HACKS APPRECIATION WEEK — Day 4: Favourite Main Character Ava Daniels played by Hannah Einbinder

Ava Daniels my bisexual, matcha latte making, agent of chaos, you absolute fucking dweeb. I love you. My favourite character is a coin toss between Deb and Ava on any given day, any given second really and my first time watching I was definately all about Deb for the most part, I mean, we are all Hannah fawning over Jean, are we not?  But I had to go with Ava for this because well, she’s the catalyst. 

Even though the show opens on Deborah, Ava sets everything in motion. We enter Deb’s world through her, our perceptions and understanding of everything is predominately shaped through her. She is a fucking mess and she self sabotages and she wants to be loved unconditionally and so desperately it hurts. She wants to be good. I love Deborah SO MUCH but that’s actually the cherry on top or me in a weird way, I get to experience love for Deborah through Ava. I am so much like Ava in so many ways. Yearning for meaning, to matter, to escape a shitty childhood riddled with bullshit catholic guilt and shame and being queer. I’m a bonafide oversharer and I’m the friend that spends too much on a elderflower matcha latte and loves every second of it. (But do let it be known that I do know who Alan Alda is and I abssolutely do not consider myself Gen Z.) 

I think about how she gifts Deborah the magazine and it’s so fucking sincere and lovely and vulnerable and exposing and I could take a page from Ava’s book to not be embarrassed by that kind of gesture beacuse that shit matters and it makes a difference and it makes people’s life better. 

I think all that was said was, "Mark?" "My baby." and "Come on."
