RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) â Tonight, Raleigh community leaders are stepping up outreach efforts to help turn around kids caught on camera violently vandalizing homes and cars in the Lions Park neighborhood and shattering peace of mind.*** Neighbors say some 10 to 15 kids ranging in age from four to 12 years old have been throwing rocks and bricks through glass windows and doors on houses and cars for months. Owners say the damage has climbed into the tens of thousands of dollars.*** Many neighbors who didnât want to be identified say they donât want to criminalize the kids.***

When you hold someone accountable in juvenile court, you're not criminalizing them. The criminality is in throwing a brick through someone's window.
I'm not saying to throw these idiots in prison, but they need drastic intervention. At a minimum they need community service. Would like to see them pick up trash and contribute something positive to the community.

Two, related, odd criminal cases in Colorado
The Colorado Court of Appeal reversed homicide convictions in People v. Cooper, 2026 COA 44 and People v. Cichuniec, 24CA0675.
Jeremy Cooper and Peter Cichuniec were paramedics in Aurora, Colorado. When the police choked out Elijah McClain in 2019, the paramedics responded to the call for help. They injected McClain w/ 500mg of ketamine - an anesthetic - and McClain died at least in part due to the ketamine.
They were convicted of criminally negligent homicide.
â[a] person acts with criminal negligence when, through a gross deviation from the standard of care that a reasonable person would exercise, he fails to perceive a substantial and unjustifiable risk that a result will occur or that a circumstance exists.â § 18-1-501(3) (emphasis added). No statutory provision defines âstandard of careâ or âreasonable personâ for purposes of this offense.***
Before closing arguments, based on the prosecutionâs theory of culpability, Cooperâs counsel tendered a jury instruction that read, âA person acts âwith criminal negligenceâ when, through a gross deviation from the standard of care that a reasonable paramedic in Aurora, Colorado would exercise in the same circumstance, he fails to perceive a substantial and unjustifiable risk that a result will occur or that a circumstance exists.â***
The court held that the paramedics were correct and reversed the convictions, but that may not be good paramedics and other medical professionals.
The case as tried held the paramedics to the standard of an ordinary generic person. The holding of the Court of Appeals is that the paramedics are now held to a higher standard of care. A higher standard is harder to meet and easier to breach.

Freakin' shameful
A grand jury in the Middle District of Alabama has issued a superseding indictment in United States v. Southern Poverty Law Center, 26-cr-139. The charges are more appalling than the original.
Three people - F30, F31, and F32 - sought SPLC's help in leaving the KKK. Some of them sought help in removing racist tats. Instead, SPLC paid them to remain as members.
I get that they were supposed to be snitches, but simple mercy and humanity would demand that you help someone trying to leave trash like the KKK.

Jheyco Borda was working on his truck in Oxon Hill â about 10 miles outside Washington, DC â when four hooded teens approached him around 4:45 p.m. Tuesday, surveillance video posted to his Facebook page shows. âBe careful and be aware of your surroundings,â Borda warned in the caption. Karmelo's just another dirtbag killer
A witness shot down Karmelo Anthonyâs self-defense claim in bombshell testimony Saturday, claiming the accused killer provoked Austin Metcalf before their deadly encounter. Anthony apparently antagonized Metcalf during the fatal April 2025 confrontation at David Kuykendall Stadium, the 17-year-old student told the Collin County, Texas courtroom. The Frisco Memorial High School student, who went to school with Metcalf, saw the stabbing from nearby bleachers, he said when questioned by a prosecutor. Despite Anthonyâs claim that he whipped out a weapon to protect himself while being ambushed by Metcalf and his brother Hunter, the witness said he didnât see anyone crowding around the alleged murderer.*** âDo you remember in your written statement saying Austin put his hand on [Anthonyâs] shoulder to intimidate?â Shook asked.
âYes,â the student replied, per CBS. âMore of a warning. Actions speak louder than words.â Other witnesses, including one who knew Anthony, echoed the belief that the suspect was the aggressor. They recalled Anthony keeping his hands hidden in his backpack until Metcalf shoved his shoulders to try to get Anthony out of their tent â then described the alleged killer pulling out a knife and stabbing the victim.  Anthony âtried to provoke usâ when he was told to leave the tent, a 15-year-old witness claimed, adding Anthony got âirritated.â*** The Memorial team *** told Anthony, a stranger, to leave â but he allegedly refused and became aggressive, the witness claimed. âFâk yâall,â Anthony allegedly started saying, the student said, according to Fox 4. Anthony wasnât yelling, he said under cross examination. âFâk yâall. Iâm not going to leave. Yâall are a bunch of pâsies. Yâall not going to do anything. Actor James Handy, known for roles in films including "Top Gun: Maverick," "The Rocketeer" and "Jumanji," has been identified as the victim of a fatal stabbing in Los Angeles, police said. The Los Angeles Police Department said officers responded Wednesday to a report of "unknown trouble" in the Tarzana neighborhood of the city and found Handy in the front yard of a residence suffering from a stab wound to the chest. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Los Angeles Police Department on Thursday identified the victim as the 81-year-old actor. According to the LAPD, the suspect called emergency services and said, "I am the son of man, I just killed the man of sin." Investigators allege that 44-year-old Michael Gledhill, the son of Handy's girlfriend, stabbed the actor, though authorities have not revealed any motive behind the alleged stabbing.***

Nick Reiner, who is accused of killing his father, legendary film director Rob Reiner, and his mother, is seeking unpaid money from a trust his parents established for him, saying he needs it to help in his defense. The 32-year-old's civil attorneys filed a petition in a Los Angeles County court on Monday saying trustees overseeing the funds have denied them without legal justification, and he needs and should get them now. "Nick loved his parents, and he is devastated by their deaths. But the facts about what did and did not happen to them are not at issue in this Trust litigation," the petition says. "Like anyone accused of a crime, Nick is presumed innocent, and he is entitled to mount his defense with the resources that are lawfully his own." Authorities later told Rogers that a warrant was issued for her arrest after she posted a video on Instagram that contrasted her peaceful sidewalk-counseling efforts with the violent realities of abortion, Life Legal said.*** However, a jury could not reach a unanimous decision in the case June 5, with Life Legal reporting that âa substantial majority of jurors rejected the prosecutionâs theory of the case.â Alexandra Snyder, Life Legal Foundation CEO, stated in a release that the prosecution should never have occurred, adding, âAfter nearly two weeks of trial, not only did the State fail to convince the jury that she [Rogers] committed a crime, but ten San Francisco jurors voted to find her not guilty.â Snyder stated that the mistrial is a wake-up call for Americans regarding free speech and other constitutionally protected rights.***

