Visual of the Inventor in Residence Baptistery. This shows how the space within the derelict Chain Home is utilised whilst also showing the brass sleeping pod which is suspended from the structural Glulam elements. Einstein is shown as a homage to the physicist who started his career as a patent clerk and would later have a number of patents granted. His work on the Special Theory of Relativity had a direct influence on the thesis for this project. 

The northern area of the Patent Cathedral, which is the private area for the priests and bishops. This area is build around the idea of failed ideas and using details that are used in the Seagram Building by Mies Van Der Rohe to create a cold bridge between the glazing elements and the structural element. Two ways to deal with the problem are explored. One is to create a vent with a panel at the lower windows to allow the space to be ventilated, the other is to create a brass drainage channel to redirect the condensation from the window out of the building, or in the case of the clear story windows to take the condensation down into a basin to allow for the priest/bishops to wash their hands, highlighting the delicate nature of an idea without patent protection.

At this point the paper document is transferred onto a brass plaque to highlight its new strength but also due to the unique quality of brass smelling like blood it conceptual highlights part of the inventor is stored with the new patent documents. As UV light is needed for this ritual it can only take place from May to August between the hours of 11:30 - 13:30 as this is when the sun frames the instruments needed to perform the ritual

In comparison to other spatial experiences in the scheme the scale of the space is rather small, to highlight the intimate nature of the activities within and also creating a focus on speech.

Long Site Section linking all 3 buildings and ruins together, as well as the use of a Qanat system to cool the archive spaces. The three buildings of the Patent institute are linked by a covered transitional space for pedestrians, but also for a patent tabernacle which sits in a trolley and allows for the precious patent documents to be transported to and from each building.

This surrounds the existing chain home and underpins the ruin and tanks the basement to allow for a secretive workshop to be created and the whole ruin to be explored. Large structural glulam posts create the structure which sits in between the existing building and existing blast wall and from these structural elements a sleeping pod is suspended. The entrance lobby creates a buffer zone which is not heated and due to the detailing the roof leaks which then requires a drainage channel constructed from brass to be added.

The plan of the building was abstractly taken from European Gothic Cathedrals to create an aisle and naive, a private space to the north beyond the Rood screen, a crypt in the basement (within the ruin, to store ideas which were not Patented) and confessional booths to the side (areas to meet Patent Officers). The stage above the ruin is the place where the Patent Rite of Passage Ritual takes place in the summer months. The detail for the building was heavily influenced by Mies Van Der Rohe, including the cladding of structural steel columns in brass, to the creation of a cold bridge due to the junction detail between glazing and column exploring the notion of failed ideas.

The Chapter House sits directly on top of the derelict Chain Home passing all the load onto it. As a result the foundations of the existing are underpinned. The archives are also buried underground and designed to meet the environmental archiving conditions as stated in BS5454:2012. The archives are also identical in every way apart from the mortar treatment which acts as a guide through the maze nature of the archive
