in 2026 DO NOT ask yourself whether your art is GOOD
instead ask:
is it SINCERE
was it CATHARTIC
was it FUN TO MAKE
is it MADE BY ME
and don't forget to stay silly
let's talk about Bridgerton tea, my ask is open

reminding myself daily that choices are portals, not endings
not enough secret gardens and hidden passageways and bookshelves that open to a mysterious library these days. get working on that girls.

no but really, likeÂ
i know that some folks love telling creative people that âyou should be doing it for fun because you love it not for the complimentsâ but creative people thrive on feedback whether itâs critical or just complimentary
so when i write fanfiction and donât get any actual feedback i feel like i spent all that time and energy doing it for nothing because iâm not getting feedback from the people i wrote it forÂ
doing something youâre proud of and then presenting it to the sound of utter silence is like the worst feeling on earthÂ
I know the feeling of this.
i like to think: what if you were in a play and you spend all that time learning your lines and your cues and going to rehearsal for hours and hours and being bone tired and then getting up on stage opening night and giving it your all only to be met with silence from the audience at the final curtain call. No one would question why that upset them.
An art instructor in my childhood said something to me Iâve never forgotten - that a work of art isnât complete until it has been experienced - seen, heard, etc. Â That this wasnât just some abstract concept, but a visceral truth for the artist - that the work wasnât DONE until the end result had been witnessed, appreciated, critiqued - whatever, it didnât have to be positive negative knowledgable, it just had to happen as the concluding event, the final brush stroke.
Some folks who donât get it go about thinking we make art or write fic because we crave praise or attention or fans, or even that some writers/artists thrive on negativity and drama (and to be sure, all of these things are true some times!). Â But thatâs too narrow an understanding of why we art. I think my art teacher was telling a fundamental truth about the psychology of creativity - that art is a communal experience, that until we share our creative work and see how people respond, we do not have closure on that work. Â
Art is communication - and communication shouted into the void is frighteningly isolating. We need our readers our viewers our audience. We need to hear what you think. We need to converse in comments, answer your counter thoughts or thoughtful critique, we need the conversation - thatâs what art is :)
Never feel bad for desiring feedback - itâs not some extra frill that exists outside of the creative process. It is a critical part of the creative process - and if you cannot find your audience in one venue, donât give up. Â Keep putting your art out there until your audience finds you :)

This entire book played out like an animated movie in my head so i had to draw the characters as if they were in one đâ¨

Jane Austen really said âI respect the âI can fix himâ movement but thatâs just not me. Heâll fix himself if knows whatâs good for himâ and thatâs why her works are still calling the shots today.
Meanwhile Emily BrĂśnte just said âWe can make each other worse.âÂ
Mary Shelley said, "I can make him
If youâd like to be slapped in the face by an ending, look no further
Sorry to be an ugly fun-killer but in light of the recent Invasion I urge you all to be mindful of the things you reblog and the memes that you repost. Please remember that behind every "world war 3 lmao" post there is a reality where real people are going to be displaced from their homes and are going to lose their lives.
Before you laugh at that tweet that talks about the draft or whatever ask yourself: are you laughing because it's funny? or are you laughing because you're safe and comfortable in the West and it's not a direct problem for you?
this is my personal view but with the rise of all these apps for us to showcase aspects of ourselves our style our face our opinions on books movies shows playlists instagram twitter tumblr tiktok letterboxd goodreads spotify I feel as if every single aspect of oneâs personality has to be cohesive we must showcase that we have good taste we read good books we watch good movies everything we do is up to some weird standard idk it feels like everything we do has to be digestable to other people and we are all putting on silly hats everyday and putting on a show like we have to have opinions on everything those opinions must somehow be linked to how we dress and what music we listen to the point where we have people being so fearful of being seen as having bad taste or being seen enjoying something that isnât well liked idk man this is a lot I just feel like we werenât meant to live these weird curated lives like existing liking weird ass music and bad movies with no plot like what must we even market ourselves to be desireable and like perfect in every aspect
âThat's the power of literature, you know, it can act like little love letters between two people who can only explain their feelings by pointing at other people's.â

But...I am them all. They are all me.
âFirst of all,â I [January] said, ââBridget fucking Jonesâ is an ongoing series. It is literally the worst example you could have chosen to prove that point. Itâs the antithesis of the oversimplified and inaccurate stereotype of the genre. It does exactly what I aim to do: it makes its readers feel known and understood, like their stories - womenâs stories - matter.â
Oh, this book. I wrote all my feelings about it and my own personal writing struggles on my blog.
