It fucks me up that no one is talking about this scene. Most of ep. 2 outside of the Vox and Alastor stuff is overlooked.
This part shows that clearly, Angel WANTS to change, he WANTS to be redeemed, and maybe even go to heaven. He can’t say any of that to Charlie though. She would be ecstatic of course, but that would be the problem. Angel isn’t a perfect victim, he lashes out and does drugs and hurts people. He wouldn’t want to see the disappointment on Charlie’s face when he relapses.
People are taking Charlie’s same views despite seeing this scene. “Angel isn’t a real patron” has been the collective perspective of the fandom. THIS IS NOT TRUE!
Then there’s the issue “addict trash like you doesn’t change.” Angel’s season one arc was finding he has people who love him despite his flaws, and finding solidarity in Husk. I’m hoping his season two arc is discovering that he CAN change, and DESERVES a chance at redemption. (And I REALLY hope that Husk learns that alongside him) More importantly, that he learns he can screw up and still be loved and believed in.