The Tank Man, Tiananmen Square in 1989.
a 1 June meeting among the CCP's leadership decided to clear the square.[15][13][14] Chinese troops advanced into central parts of Beijing through the city's major highways in the early morning hours of 4 June, and engaged in bloody clashes with demonstrators attempting to block them, in which many people â demonstrators, bystanders, and soldiers â were killed or injured. The vast majority of killings were clustered in Beijing's western suburbs along the Chang'an Avenue. Estimates of the death toll vary from several hundreds to the low thousands, with thousands more wounded.[16][17][18][19][20][21] On June 5, after military forces secured the Square, an unidentified individual, later referred to as "Tank Man" temporarily halted a column of tanks. The image depicting the event became one of the most iconic and widely recognized images of all time and remains censored in China.[22][23][24]

You didn't ask for any receipt for $40M???? May 28 (UPI) -- A former CIA agent is accused of stealing nearly $40 million worth of gold bars and about $2 million in cash from the agency, and lying to the agency about his education, military history and pilot license. The FBI seized the gold from the home along with about $2 million in cash and 35 luxury watches, many of which were Rolexes. From November 2025 and March 2026, Rush requested and received "a significant quantity of foreign currency and tens of millions of dollars in gold bars for work-related expenses," the affidavit said. âź Canadaâs legal assisted suicide program, Medical Aid in Dying (MAID), now has its own poster boy: Dr. James MacLean. Two of MacLeanâs 2024 cases have come under scrutiny following public complaints. In one, MacLean signed off on the death of a 45-year-old man with Crohnâs disease. Crohnâs, which involves inflammation of the bowels, is chronic and frequently painful. But it is a far cry from the kinds of immediate end-of-life situations MAID was billed to address; many people live with it for years and years. In the second case, MacLean tried and failed to kill a 67-year-old cancer patient who had previously consented to MAID. He gave him a powerful sedative and pronounced him dead when his heart stopped, then left before his breathing resumed. MacLean received a âcautionâ and an order that his practice be better supervised for six months. He canât be taken off his rounds, after all: Those Canadians wonât just kill themselves.

This comes after each state refused to rescind their unconstitutional policies in response to a prompt letter from the Department explaining the policiesâ illegality. Not only are these policies unconstitutional, but, as alleged in the complaint, these policies threaten the operational effectiveness and safety of federal agents who have faced a wave of targeted harassment. If federal agents cannot use confidential plates, dangerous individuals can track and evade law enforcement. Buffer zones
New York legislators Tuesday approved a sweeping buffer zone measure as part of the state budget, in a measure that would establish criminal penalties for violations. The legislation, proposed by Gov. Kathy Hochul and negotiated with the Democratic-led majorities in the state legislature, establishes a 50-foot security buffer around houses or worship and educational centers in response to or anticipation of a planned protest outside its premises. The bill would make it a class B misdemeanor â a low-level criminal offense â when a protester âknowingly or intentionally engages in a course of conduct that places that individual in reasonable fear for their safety.â The measure defines a place of religious worship broadly, covering not only sanctuaries but also community centers and schools being used for services, education and religious observance. And it gives police the authority to establish a security perimeter beyond 50 feet, within which demonstrations are not allowed, when anticipating large protests or clashes.*** Civil liberties advocates and progressive groups had raised concerns about broad restrictions on protest activity. Mamdani, a strident Israel critic who faces scrutiny from mainstream Jewish organizations over his response to antisemitism and pro-Palestinian protests, vetoed a similar bill that applied to schools and educational institutions.***

Their supplemental brief notes
Petitionersâ lives were destroyed and their long-tenured employment stripped from them by their Respondent employers who refused to engage in any interactive process with their employees required by Title VII. And the reason they would not even âconsiderâ their requests for exemption from the COVID-19 shots and a reasonable religious accommodation is because the Mandate forbade them under penalty of fines and loss of their business licenses. Even a remote worker who had an exemption and accommodation from all vaccines and an exemption from the COVID-19 vaccine had his exemption and accommodation rescinded because religious exemptions could not be âconsidered.â***

Murdered a grandma
25-year-old John Elijah Matthews stabbed and killed Swan on a train at the Oakland City station. Swan was stabbed 18 to 20 times, and her throat was cut during the attack, according to her daughter, Shanae Sams. The incident happened Saturday night, marking the second stabbing on the transit system within a two-week period. Sams said her mother used the transit system frequently without previous problems and was simply minding her own business when she was attacked for no reason.***
Security footage shows Swan sitting alone inside MARTA train car 134 around 11:25 a.m. on Saturday, according to an arrest warrant. The warrant states Matthews walked up to stand near her right side, pulled a knife out of his front pants pocket, grabbed Swan by her head, and cut her throat. Swan screamed and attempted to rise from her seat before Matthews grabbed her right arm and stabbed her roughly 18 to 20 times in an unprovoked attack. Matthews then threw Swan to the floor and stood beside her until the northbound train pulled into the Oakland City Station at approximately 11:27 a.m. After the train stopped, Matthews walked out of the train car onto the north end of the station platform holding the knife in his right hand. ***

Other passengers looked on but no one helped the grandmother as she bled out on the floor of the train. Emergency responders attempted to save Swanâs life, but she died at the scene from massive blood loss.*** Atlanta resident Shanae Sams said MARTAâs temporary free ride policy (for the upcoming World Cup) allows everyone to ride for free with little to no security in the MARTA stations. âTo me, itâs negligence with the security and the patrolling,â Sams told The New York Post Monday. She noted that renovations on the MARTA transit system means free rides for commuters.***

