unproductive but fun day

Notes on Nationalism, Antisemitism in Britain, and the Sporting Spirit by George Orwell

These three essays were so interesting, so pertinent to today’s political climate, and also full of thought provoking questions and pokes at intellectuals which, as a recent graduate of a masters degree (hehehe 👩‍🎓) I found fascinating.

I legit just bought this book and sat down immediately to read it, absolutely recommend especially given it takes no more than an hour to read.

It’s only one in the afternoon and yet it’s been such a productive day already! I had some free ClassPass lessons so I went to a Pilates class (usually I’m strictly a gym girl but it was fun!). Then I came home and got right to studying.

Usually I’ve been trying to do a ‘quiz’ on Fridays I did it today as I was a bit slow on the lessons this week and I did really good! My B1 grammar lessons are almost done and I’ve beaten Anki Farm Tycoon (thinking of starting Ankimons now?). Also I made myself a nice matcha to study with this morning and my boyfriend was petting the cat he supposedly doesn’t like this morning and it was adorable (we’re cat sitting).

Still for today I want to:

Go through my new anki words and maybe add a few more (I’m so close to 1300 which was this weeks goal).

Read a good amount of Harry Potter (I want to get to pg. 14 and I’m on pg. 11, but it’s getting super easy to read)

Today was a busy busy day, I once again spent all day mostly with my partners family, so lots of speaking Dutch! His oma is very sweet and likes to talk a lot but also talks slowly enough for me to understand well. It is so satisfying to hear his family say I have improved my Dutch so much! The consistency is paying off!

I am thinking of making myself a Dutch study challenge for the last couple of weeks before me and my partner visit Canada, any ideas? I’ve never done a study challenge before of any kind.

We’re back at my partners grandparents’ house, it is so peaceful out here in the countryside and they are Dutch so I get so much immersion spending time with the family. I didn’t get much formal studying done yesterday other than my late night study session but his entire family is so supportive of my learning.

productive non-study day

Today I got in a great workout, did my Anki, but spent almost the whole day working on moving me out of my old studio and officially into my boyfriend’s house (I’ve been unofficially living there for four months).

The Vegetarian by Han Kang

Finishing this book is not a good way to start your morning, that is for sure. The book itself though is deeply disturbing, just the way I like them to be! This book had me feeling déjà vu several times throughout the reading process and was all consuming over the three days I read it.

It is told from three perspectives, the first two of which are infuriating and the last of which is heartbreaking. Reading this as a long time vegetarian myself was frustrating but also enlightening in many ways.
