Asking For It by Louise O’Neil
Goodreads link:https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/25255576-asking-for-it
Such a geat book, Im speechless and I imagine so is everyone who read this book.
This tells the story of Emma, in the beginning she is the perfect mean girl, she is perfect, se needs to get everyones atenttion, she is mean, even with her best firends. She loves being perfect but then goes to parties and gets drunk, uses drugs, like any other eighteen year old lests say. This is the Emma we see in the begining.
One night things get out of control, she takes some drugs and her world collapses. Pictures appear showin how she was abussed by four boys anda that is when the chaos beigins.
Now Emma has no life, no friends, her parents and small town cant look al her all because of what she did. Before she was a slut now she is accusing the boys of rape, but why? She wanted it, she asked for it.
This book deals with rape, consent, victim-bleaming, sluth-shaming and double standards. I liked that in the Afterword the author says ’We need to talk and talk and talk until the Emmas of this world feel supported and understood’ and I think that reflect the intention of the book.
Dont expect a lovely ending, or how the truth always wins, this is not that kind of book, this is just pure reality and that is how it ends, unknown.
Great author, eye opeining, intense, a total reality check. This is a book worth reading.
Making a Murderer - Netflix Serie
I am a person who is always looking for the next thing to read/watch/listen, etc. Lately I found lots of things about this Netflix Serie called ’Making a murderer’ a real life documentary about a man who goes to prison for something he didnt do. Im not into this type real life thriller , because once I start, I become obssesed and need to know anything about everything.
Anyway, I gave it a try, and of course I couldnt stop. I watched all 10 episodes in less than a day.
‘Making a murderer’ is not only a documentary, its a true life story. You go from being outraghed to sad to sorry to amazed, you go through all this emotions, you feel hopless, you get mad, you doubt. I was really eye-opening and scary to think that things like this happen everyday.
Im still a bit overwhelmed about it, but it is a story that needs to be tell and a serie you need to watch. Tumbs up Netflix.
Play by Kylie Scott
One of my new years resolutions when it came to reading was to look for more serious books, with complex characters and complex stories, books that made me laugh but also think and reflect, etc.. FAILLLLLLL!
Knowing that, I’ve tryed to stary away from romantic YA books, a huge guilty pleasure of mine, but again FAILLLLLLLL!
So its summer, for us in the south, and being a teacher I am on my holiday break. These facts are important, because, yes I have lots of time to read, so I should seize the moment and read all those content full books that are waiting on my Kindle, but no.
Now here we are, part two of the Stage Dive series, again a rockstar, another member from David’s band (rockstar from book 1) Mel, and the next door neighbour from Evie (girl from book 1) Ann. The story is the same, girl next door with troubled past falls for super hot troubled rockstar, you know the rest.
It was your typical YA romance, maybe more on the adult side given that this books tend to have lots of sex (blame it on Fifty Shades). But all in all, and given all the previous explenation, it was a perfect summer read, cheesy. romantic, unrealistic. There is no much more to say.
I would like to say that know I can move on to more complex books but doubt it, so lets keep them coming, Book 3 (this time Anna’s sister and another member of the band) will probably be next.
There is no point treating a depressed person as though she were just feeling sad, saying, ‘There now, hang on, you’ll get over it.’ Sadness is more or less like a head cold- with patience, it passes. Depression is like cancer.

When you have an hour for lunch and you spend it like this
Second Chance Summer by Morgan Matson
Goodreads description: www.goodreads.com/book/show/11071466-second-chance-summer
This is my classic summer read, its not because of the title, but because I always end up reading this type of books during my summer break.
First, Morgan Matson wrote one of my favourite books of 2015, Amy & Roger’s Epic Detour, so I knew I was going to like it
Taylor has to change her summer plans, her father is sick and all the family is going back to the lake house. She hasnt been back there for 5 years and al because of something that happend.