His father in law was only 11 years older?
Aaron White, 33, was indicted in January on murder and aggravated assault charges in connection with the 2024 shooting of Jason Maughon, 44. Officials said that White shot and killed his new wife Kailagh White's stepfather just hours after they got married in Butts County. White has maintained his innocence since the shooting and insisted that he acted in self-defense. The charges against White were dismissed on Wednesday after prosecutors agreed they lacked sufficient evidence to prove the case.***
In 2025, a grand jury found White acted in self-defense, but then-Towaliga District Attorney Jonathan Adams chose to take the case to a grand jury for a second time in January. Adams stepped down from the DA's office in February, and he won the election for Towaliga Circuit Superior Court Judge in May. In March, a judge disqualified the Towalgia DA's office from the case, citing forensic misconduct, and the Henry County DA's office took over for the prosecution. Butts County Sheriff Gary Long said the dispute began when Kailagh confronted a drunk guest after the ceremony and asked them to leave. White tried to intervene, but Maughon allegedly punched him in the face, knocking him to the ground. ***
Minutes later, Maughon and the drunk relative returned in separate cars and the unnamed relative fired a gun, hitting White in the hand while Maughon charged at him, reported WSB-TV. White fled to his truck to grab his own weapon and began firing shots. 'I defended myself and everybody else,' he said.***

Bakersfield hostage crisis
The bank robber who strapped a bomb to himself and held 10 hostages for up to 15 hours inside a Bakersfield, Calif., bank before authorities shot him dead has been identified as a US Army veteran and sex offender. Police named the suspect as 41-year-old Anthony Scott Searles-Harris, who was dishonorably discharged for going AWOL on duty. He is also a registered sex offender who was charged with sex acts with a child under 14 in 2014, police said.*** âItâs a bad day to be at the bank,â he said, according to a witness who spoke to KGET. His reason for committing the act remains unclear. During hostage negotiations, he spoke with police about food and water, as well as certain materials he wanted to see concerning his court case, authorities said. He said that he was frustrated with âcertain elementsâ of his case, police said.*** Searles-Harris has a long rap sheet, including two convictions for criminal sex acts in 2014. He was convicted of lewd or lascivious acts with a child under 14 years of age and oral copulation with a minor under 14 years of age and more than a 10-year age difference between offender and the victim. Another man allegedly paid Searles-Harris $200 in 2014 to have two girls, aged 13 and 17, perform oral sex on him, according to reports. Searles-Harris allegedly hosted underage girls at parties at his Oildale home, giving them alcohol and drugs and coercing them into sex acts.***

A Detroit priest tackled and detained a suspected car thief until police arrived after a car crash outside a historic church on June 1. Father Canon Jean-Baptiste Commins of the Institute of Christ the King Sovereign Priest said he was in the parking lot of St. Joseph Shrine on June 1 when he heard tires screech and a loud crash. He ran toward the scene and saw a young man fleeing, according to FOX2 Detroit. "I grabbed him [and] put him down,â said Father Commins told the outlet. âHe was resisting a lot, trying to run away, definitely, and so I had to unfortunately give him a few punches and hurt my hand a little bit.â Father Commins said bystanders urged him to stop the man. The priest tackled the suspect and, with the help of another church member, held him until police arrived.*** An 18-year-old was arrested, and three other people were detained, police said. Investigators believe the vehicle involved in the crash had been stolen. According to police, officers attempted to stop the vehicle before it crashed into another car. A woman in the other vehicle suffered injuries that were not considered life-threatening.***

CJ court watch - 3 cases
Supreme Court decided three criminal law cases today, 28may26:
Rutherford v. United States
Fernandez v. United States
Pitchford v. Cain
Rutherford & Fernandez considered compassionate release under 18 U. S. C. §3582 and what qualified as âextraordinary and compelling reasons warrant such a reduction.â
Daniel Rutherford, petitioner in one of these consolidated cases, committed two separate robberies at gunpoint in 2003. A jury convicted him of several crimes, including two counts of using and carrying a firearm during a crime of violence, in violation of §924(c).
Years later, Congress amended the law to greatly reduce the sentence for such crimes. That amendment did not qualify as an extraordinary and compelling reason to warrant such a reduction in his sentence.
Fernandez was indicted in 2013 for his role in the assassination of two gang members. The prosecutionâs theory was that members of a drug ring had paid Fernandez $40,000 to act as the backup shooter. When the primary shooterâs gun jammed, Fernandez stepped in. He fired 14 rounds, killing both victims. Fernandezâs cousin and alleged co-conspirator, Patrick Darge, testified against him at trial. To discredit Darge, Fernandezâs counsel argued that Darge was framing Fernandez to protect the real second shooter, Dargeâs brother. Unconvinced, the jury convicted Fernandez of murder for hire and a firearms offense. See 18 U. S. C. §§924(j), 1958. The District Court then imposed two consecutive life sentences.
Fernandez filed an unsuccessful appeal, and then two indirect appeals under 28 U. S. C. §2255. After the second, the district judge basically told him to ask for compassionate release based on a second shooter theory. Fernandez asked for it, the judge granted it, and the government appealed.
Supreme Court said that "extraordinary and compelling reasonsâ means something like terminal illness, a permanent physical or medical condition, the death or incapacitation of the defendantâs only family members capable of caring for the defendantâs minor child, or other such personal situations.

