Five storied female NASA pioneers will soon grace toy-store shelves, in Lego form.
The Danish company announced on Tuesday that it would produce the Women of NASA set, submitted by science writer Maia Weinstock.
“Women have played critical roles throughout the history of the U.S. space program,” Weinstock wrote in her project proposal. “Yet in many cases, their contributions are unknown or under-appreciated – especially as women have historically struggled to gain acceptance in the fields of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics.”
She said the set is meant to shed light on the rich history of women in STEM professions.

There’s very few toys I’m interested in buying, but this is definitely going on my wish list. Too bad I have to wait until last 2017/ early 2018...Â

She became one of the most intrepid war correspondents of the 20th century.
Read this article. What an amazing life story, and the things she did! You couldn’t make this stuff up.
When I tell people I’m majoring in history, I have no clue why they think it’s boring when people like Clare Hollingworth existedÂ
Travel the World in 13 Books

Spring break is coming up, and I have so much reading to do for classes, but I really want to read several books on this list
I’m normally not an animal person, but I think I could get behind having this dog

The Soviet military mapped the entire world, but few have seen the actual, physical maps—until now.
How have I never heard of this before? This is absolutely fascinating... I wonder if @pyrrhiccomedy has heard about these maps?Â

This map will definitely not help you get anywhere, but it’s still oddly usefulÂ

Tumblr is hard
After a week of being an official tumblier, I’ve discovered just how difficult it is. There’s two main challenges...Â
1) Curating the ideal tumblr. Like most things, it’s easier said than done. First, deciding on a theme is nearly impossible. (Things I like? Too vague, I’m stuck.) Then, finding and choosing the ideal content to post and reblog is arduous. Adding tags and doing anything beyond the basics is still beyond me. Finally, I have to add something insightful to the post, when I’m already tired. Which leads to the next problem...
2) Proofreading. It’s one thing to do it for a paper, but for tumblr? Apparently I still have to check what I write. If not, people will think I’m in[e]pt instead of an INTP.
I have questions
To get to the other side

A few literary suggestions for Black History Month
Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
Maybe you know Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie from when Beyoncé sampled her TEDx talk, “We should all be feminists,” or maybe you’ve been following her emergence as one of the most prominent voices of African literature over the last two decades. Her latest novel, Americanah, was selected by The New York Times as one of the 10 Best Books of 2013.
Edna Lewis
Edna Lewis had a hell of a career. She worked her way up as a seamstress, eventually fashioning a dress for Marilyn Monroe. Then she became the first African-American celebrity chef. Then she broke her leg, so she wrote a cookbook. The Taste of Country Cooking was interspersed with personal stories of growing up in a freed-slave settled town in Virginia, and redefined what many thought of Southern food. Â
Roxane Gay
Roxane Gay (@roxanegay), famed author of Bad Feminist, is a Tumblr favorite, and not just because you can follow her. She writes about what it means to be a woman of color. She’s the first Black woman to write for Marvel, and she’s writing queer WOC into their storylines. She pulled her unreleased book from publishers Simon & Schuster after their deal with Milo Yiannopoulos was announced. It’s easy to admire her actions as much as her writing.Â
Follow these too:
Afro Editions (@afroeditions) posts and reblogs all things Black lit, including this bell hooks Valentine’s Day card and these suggestions for Black sci-fi.
The Center for African-American Poetry and Poetics (@caapoetryandpoetics) highlights exactly what you think it will.
Bonus: We highlighted it last year, but Black Children’s Books and Authors (@blackchildrensbooksandauthors) deserves a spotlight on it again.Â
Don’t miss our upcoming BHM Answer Times. This week and next week, we have:
2/21—Angelica Ross (@missrosscreative), transgender rights advocate.
2/22—Actress Amandla Stenberg (@amandla)
2/23—Comedian and actor Andrew Bachelor, better known as King Bach (@kingbach).
2/24—Washington Post (@washingtonpost) editorial board member and MSNBC contributor Jonathan Capehart.
Reblogging entirely for the Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie quote...

This is what life means to them…
@whitepeopledoingdumbshit
This is wild and disgusting as hell
………anyways
bugs are cool and its nice to see kids talking about them and liking them because fear and disgust of bugs is entirely social and theres no reason to be scared of them so, this kid is really cool and i hope more parents let their children grow up so they dont learn to fear bugs! children having a healthy interest in harmless animals is great, and roaches are cute little critters
A kid taking an interest in bugs is cool. But roaches aren’t harmless. Roach infestations can expose you to bacteria-resistant strains of urinary tract infections, sepsis, and salmonella, as they regurgitate the bacteria in their own bodies in order to eat your food. Living in an environment with roaches also will cause you to become increasingly sensitive to roach allergens (because essentially, you are breathing in tiny bits of roach), which can lead to respiratory distress and the development of asthma, particularly in children.Â
In all, roaches have been observed spreading 33 different kinds of infectious bacteria, 7 different kinds of parasitic worms, and at least seven other kinds of human pathogens.
This isn’t gross because roaches are inherently gross. That’s a matter of opinion. It’s gross because it’s dangerous and unhygienic. Also, roach fecal matter deposited in exciting secret stashes will make your house smell terrible.
Roaches are also adventurous little things who will roam far and wide for food. This girl’s interest, and her family’s indulgence of it, are putting their neighbors at risk of an infestation that could also potentially cause health problems and cost hundreds or thousands of dollars to eradicate. There’s a potential lawsuit here.
Fear and disgust of bugs is NOT just “inherently social,” and roaches are not harmless little house pixies that are just misunderstood.