That of course is a boy. I tought the main drama between Taylor, Henry and Lucy made little sense, they were twelve, get over it. But it doesnt afect the flow of the book and once its solved the best part of the book comes to life.
Yes it is a sad story, but what caught my attention was how it dealt with the relationships inside a family who is going through so much. I felt what they felt, it made me think about my family and all the thing we take for granted.
It was sad, and compelling, and tough sometimes it felt short, like SPOILER ALERT, there was no need for Taylor to break up with Henry, again. The thing is, when finding yourself in a situation like that, I guess you tend to make those stupid mistakes.
All in all, a really good summer read from a really great author.
There are so many people we could become, and we leave such a trail of bodies through our teens and twenties that it’s hard to tell which one is us. How many versions do we abandon over the years?
Dan Chaon, Among the Missing (via books-n-quotes)
So true.
Movie - The Martian
Unexpected. For sure I was gonna hate it. Love it, so funny!
I do not check spelling, grammar or whatever, maybe in the future.
Just to clarify.

Invincible by Amy Reed
Goodreads description: www.goodreads.com/book/show/22960609-invincible
I have been wanting to read on of Amy Reed’s books for a long time but never got to do it until now. I was randomly looking for a book in my best friend aka my kindle and fount this one.
So first, cancer patient Evie is not going to make it, but SPOILER ALERT, she does. And now what? Shes been the cancer girl for a long time now and she doesnt know what to do. She hates everyboy and doesnt know how to deal so she turns to drugs.
Being a John Green fan since forever its no sourprise that I liked this book. It is dark and sometimes yo want to smack Evie but on the other hand you undertand what she feels that way. Of course theres a boy but, and here is my HUGE proble, the book ends with a clifhanger.
This book was suposed to end, but it didnt! And I am mad! There is a sequel to this book and I cant, I just cant. Its not because I need to find out what happens, its because I didnt know there was a sequel, and a sequel tat comes out in May. So not only there was an open ending, the resolution comes in May and though I really liked the book, it was a fast read, my type of YA contemporary book I still cant deal with that ending.
Lick by Kylie Scott
Goodreads description: /www.goodreads.com/book/show/17983690-lick
So yes, Im one of those girls. I should be hiding but this type of books are my guilty pleasure. This new adult contemporary book has every cliche thats out there. Super hot rockstar, naive college girl, fall in love, complications and of course sex.
I fell that I need this type of books once in a while, I had the same felling with the Book Boyfirend series by Erin Noelle, though those were far better.
In this one Evelyn gets drunk in Vegas and gets married with David, a super hot rockstar which she doesnt know. She doesnt remember what happend, he is hurt but they try to make it work while being sorrounder by paparazzi his bandmates and her family.
Love, sex, hot boys, rockstars, a love story, theres no much more to say. So yes, I am into stupid love stories. Somethimes I read Sarah Dessen type of romantic books, somethimes Fifthy Shades types of books, I think this comes in between.
Its summer, I am on holidays and single, so deal with it.
Th Girl with the Wrong Name by Barnabas Miller
Goodreads description:
https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/24972562-the-girl-with-the-wrong-name
First book of the year! I will try to make it as simple as possible. We can say this book is a YA psychological thriller very engaging but sometimes it fell short.
So Theo has lost her memory one night and a boy, the ‘’’Lost Boy’ helps her solve the problem that is what happend that night? The characters are good, well developed, it has twists and turns and its very unexpected in some ways, sometimes the story had so many turns and new characters turned into the mix that it was confussing, but in the end it all comes to a closure and in an unexpected way.
I liked the ‘’lost memory’’ factor and how crazy Theo along the story, it made me crazy sometimes.
All in all, great start given that Im not so into psychological thrillers
Let’s start
So here it goes. I’m a book addict. I’ve read more than 80 books last year and now I’m atemptting to write something about the ones that I’m planning on reading this year. Being an spanish speaker this is going to be hard, but it will also help me with my English, and given that I’m an English teacher I guess, why not?
So let’s get this thing started.
