The second round was finally over. I walked back to my corner, bloody, as my boxing coach yelled at me. I have never been more exhausted than that moment. As the trainer quickly cleaned the blood off of my face, coach Braden continued to shout. He commanded, “get out there and hit ‘em! Win this for us, for you. Come on Champ.”  I looked across the ring and realized this was my time, I could win this. Just before the starting bell rang, I read an Everlast poster on the wall. It had stated “Greatness is within”.

I stood up, still exhausted, ready to fight. The third round began. My opponent came towards me swinging. He caught me with an uppercut and my nose began to bleed again. The blood poured down my face. My airways were beginning to be blocked. It became harder to breath as time went on. He had gained confidence and was on an all out offensive. I was dancing around the ring trying to catch my breathe as he was punching like a mad man. Soon after, I managed to slip three punches and throw a counter hook. This left him dazed. There was a slim opportunity to score more points. I had to push myself past my limits. Each punch took everything out of me, but i kept going. Body shot after Body shot, he began to break. I took control of the round and put him in the corner. Combos and haymakers were being thrown, he could not escape. The final bell sounded and I confidently walked to my coach, smiling.

I laid down in my corner, physically depleted. I just needed to catch my breathe. I listened to my coach as he hovered over me, “Hey champ, you definitely got this one. You did an awesome job, bud.” I zoned out of the conversation and let the trainer wipe the dried blood off of my face. It was difficult to understand the events that had happened. Everything around me was moving so quickly. Then, per usual, my coach dumped cold water on my head. I felt the last rush of adrenaline creep up my spine. Everything slowed down and i had came to my senses. My opponent and I had exchanged kind words and hugs. Then we went over to opposite corners and shook all of the coaches and trainers hands. The judges were ready to announce a winner. We both stood in the center of the ring eagerly waiting for the decision. The judges announced my name and a flood of feelings raced through my body. My coach grabbed me from behind lifting me off my feet. You could tell how proud he was. He had that grin on his face. It felt good to have a comeback win. I gave my heart into that match, and it payed off.