In 2004, two black teenagers, Terry Pitchford and Eric Bullins, robbed a grocery store near Grenada, Mississippiâa small town in Grenada County off Iâ55 in north-central Mississippi. Grenada County was then about 60 percent white and 40 percent black. At the time of the robbery in 2004, Bullins was 16, and Pitchford was 18. During the robbery, Bullins fired three shots at the store owner, who was a white man, and killed him. *** Bullins, who fired the fatal shots, reached a plea agreement and received a 20-year sentence for the homicide. *** Pitchford also fired a gun, which was loaded with rat shot. It has been disputed whether he shot at the store owner or fired his gun into the store floor. *** In any event, for Pitchford, the State charged capital murder and sought the death penalty. During jury selection at Pitchfordâs trial in Mississippi state court, the prosecutor used peremptory strikes against four of the five black potential jurors. In response, Pitchfordâs counsel raised a Batson objection. *** The trial court asked the prosecutor for race-neutral reasons for striking each of the four black potential jurors. According to the prosecutor, one had returned 15 minutes late to court, two others had brothers convicted of violent offenses, and the fourth, like Pitchford, was young, unmarried, and a father. *** As the prosecutor offered reasons for striking each of the jurors, the trial court declared each to be race neutral. Upon hearing the prosecutorâs reason for the last strike, the trial court stated that â[t]he Court finds that to be race neutral as well,â and
per Batson v. Kentucky, 476 U. S. 79 (1986), at that point the trial judge was supposed to ask "Defense Counsel, what is your response?"
For the last 20-plus years while in prison, Pitchford has pursued appellate and collateral challenges to his conviction and death sentence. In his direct appeal to the Mississippi Supreme Court, Pitchford renewed his Batson argumentâin particular, that the prosecutorâs purported race-neutral reasons for striking the four black prospective jurors were pretextual. In a divided opinion, the Mississippi Supreme Court concluded that Pitchford had waived his Batson objection by not arguing to the trial court that the prosecutorâs proffered explanations were pretextual.***
Supreme Court ruled "that the Mississippi Supreme Court unreasonably applied the clearly established Batson precedents and unreasonably determined that Pitchford waived his opportunity to rebut the prosecutorâs asserted race-neutral reasons for the peremptory strikes of four black prospective jurors," and reversed the conviction and sentence.

Mosque murderers manifesto
The teenage San Diego mosque gunmen appear to have left behind a shocking, hate-filled manifesto, which praised Adolf Hitler and a slew of mass murderers, before the attack, The California Post has learned. Authorities are investigating whether 17-year-old Cain Clark and 18-year-old Caleb Vazquez wrote the nihilistic missive before killing three people and then each other, according to law enforcement sources. The document expresses a desire to spark a race war and bring about the end of civilization.*** The opinions therein are a nonsensical collection of anti-Trump, anti-liberal, antisemitic, homophobic and misogynistic bile â tied together only by the authorsâ fury that they were not given more in life. Sources said investigators have a copy of the purported manifesto and believe it to be authentic.*** The unhinged dispatch contains scattershot derogatory and racist views targeting a number of groups â including Muslims, Jews, and gay people, among others, describing himself as an âaccelerationistâ who hoped to instigate an âall-out race warâ to bring about the collapse of society. In Vazquezâs portion, he lamented being short, which he said caused him great pain and humiliation.***

Hermanos al Rescale (Brothers to the Rescue, Inc. ("BTTR") was an organization in Miami, Florida that flew unarmed Cessna aircraft to rescue or guide Cuban migrants stranded or lost at sea. In the I 990s, BTIR's flights also flew to support anti-Castro, pro-democracy movements in Cuba.*** On February 24,1996, three BTTR aircraft flew from South Florida toward Cuba, and Cuban MiGs shot down two of them in international waters, killing four United States nationals, including three American citizens.***
Count 1 charges Conspiracy to Kill U.S. Nationals

Crazy Jersey case
A grand jury in the District of New Jersey returned a superseding indictment yesterday charging Treva Edwards, 61, Orange, New Jersey, with two counts of sex trafficking by force, fraud, or coercion, three counts of forced labor, and conspiracy to commit forced labor. The superseding indictment also charged his wife, Christine Edwards, 64, also of Orange, with conspiracy to commit forced labor. According to the superseding indictment, Treva and Christine Edwards were the founders and pastors of a church they named âJesus is Lord by the Holy Ghost,â which they operated out of a multi-unit apartment building in Orange, where they conspired with each other and others to obtain the compelled labor of church members.***
The church sought out and exploited vulnerable women.
The Edwardses secured labor contracts to provide manual labor in and around Orange, including cleaning and gutting commercial and residential properties, shoveling snow, removing bulk trash, moving furniture, cleaning raw sewage, and exterminating rodent infestations. The Edwards couple dispatched the victims to perform the contracted labor. They did not pay wages to the victims for their work and kept the money earned from their labor. Treva Edwards preached to the victims that he communicated Godâs will, that it was Godâs will for them to work, and that members had to perform labor to serve God. The defendants convinced the victims that they would lose favor with God and âthe Prophetâ if they did not perform the prescribed labor. Treva Edwards spread fear among the victims through verbal and emotional abuse and threats of reputational harm, homelessness, hunger, spiritual retribution, punishments, and additional hard labor to gain their obedience and compel them to perform unpaid labor. *** According to the allegations in the superseding indictment, Treva Edwards controlled and subjected two victims to repeated physical and sexual assaults, impregnating one victim and instructing her to get an abortion, and telling the other victim that having sex with him was Godâs will and would prevent her from becoming mentally ill.***

ISIS turd from Detroit area
A Michigan man was sentenced today to 20 years in prison after having been convicted by a jury last year on two charges of attempting to provide material support to the Islamic State of Iraq and al-Sham, commonly known as ISIS, a designated foreign terrorist organization, and for being a felon in possession of a destructive device**** Aws Mohammed Naser, 38, formerly of Westland, Michigan, was convicted last year following a five-week trial. The jury unanimously found that Naser twice attempted to provide material support to ISIS, in the form of personnel (including himself) and services, knowing that ISIS was a designated terrorist organization, and that ISIS engages in terrorism. In addition, Naser was found guilty of being a felon in possession of a destructive device. ***
He traveled to Iraq in 2012. He tried other times to travel there.
Naser booked a flight departing the United States and arrived at Detroit Metropolitan Airport with luggage that contained a rifle scope, cane sword, and a four-inch tactical knife. Naserâs attempt to join was thwarted when he was not allowed to board the plane. Undeterred, Naser purchased another one-way plane ticket, this time departing from Chicago OâHare Airport bound for Beirut, Lebanon, in January 2013. Hours before his scheduled flight to Lebanon, Naser robbed a gas station. After the robbery, Naser took a bus to Chicago and attempted to board his flight to Lebanon with $2,000 in cash but was again denied boarding and returned to Michigan. Naser was later charged and convicted of armed robbery and served a three-year prison sentence. Naser was released from prison and placed on parole supervision in 2016. Unable to travel to join ISIS, Naser renewed his oath to ISIS and focused his attention on how to support ISIS in the United States. Naser surreptitiously created social media accounts and joined invitation-only ISIS supportersâ chatrooms, groups, and private rooms where he obtained and viewed official ISIS media reports, publications, and other jihadi propaganda. Naser considered himself a âSon of the Islamic State,â and a âSolider of the Caliphate.â He solicited and obtained information on explosives from other ISIS supporters, received training from a bomb-maker, experimented with manufacturing explosives, and operated drones. He also downloaded a video that provided step-by-step instructions on the manufacture of an improvised explosive device (IED) using triacetone triperoxide (TATP), known as âThe Mother of Satan.â In October 2017, the FBI searched Naserâs home and vehicle. In Naserâs basement, the FBI found a bomb-making lab and multiple drones, tools, and drone parts. In the lab, they recovered a ready-to-assemble destructive device which included precursor chemicals and components needed to make a TATP-based IED.***

