I truly believe that doubt is how faith grows. Sitting down with ourself and really questioning "why do I believe this?". It's helped me many times grow closer to God.
So hey, you. If you've doubted your faith, your belief, even yourself recently, I hope and pray that you get the answers you need.
God wants your broken heart, your contrite spirit, the most honest and raw forms of them. He desires your weakness be given to him to bear, that your tears be small offers of prayers. You needn't to fix your heart before you stand at the foot of the Lord, instead bring your crumbling heart and your weeping to Him so he may be your strength.
how do we live through this?
faithfully

It does bother me a little bit when people call esoteric works like the Book of Revelation "incomprehensible". It's not! It's just esoteric! It was written by real people for materially comprehensible reasons!
The underlying message of apocalyptic literature as a social technology is geopolitical. It says "don't worry; God has a plan."

the church is really like: gender is fake. God is a woman. jesus christ is our mother. you can experience sexual, sensual pleasure with God. the first apostle was a woman. female sexuality is a cornerstone of the history of ecstatic mysticism. you are a chivalrous knight to the Lordβs maiden. you can nurse from Godβs breast and be nourished on his milk. and somehow almost none of this made it into actual christian practice.
all of this is foundational to christianity, it is interwoven into the basis of all christian practice, and yet somehow we wound up with one of the most bigoted, violent, sexist, misogynistic downright dangerous religious practices in history.Β
have u heard abt the anglican schism
the truly unfortunate thing about the archbishop of caturbury, is that basically nobody cares if they are not in communion with anyone else.
Also: it always comes down to women in the church doesn't it?
THE TWO GREAT DEMONS LOOMING OVER THE ABRAHAMIC RELIGIONS: real estate and women
i've said it before and i will continue to say it religion and God and life are so so so much bigger and more astonishingly beautiful than fundamentalism will ever allow you to see and once you and your God can get yourselves out of those tiny pathetic boxes they try to fit the two of you into you can find more genuine joy and meaning in religion and spirituality than you ever thought possible. if you want. i promise
Christ should radicalize you.

feeling extremely normal about Jesus's baptism right now. like, about the fact that at the very start of his ministry he reveals his dedication to living a fully human life and truly being one of us, and at the same time this is the revelation of his identity as the Christ, when the heavens open and the Spirit descends and the Father speaks: "You are my beloved Son". I'm feeling very normal about that.
I'm also feeling very normal about the fact that Mark opens with this. we get "the beginning of the good news of Jesus Christ" and then immediately we get the baptism.
and about the fact that Jesus's baptism sets the tone for how he will lead throughout the gospels - not as someone who is apart from and above everyone else and telling them what to do and how to live, but as someone whose teaching and leadership is fundamentally defined by solidarity and participation. he does not simply show up and instruct people to get baptized - he gets baptized. he does not simply show up and tell people to take up their cross - he goes to his death on the cross. and he does not simply show up and command people to love - he loves enough to lay down his life and continue to love, through death and into resurrection.
I'm feeling very normal about this
I spent hours combing through pictures of Roman catacombs to put these slides together. I love paleo Christian art so much
