hudson and aika having the time of their lives
Kissy!!
I feel like everyone talks about how great of a father Ilya is gonna be because he's so good with kids so often, that we ignore Shane has THE most dad energy I've ever seen. He's standing beside his kids while they watch TV, claiming he's not watching because he has stuff to do. He's up at 7am on a saturday mowing the lawn or fixing stuff in the bathroom you didn't even KNOW needed fixing. His kids come home from practice and he's watching the most niche ass hockey stats breakdown video on youtube and he is SAT and focused for all 40 minutes. Oh you mentioned you like something? He's picking several up from the store DONT comment on it. All of his texts have periods, are straight to the point, and include either "OK" or "👍"
And he's the best dad a kid could ask for.
married shane does NOT play about ilya when it comes to the press. he's letting out a decade of pent up 'wheres the fucking translator? what do you fucking MEAN you don't have one?', instant 'rephrase that' to the offending journalist when ilya hesitates over a question, gets into full blown forget-the-media-training arguments when it's implied that ilya is somehow stupid for not speaking perfect english, n switches seamlessly between russian, french, and english to make interviews as easy as possible for ilya. meanwhile ilya is giving him the biggest wettest lover boy eyes n WILL be raw dogging him crazy style the moment its over.

ilya entering that hospital room sick to his stomach teeth ground to dust spirit crushed under the weight of their circumstances prepared to have an extremely difficult conversation and shane immediately hitting him with this
Its really funny how people see a grown white man, engaging with and supporting music by other white men that uses the rape, murder and abuse of poc as an aesthetic and have nothing but immediate defense for him without ever even considering that maybe he did something ignorant and insensitive. Then they go so far as to defend that music and the ppl who made it, and even tout them as leftists because they've fooled themselves into believing white supremacy isn't an issue in alt spaces even though black people especially have been screaming about it for decades. And by funny I mean depressing.
A lot of fellow Hudson fans believe that the fan to hater pipeline (and the hate train) happened because of Hudson was getting more popular than Connor, but I disagree. What happened was not Hudson getting more popular, but that Hudson was showing that he has no problem acing his interviews and attending events alone, without needing Connor to "support" or "control" him. Because back then people think Connor was the main breakout star of HR, and the early promos have Hudson still being a bit shy and reserved as they wait for the reactions to their series with Connor being supportive of him, and then when the series blew up Hudson became more confident so he became the chaos monster that Connor needs to control / tame. So they are ready for Hudson to be clingy to Connor and for Connor to play the more wise, more talented co-star who will guide him and Hudson will play the jester and cheerleader for Connor's talents.
Hudson promoting alone and being confident and eloquent ran opposite to the clingy person they have built up in their heads, and coincidentally Connor came across as more naive and needing support in his solo appearances at the same period, so it's like the roles turned around. And then the news about Hudson having a girlfriend dropped and people feel like they have been duped. They don't like that Hudson is seemingly having his cake and eating it too without needing to stick by Connor for guidance and validation.
CF just gave these fans something to hold on as proof that Connor is personally superior than Hudson - Connor's a real gay, unlike Hudson with his girlfriend. And they want to punish Hudson for not needing Connor and not being there for Connor, by holding on to the claim that Connor has another man with him. But yeah ultimately it all came from the discomfort that Hudson was taking up space where he shouldn't exist and was doing it well without needing help. The popularity doesn't matter - even if Connor is more popular, they think Hudson deserves nothing and shouldn't be anywhere unless it's to be jester and cheerleader for Connor.
It's why I think both CF shippers and HC shippers are similar, at the end of the day all of them are not at peace with how Hudson's name has its own unique space in conversations, separate from Connor. That there are rooms where Hudson can be in that Connor can't be in.
Yeah honestly this probably is more accurate than simply saying Hudson got more popular especially because Connor fans have been trying for a long time now to convince themselves and others that Connor has the same attributes in interviews that Hudson does and are often crediting something Hudson alone did to both of them. That does come off as them feeling insecure or threatened about how Hudson can carry himself in an interview compared to Connor and being resentful about it. Also when it became clear that Hudson was more popular (which I would say happened at Paris fashion week. I think he was more popular before then but Paris Fashion Week is when it became undeniable even to haters) I remember how easily haters dismissed this as being because he was more like an influencer and just wanting attention or whatever too.
Gay Penn State athlete found inspiration in 'Heated Rivalry,' particularly the portrayal by Hudson Williams of an athlete of Asian descent.
“…But when Heat of Rivalry came out, I think on a personal level, it hit very differently.”
The series features the protagonist Shane Hollander, portrayed in the HBO adaptation by Hudson Williams, an actor of Korean descent.
“The main character is like a gay Asian male who is competing amongst a lot of amazing people,” Suico continued. “A lot about the show really resonated with me, and I felt very represented at that moment.
“Hudson Williams’ portrayal of the character made me feel very supported in my life, and more confident in myself and what I wanted to do.”
Zachary Suico, a fencer who competes for Penn State talking about Heated Rivalry and Hudson…this is so lovely!!!! 🥹

What it boils down to for me is that they would rather judge a photo of a 17-year-old biracial kid with a hate symbol drawn on him in a small predominantly white town, versus the 25-year-old man who shows up to anti-Asian and BLM marches, loudly hates AI, likes posts about anti-fascism, reads books about the immigrant experience, writes and directs short films about queer relationships and identity, and watches poignant movies about the human experience from diverse directors. That is the person they want to cancel. They don't care who he is now because it was never about morality. It was always about their dislike of him as a person, as a person of colour, as a man in a loving relationship with a woman, and someone with intellectual ambition.
They hate Hudson because Hudson makes them feel small and insignificant. They hate Hudson because he shouldn't be more popular than his white co-stars. They hate Hudson because he doesn't adhere to their conventions of attractiveness, aka white. I mean, it shouldn't surprise you that the majority, if not all, of his haters stan only white men. I don't include kpop stans because they are some of the worst perpetrators of anti-Asian rhetoric, they just don't realise it.
So, they can keep doing this but I'm still going to stand with the 25-year-old Hudson of today.
Hell, I'd stand with 17-year-old Hudson and tell him, it'll be okay.
Because unless you've been the only minority in a mostly white group/town, you have no idea how much you put up with and smile through. Even at 19-20, I put up with so much because it was easier than fighting every single person. No, even at 24, I stayed silent when my family were being racially profiled on a train full of white people in the middle of Europe because it was safer not to make a fuss and get off the train. Anyone who can't see the nuance in that is either wilfully ignorant of experiences outside of their own or has incredibly white privilege.
