Wes hΔl, and wilcume!
I made this blog because I wanted to have a place where people could ask about English literature, language, its history, media, and writing without needing to sound polished or academic first.
So this is for literary history, etymology, theory, media analysis, and practical writing help, yes, but more than that, it is for curiosity.
If there is something about a word, a form, a genre, a character type, a narrative choice, or a piece of literary history that has been sitting in your head for a while, you are welcome to bring it here.
You do not need to be a literature student, know the right terms beforehand, or even be an expert at phrasing your question perfectly. You can just ask with as much detail as you can give.
You can send me things like where a term or trope comes from, what a device is really doing on the page, why something in a story works when it works and why it falls flat when it does not, questions about POV, tone, structure, characterization, and voice, or what to read or watch if you are trying to understand a certain effect better.
I am also very happy to talk about literary history beyond a single country or canon, theory or philosophy without making it unbearable, and older or modern texts that might sharpen your own writing.
Writers, readers, artists, students, fandom people, and people who are simply curious are all equally welcome here.
One thing I especially like helping with is when someone is trying to write a particular kind of character or perspective and needs existing texts or media that can help them understand the emotional logic, pressure, or shape of it a little better.
Adult or heavier subjects will be clearly marked and handled seriously.
This will not be a daily-posting blog, but I will answer what I can, when I can.
So if there is something you have been wanting to ask and never quite had a place for, my ask box is open.