A registered sex offender recidivated again? Say it aint so....
Also, mugshot of the week.
OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) - An Omaha man who has been a registered sex offender since 1987 was arrested [24apr26] after police said he broke into a home, got naked, entered a sleeping childâs room, and pinned the child down. Lavern Scott, 65, appeared in court Monday and is charged with attempted class 2 felony, burglary, and failure to register as a sex offender after previous violations.*** Police met with residents who said a man, later identified as Scott, had entered the home through an unlocked front door and then took off his clothes before entering a sleeping childâs room. âThe suspect then got into bedâ with the child, who woke up and began screaming for a family member. âThe suspect pinned the child to the bed and set his legs in, using his feet as hooks to hold the child in place,â the report reads. A family member entered the room and found Scott standing at the foot of the bed with a bottle of water and a bottle of lotion. They âescortedâ Scott out of the home and locked the door.
When the family member went to bring Scottâs clothes out of the apartment, Scott had left the scene, according to police. One block west, police received calls from residents of an Airbnb that Scott had entered the home, claiming it was his. The residents also âremovedâ Scott from the building. Scott was later found by police at a nearby street corner wearing only socks. On March 30, 1987, Scott, according to a sex offender violation report, âAKA Cookie MONSTER AKA Cookie Xâ was convicted of 1st-degree sexual assault in Douglas County and later convicted in 1999 of attempted 1st-degree sexual assault in Madison County. Scott has been convicted and sentenced for violating the registry in 2017, 2018, 2022, and 2024. As of Friday, he had 2,777 days of noncompliance. Judy Walcott said she had been a member of Planet Fitness for more than a decade. On April 11, she said she was getting ready to use the bathroom in the women's locker room when she saw a man hanging up belongings outside a shower. "He gave me goosebumps," Walcott said. "I went to the front desk. I said, 'There's somebody there who's really creepy, and it's freaking me out.' And it was just a kid, you know, I think he was new even, and he just said, 'There's nothing I can do about it.'" Walcott said no employee checked on the situation after she reported it. A few days later, when she raised the concern again with another employee, Walcott said she was called transphobic. "She just kept calling me transphobic," Walcott said. "Told me I should quit if I didn't like it. Pointed to the door. So I just walked away. And it was a few hours later that the assistant manager in Concord called me and canceled me. CHICAGO (WLS) -- Five Chicago police officers were struck by a driver while dispersing a "teen takeover" early Sunday, officials said. At this point, it's not clear whether the driver that hit the officers was connected to the teen gathering, which Alderman Jason Ervin said was not a traditional "teen-takeover" type event like has been seen elsewhere around the city, but rather an after-prom party that got out of hand. Seattle shooting gallery
SEATTLE - Neighbors living near Aurora Avenue are on edge after a weekend shooting marked the latest incident in a wave of persistent gun violence and criminal activity gripping the area. Residents say the sound of gunfire has become a regular occurrence, with multiple shootings reported in the vicinity over the last few weeks. The latest escalation occurred around 4 a.m. Saturday near Aurora Avenue North and North 98th Street. Seattle Police responded to the scene after neighbors reported hearing more than 30 gunshots.*** Upon arrival, officers discovered a chaotic scene with 20 shell casings on the west side of Aurora Avenue and another 20 on the east side. The gunfire damaged at least one vehicle and multiple buildings. Residents report that stray bullets are routinely striking parked cars and flying directly into homes.*** What they're saying: According to local community members, the severe spike in violence is directly tied to illicit activity spilling off the main thoroughfare and onto residential streets. "We have nightly prostitution, we have the gun violence that is coming along with it," a resident said, noting that a revolving door of pimps and johns regularly circles the neighborhood.***
Frustrated by the perceived lack of city response, some community members took matters into their own hands by erecting makeshift barriers. Can we just shoot him in the face?
An American journalist and political commentator who has lived in China for more than a decade is facing a criminal charge in the U.S. of acting as an agent for the Chinese government. Thomas Pauken II allegedly prepared confidential reports that his Chinese handler told him were being conveyed to Chinese President Xi Jinping, according to an affidavit FBI Special Agent Timothy Healy submitted in federal court. Pauken also took a lie detector test at the request of his Chinese contact and provided a cell phone and laptop to another individual in the U.S. who was seeking a job in the Trump administration, Healy wrote. Pauken said he consistently rebuffed his handlerâs requests for classified information, but told the FBI that he thought there was an 80 percent chance that the other individual he was helping to put his handler in contact with would provide classified information to China, despite what Pauken said were his warnings not to do so, the affidavit says.*** Pauken was arrested by the FBI in February and has been in custody since. In March, a federal magistrate judge in Alexandria, Virginia, denied Paukenâs bid for pretrial release, court records show.
U.S. District Judge Leonie Brinkema has set a âpre-indictment plea hearingâ Friday for Pauken. Such a hearing usually signals a defendantâs plan to offer a guilty plea to some charge or charges, typically in an agreement with prosecutors. Prosecutors told the court last month that theyâd had âproductive discussionsâ with Paukenâs counsel about a resolution of the case.*** When Pauken returned to the U.S. from China in February, the FBI âsimultaneously monitoredâ a meeting Pauken had at a Washington hotel with the individual heâd delivered the cell phone and laptop to last year. During that meeting, Pauken gave the person a SIM card and offered him a $10,000 bonus to work with Paukenâs Chinese handler, providing âone report per weekâ that âwould influence policy and be read by Xi Jinping.â Shortly after that meeting, Pauken was arrested.*** Pauken is also a son of GOP politician Tom Pauken, who served in the Reagan administration before chairing the Texas Republican Party from 1994 to 1997. *** the younger Pauken used the pseudonym at his fatherâs request because his father did not want to be tied to his sonâs activities in China, which included work for several major state-controlled media outlets, including China Radio International, China Central Television, China Global Television Network and Xinhua. The document says the junior Pauken told the FBI that âall his Chinese associates were obsessed with attaining informationâ on his father.

