her sexual harassment is headcanoned into romance (which is fine bc you can hc whatever u want but they often pretend it’s actually there and sebastian has more of a romantic connection with her than the person he’s literally flirting with 75% of the manga), it’s funny they ignore kuro prioritising the romantic/very sexually charged relationship between sbcl and say people who see it are delusional and perverse but they like a woman who (in a misogynistic rage caused by the classist notion that prostitutes are unworthy of living because they get abortions??? everyone forgot how she was first introduced for some reason) teamed up with a noblewoman and killed lots of innocent women and they ship her w/ the demon (who eats people to live while strangely having a moral compass, also she considers him an inferior being to her since his class is subjugated into contracts with humans in order to eat or are feral and scavenge for souls and are hunted down by reapers/exorcists) and oddly they somehow think she’s morally superior to him (the guy who shows more disgust at depraved acts than the reapers do and brags about how abberline thinks him and ciel are good guys who take care of the people), it’s like they think that whole “noxious beast” thing is true and a normal thing to say to someone (since they claim fiction = reality in their minds)… they treat all characters like real people but grelle’s behaviour is ok? UT is hot? like sorry sebs called UT deranged while ronald flirted with a woman who he knew would die then complained about overtime??? the reapers are less likely to say “wow that’s really horrible and cruel” than the literal devil 😟‼️ don’t get me wrong, i think they’re really cool characters but antis??? why do you like them!!! they’re literally not good!!!! wtf !!

Which he did when she was approximately 14.

Which is exactly how old Ciel will be when we get to the Brighton arc, considering that we are now somewhere around December.

I'd been planning on talking about Sebastian and pomegranates for a bit but I'm still sort of recovering from being sick so instead I'll drop this in your lap (actually courtesy of @plague-of-insomnia who dropped it into in mine recently)

Pomegranates are also considered the fruit of Aphrodite, the goddess of love and beauty.

(@plague-of-insomnia) Something additional I discovered later on my own research after you brought it up: the pomegranates are said by some to apparently be the substitute that Kishimojin came to feast upon on instead of human flesh (which isn't especially clear from the earlier pieces). The pomegranates were the replacement offering.

I see the reverse of this being plausible too - Sebastian as Persephone, drawn out by Ciel and chosen and bound by him. He's the invigorator of life into his dark halls - literally the one preening his garden (alongside Finny, who mirrors both characters and is so obviously a life giving character.) Sebastian is equally associated with lilies - funerary flowers. Like the mistletoe, he is both parasitic and celebratory. Their meeting is a horrific approximation of a wedding ceremony, Sebastian is the bride rushed to the altar amidst fevered chanting. I have to stop now otherwise I'll get into gendered subtext of Ciel summoning Sebastian to their marital death-contract with the spilling of real Ciel's blood and the sacrifices of his soul, and how both of his own are kept chastely in no mans land and the death-sex liminality of his existence - in this sense, he either has to break off his engagement (live) or consummate it (death). But I think that's where the flower meaning diverges - like their relationship, it isn't all death and suicide-love. If the contract - the presupposing of their dynamic upon destruction - is undone, that doesn't necessarily mean they must be so too. Persephone spends half her time with the living, and half with the dead, and I wonder if we might see a similar sort of compromise regarding their post contract interaction.

The point about Buddhist mythology is too poignant not to comment on (especially since I think it's sometimes undervalued by the Western audience despite being an obvious immediate cultural influence on the author) - because that essentially is what I see happening to Sebastian. I think more exploration into Modhri's backstory will emphasise that. He's been a bringer of death and destruction and a font of ruination to those he contracts with, and it's through love for another that he's transforming into something capable of upholding light, and something capable of altruistically wanting too. Like in the Kishimojin story, I think that will be consciously realised by him when Ciel (here it's a little complicated because Ciel's livelihood is indivisible from his hold on Ciel - it would be interesting to see him continue to defend Ciel after the contract is interrupted or suspended) is threatened - by Undertaker , who puts himself in the place of God - and he then understands the depth of his significance to him.
