I love thinking about the first time life made noise above the water. Not just the sound of movement, but vocalizing or other intentional sounds. It's such a hugely important part of life out of the water. I wonder what those first sounds were and who made them. Somebody with an exoskeleton, I'm sure. Did they click? Did they trill? Who heard them? Did they make a sound in response? Then it happened all over again when vertebrates crawled onto the land. Imagine the croaking, the beeping, the proto-amphibian songs.