Chiraq: where the criminals walk free and the shampoo is behind bars
Walgreens is shuttering a location in Chicago, upsetting residents, and stirring fury among exploitative and complicit politicians. The way some local âleadersâ tell it, the drugstore chain is acting greedily, selfishly, or even criminally. âWalgreens should be charged with first-degree corporate abandonment,â thundered a local alderman. âIt should be a crime, the way theyâre treating our elders. Hm, why would they close a store in the City of Broad Shoulders?
Earlier this week, Walgreens announced the closing of the store, which has served the Chatham community for more than 20 years, creating what many residents call a "prescription desert" and a continued disinvestment in the Black community. On Saturday, the Walgreens executives revealed the store lost more than a million dollars last year, partly due to declining prescription sales but also a massive amount of store theft. "Theft at this store is 16%," Johnson said. "That's four times above the company average." And the company explained that they tried to stop theft. "Lock boxes help us protect the merchandise in the store. A lot of the time, those lock boxes were getting destroyed. And that's at a great cost to the company," said Jason Vasquez, Walgreens District Manager. They say Walgreens was spending $400,000 a year on security guards in the store, but there were still attacks on store employees. "We've had people jump across the counters, because we sell liquor behind the counter, taking liquor, cigarettes... That wears. That wears down. Not so much the financial piece but the endurance of that day in and day out," said Lonnie Fuqua, the store's manager.***

California's desperate race to the bottom
Under Governor Gavin Newsom, California has sought to transform its massive prison system into a Nordic-style rehabilitation program. Newsom has placed a moratorium on all executions, transferred condemned prisoners to facilities across the state, dismantled San Quentin State Prisonâs death row, and turned the notorious prison into a therapeutic center, with art, classrooms, a cafĂŠ, and podcast studios. As part of this transformation, the Newsom administration approved a $189 million contract to provide new digital tabletsâgeneric, flat-screen devices in a plastic shellâto every inmate in the state prison system, at âno costâ to offenders. The administration heralded the effort to replace inmatesâ old tabletsâwhich were piloted in 2018 and given to nearly all prisoners by 2023âas a step toward âdigital equityâ for âjustice impactedâ individuals, who could, in theory, use the devices to contact their families, consume âeducationalâ content, and âlearn new technology.â***  we contacted dozens of death-row inmates, who told us that prisoners in the state system use such devices to watch pornography and have explicit sexual conversations. Some prisoners, according to a former high-ranking California corrections official, use their tablets to groom minors. Though the state has claimed to regulate explicit content, the inmates told us that users can easily evade detection.*** In the 1980s, a rapist and serial murderer named Robert Maury earned the nickname âthe Tipster Killerâ for calling in anonymous tips identifying the locations of the dead bodies he left behind. During this period, he killed a woman by strangling her with a nylon clothesline, strangled and killed another two women, and brutally raped a fourth before he was caught by authorities. Now, Maury is living at a state prison facility in Stockton, California, where he has viewed pornography on his taxpayer-funded digital tablet. In an interview, Maury told us inmates can receive ânude picturesâ and watch pornography through their devices. In his case, he claimed to have received a topless photo from a 22-year-old German psychology student who was âhoping that I would share my story with her for her class project.â After the student sent the photo, Maury said he âflirtedâ with her âfor a while.â*** Nathaniel Ray Diaz, who was convicted of committing sex crimes against a 12-year-old girl, allegedly used a prison-issued tablet to contact and exploit her from inside Avenal State Prison. Diaz allegedly told the girl to send him sexually explicit images, which he received through a co-conspirator. The girl reportedly told investigators that Diaz forced her to speak with him through the tablet âfor hours, every day,â from the time she came home from school until the prison phones turned off at midnight. Prosecutors alleged that, in total, Diaz made âthousands of callsâ to the girl, violating a no-contact order andâby soliciting explicit photographs and exploiting a minorâcommitting additional child sex crimes. ***

The confrontation led to a shooting outside the Montgomery County Courthouse in Clarksville, Tennessee, the district attorney general for the 19th Judicial District said.*** The judge set his bond at $1.25 million and said the steep price tag was due to the severity of the charges and the proximity to the courthouse. Even flaming dirtbags deserve a fair trial
NEW YORK (AP) â Jurors deadlocked in Harvey Weinstein âs rape retrial Friday, forcing another mistrial in a #MeToo-era case that has gone to trial three times so far. While the former Hollywood mogul has been convicted of other sex crimes on two U.S. coasts and remains behind bars, the mistrial leaves the New York rape charge in limbo. Prosecutors were pondering whether to try the case a fourth time, after some jurors said outside court that nine out of 12 wanted to acquit Weinstein.*** The majority-male Manhattan jury weighed whether Weinstein raped Jessica Mann, a hairstylist and actor. Weinsteinâs lawyers argued that the encounter was consensual. It happened in 2013 during a fraught relationship between the then-married Weinstein and the decades-younger Mann. Deliberations began Wednesday. On Friday, after the jury sent two notes in 90 minutes saying it was stuck, Judge Curtis Farber declared a mistrial. What stood out to jurors Some jurors said they were struck by gaps in what Mann recalled, particularly when defense lawyers were questioning her. âThe prevailing thought was that the witness had a lot of inconsistencies in her story,â said juror Josh Hadar, 57. He favored acquittal: âI donât come to that easily, but it just seemed that there was enough reasonable doubt.â Another juror, Sarae Perez, 25, noted that she studied feminism and is well versed in #MeToo, but she also couldnât overcome uncertainties about Mannâs account. âThere were places where we couldnât trust her word for it,â she said.***

Emblem of our criminal justice problem
A 15-year-old girl who was sexually assaulted after being lured from a bus stop in Seattleâs Northgate neighborhood is now âforever scarred,â according to an emotional statement from her family read in court Wednesday morning. The suspect, identified as Joshua Kowalczewski, pleaded not guilty to charges of rape and kidnapping during his first court appearance. A judge also ordered media outlets not to show the suspectâs face in court because of potential identification issues that could come up during the trial. Prosecutors say Kowalczewski has nine active warrants for his arrest and several pending criminal cases in multiple cities, including Puyallup, Olympia, Edmonds, and Seattle.*** the girl was waiting at a bus stop in Northgate on her way to school the morning of May 4 when investigators say she was lured into a wooded area and sexually assaulted.
The victim, who has a learning disability, later told police, âI was afraid something was going to happen if I didnât do what he said.â Investigators say a nearby construction worker became suspicious after seeing the pair walk into the woods and went to check on them. The worker called 911 after hearing the victim scream and seeing her emerge from the wooded area âcrying and looking terrified.â Police later arrested Kowalczewski after Seattle firefighters treating the victim recognized him as matching the suspect description. Investigators say firefighters were trying to stop him as he was lighting a fire near Aurora Avenue North and North 109th Street. Court records show Kowalczewskiâs criminal history includes 28 arrests and 13 convictions for crimes including assault, DUI, violating a protection order, and criminal trespass. Prosecutors also noted one of his active warrants stems from a domestic violence assault case filed just three days before the alleged attack on the teenage girl.

Santa Clara County Superior Court Judge Kelley Paul orders DA to wear a yellow Star of David
12 knuckleheads broke into and vandalized the Stanford University presidentâs office in June 2024.
Once inside, the protesters barricaded doors with wires, stacked furniture to block entrances and hung up banners in support of Palestine and Dr. Adnan Al-Bursh, who was killed by Israeli forces. They also allegedly covered security cameras with tissue and foil paper. ***At some point, some protesters spilled fake blood made from corn syrup on office floors and furniture. *** *** police estimated that the group caused $300,000 in damage. Carpet stains, a bent door bar, broken doorframes and an assessment of an antique grandfather clock with drops of blood on it contributed to those costs.Â
Seven chuckleheads took plea deals, five went to trial, and the first trial ended in a mistrial. On 7ma26, J. Paul disqualified District Attorney Jeff Rosen from prosecuting the case due to a conflict of interest.
The alleged conflict arises from Rosen raising funds based on his prosecution of this case.
The Stanford lawsuit is ânot a hate-crime case,â and should not be characterized as a fight against antisemitism, Paul said.Â

Robinson's jerk lawyers work to censor truth
Lawyers for the man accused of killing Charlie Kirk were in court Tuesday, making their case to bar reporters and the public from parts of a key upcoming hearing and seal some evidence after the judge rejected their request to ban news cameras from the courtroom. Tyler Robinson's defense has argued that broadcasts of the proceedings create a media frenzy that often misrepresent him and could bias potential jurors. They hope to restrict access to parts of his preliminary hearing, scheduled for July 6-10, when prosecutors must show they have enough evidence to warrant a trial.*** The defense began Tuesday by urging the judge to punish prosecutors for comments that one of them, Christopher Ballard, made outside of court. Richard Novak, an attorney for Robinson, said Ballard essentially went on a âmedia tourâ in which he made âexpressions of opinion as to Mr. Robinsonâs guilt.â Prosecutors responded that Ballard had a right to speak to news outlets to correct misinformation about an inconclusive, preliminary finding by ballistics experts, which led to speculation about Robinsonâs possible exoneration. âHere he was representing the true nature of that report" and did not make a statement of opinion about guilt, Deputy Utah County Attorney Ryan McBride said.*** Prosecutors have said Robinson left a note for his romantic partner hidden under a keyboard that said, âI had the opportunity to take out Charlie Kirk and Iâm going to take it.â They have also said he wrote in a text message about Kirk: âI had enough of his hatred. Some hate canât be negotiated out.â Authorities have said DNA consistent with Robinsonâs was found on the trigger of the rifle used to kill Kirk, the fired cartridge casing, two unfired cartridges and a towel used to wrap the rifle.***

Dozens of workers from multiple cruise ships that docked in San Diego, including one from the Disney Cruise Line, were found to be in possession of or involved with the distribution of child pornography, according to authorities. Officers with U.S. Customs and Border Protection boarded eight cruise ships between April 23 and April 27 and interviewed 28 workers as part of an ongoing investigation, federal officials said in a statement. National Review notes
âź Baltimore recorded just four homicides in April, the lowest number since tracking began in 1970. This comes amid a broader decline of violence and criminality in the city. Homicides fell 61 percent between 2015 and 2025. Robberies decreased by 46 percent in the same time period after reaching a peak in 2017. As weâve seen in other blue cities, dumping soft-on-crime prosecutorsâin Baltimoreâs case, Marilyn Mosbyâand putting criminals behind bars gets results. In 2022, Baltimore initiated its âGroup Violence Reduction Strategyâ in collaboration with the stateâs attorney generalâs office. This program focuses on removing the worst repeat violent offenders from the streets and directing resources toward those most at risk of gun violence. This approach has not only proven effective; it has won support and cooperation from the communities most affected. Mayor Brandon Scott also deserves credit for reducing the number of vacant houses from 16,000 to fewer than 12,000 since his election. It all goes to show that progressive jurisdictions neednât tolerate high levels of crime, if they are willing to jettison self-defeating permissiveness and lock up criminals.

The deranged firebug accused of igniting the devastating Palisades Fire had become âfixatedâ on Luigi Mangione in the lead-up to the deadly blaze â and then allegedly suggested the inferno was started out of âresentment of the rich,â prosecutors said. Jonathan Rinderknecht, 30, was obsessed with the accused health care CEO killer and had routinely searched âfree Luigi Mangioneâ and âlets take down all the billionairesâ online, court documents show. In the weeks and hours before allegedly sparking the blaze that triggered the catastrophic Palisades Fire, Rinderknecht â who worked as an Uber driver â ranted to customers about Mangioneâs arrest, too. âMany of defendantâs Uber passengers on December 31, 2024 and January 1, 2025, described defendant as angry, intense, driving erratically, and ranting about being âpissed off at the worldâ and Luigi Mangione, capitalism, and vigilantism,â prosecutors noted in a trial memorandum. When asked why someone would ultimately set the blaze, Rinderknecht allegedly responded that it âwould be out of resentment of the rich enjoying their money as âweâre basically being enslaved by themâ and compared such an act of âdesperationâ to the murder for which Mangione was charged,â according to the memo.***

Animal rescuers working in Los Angeles' Skid Row are raising the alarm over a practice they say has become a grim pattern. They allege that drug users expose dogs to narcotics, including fentanyl-laced substances, to test whether a supply is safe to consume. The allegation, made on the record by frontline volunteers, forms part of a wider crisis of animal abuse in one of America's most densely populated homeless encampments. Pit bulls are confined in wire crates in 90-degree heat, pregnant dogs give birth without veterinary care, and animals are bred in bulk and sold for cash or traded for drugs. Despite repeated calls for enforcement from advocates, animal control agencies and California lawmakers, rescuers say the response from city and county officials has been, at best, inconsistent. Drug Testing on Dogs, Volunteer Accounts Victoriah Parker, co-founder of the nonprofit Starts With One Today, has worked with dogs on Skid Row for eight years. Speaking to CBS Los Angeles, she described what she and other volunteers say they witness regularly. In a unanimous vote Wednesday, the Los Angeles City Council moved to end the Police Departmentâs use of pretextual stops, a law enforcement tactic long criticized by civil rights advocates who say it disproportionately targets Black and Latino residents. Pretextual stops occur when officers pull over or detain someone for a minor violation as a way to investigate possible evidence of a more serious crime. According to a report released earlier this year by the Los Angeles Chief Legislative Analystâs Office, LAPD officers conducted more than 72,000 pretextual stops between April 2022 and September 2025. When can I be paroled from Life without Parole?
America has some dangerous murderers serving sentences of Life without Parole, LWOP. The idea is that the sentence is a guarantee that the murderer will never, ever leave prison alive, and never, ever kill again.

NY Senate Bill S454 would allow you to kill five people in a family of 10 and be sentenced to LWOP at age 40. At age 55, you could be paroled to go out and kill the remaining five family members. Assuming you were again sentenced to LWOP at age 55, you could be paroled once more at 70.

Why was dirtbag out of prison?
The gunman who allegedly opened fire on passing cars on Memorial Drive in Cambridge, Massachusetts Monday afternoon is 46-year-old Tyler Brown from Boston. Brown was shot and wounded by a State Police trooper and a civilian and taken into custody. Two people in separate cars were struck by the gunfire and taken to Boston hospitals with life-threatening injuries. Brown is no stranger to law enforcement, with a criminal record that dates back to 2008 when he was convicted of cocaine distribution. In 2020, he was charged with attempting to kill Boston Police officers. At the time, Brown pleaded guilty to eight charges including armed assault with intent to murder and attempted assault and battery by means of discharging a firearm for firing at a Boston Police officer.
According to I-Team sources, a photo of Tyler Brown was included in an officer safety bulletin that went out Monday morning in Boston. *** Shortly after the bulletin went out, videos of Brown were recorded by witnesses on Memorial Drive. He is seen walking down the middle of the street, terrorizing drivers and waving and shooting a long gun. Witnesses said he shot at cars and in the air, before he was shot and taken into custody. *** At the time of the armed assault in 2020, Brown was on probation for a 2014 conviction for assault and battery with a knife and witness intimidation. In 2021, Brown was sentenced to 5-6 years in state prison followed by probation. He was also ordered to undergo mental health evaluations and treatment.*** Brown ended up serving about three-and-a-half years in prison after his sentencing date. A young woman who declined to help prosecutors after a violent subway encounter now says her silence cost a stranger his life. She and a friend were riding a Manhattan train on April 2 when Rhamell Burke struck up an unwanted conversation, the 23-year-old told the New York Post (NYP). When the pair tried to escape into another car, the 32-year-old followed and allegedly yanked her head downward in an attempt to slam her to the floor and kicked her friend in the back, she said. Officers happened to be standing nearby when they fled at the West 4th Street-Washington Square Station and arrested Burke on the spot. Despite the violence, she walked away from the case rather than work with prosecutors, she told the NYP. Her reasoning, she said, was racial. âMaybe a part of me was just like, I donât want to put another black man in jail, but, you know, at some point, if you are a criminal, youâre a criminal, and he was scary, he was a scary guy,â she told the outlet.***
âI regret it 100% and I actually feel really bad that a man lost his life,â she told the NYP. Her April 2 case ended with Burke walking free. Prosecutors requested $3,000 bail, but a judge granted him supervised release instead, according to the New York Daily News (NYDW). It was one of four arrests Burke had collected since February, with each case ending in release without bail or under supervision, the outlet reported. Officers picked Burke up again hours before the deadly shove, after he was seen acting erratically outside the 17th Precinct, ABC7 New York reported. They drove him to Bellevue at 3:39 p.m. for a psychiatric evaluation. Staff cleared him by 4:39 p.m. He killed Falzone about five hours later, ABC7 reported.***

Michael Mott, 41, was part of the âunhoused community,â according to the Colorado Springs Police Department. He was most recently arrested on April 10 and charged with first-degree criminal trespass and resisting arrest. Records reviewed by The New York Post show Mott had multiple run-ins with law enforcement dating back to his teenage years, including arrests at 17 for minor offenses such as shoplifting and underage drinking. In April 2010, the Montezuma County Sheriffâs Office arrested him on felony domestic violence, menacing and assault charges.
