theo van gogh was the one who suggested that his older brother vincent start seriously painting. as soon as theo was gainfully employed he gave vincent around 15% of his own yearly salary for art supplies, lodging, and food. about 2/3rds of vincent's surviving letters were to theo (including vincent's earliest and last letters), all of which were found stored in theo's desk. theo's child, vincent willem, was born on january 31st, 1890, and vincent was so delighted by his nephew that he painted almond blossoms for him. vincent shot himself half a year later on july 29th, 1890. theo's distress at his brother's death worsened his syphilis symptoms and he died half a year after his brother on january 25th, 1891 (four days before vincent willem's first birthday). theo was reburied next to vincent in auvers-sur-oise at the request of theo's wife johanna.
Almond Blossoms, 1890, Vincent van Gogh
And that love lived on Theo's wife, Johanna, who was the one who pushed for the preservation of Vincent's paintings. Johanna who made sure that her husband's beloved brother would not be forgotten. Johanna who fought tooth and nail so that Theo and Vincent would never be forgotten. Johanna who carried the family legacy, who made sure that the works of Vincent would be kept in her possession. And then Vincent Willem, named for a uncle so loved, carried this legacy and founded the Van Gogh museum in Amsterdam.
The van Gogh family history is deeply interwoven with love. It was the love of a brother that gave a young man the courage to paint and the resources to do so. It was the love of a woman for her husband and her husband's beloved brother that made that story known. And it was the love of a nephew, who was so deeply loved even if for such a short time, that made it possible for the world to know Vincent van Gogh.
Yes, the aid arrived. A few trucks entered… the world saw it. Yes, famine has “partially” retreated. We no longer eat grass every day; now we share crumbs of bread among children who gain more weight in their graves than in their bodies.
But the genocide has not stopped—it has only grown more skilled, more inventive: Homes are crushed under tanks, children are collected in bags, families erased from the records, and people driven into the desert as if they were excess dust.
Today, the occupation is not content with the siege; it declares ownership of Gaza as though it were a war trophy.
Guys, Palestine has not survived, Gaza has not been saved, and the massacres are still being written here… in shattered homes and the blood of children.
Please, do not stop talking about Gaza—about our wounds, our suffering, our ongoing displacement. We can no longer endure this alone. We need your voices, your support, your standing with us. Do not leave us to suffer, to be killed, to be uprooted from our land.
I am Zeina, an eleven-year-old girl, living with my family of six in this living nightmare. We are in pain, starving, and losing our sense of safety every day. We need you now more than ever… please, do not leave us alone.

nesma @nesmaah asked me to make a post about her sister's campaign to try to evacuate herself and her three children from gaza. nesma's campaign has been verified by sayruq, nabulsi, el-shab-hussein, and ibtisams and this is her sister's campaign which she told me about directly over whatsapp.
dina's three children are noor, who is 7, omar, who is 5, and farah, who was born during the genocide. at the time of posting, only 180 dollars canadian have been donated to her campaign!!! these are young children in extreme danger, with the harsh conditions being most dangerous to small bodies. all of them having gotten sick from the pollution and unsanitary state of the refugee camps, noor most of all. they need your help!
Hello everyone, I have created this campaign on behalf of Dina and her thr… Simran K needs your support for Help Dina and her children survi
please remember no donation is too small, especially with how little the campaign has raised even the minimum donation amount of 5 CAD will raise the total by a relatively significant amount.

i don't know how to phrase this but it feels so horrible seeing palestinians having to request strangers here for donations. they are having to put photos of their kids in hopes that it tugs the heartstrings of someone who sees it and then donates to them.
we've seen nearly 20 months of genocide and we've lost so many thousand people from gaza. i genuinely do not understand anyone who doesn't feel genuine heartache and grief for palestine.
gaza was so full of life and light. it physically hurts to see the aftermath of the destruction led by the occupation. homes and schools and hospitals and parks are all rubble now.
despite all this death and destruction, palestinians are trying to survive and maintain hope for the future.
i request you to donate to alaa amsse, a mother of two young children. she is fundraising to feed her family and take care of basic necessities. there is a famine and she needs firewood to keep her family warm. her fundraiser has been verified.
please help her and her family by donating

RIP, "The Man of the Hole." We never knew your date of birth or name.
And after what we did to you, we didn't deserve to.
The last member of an uncontacted indigenous group in Brazil had lived in total isolation for decades.
The Man of the Hole was the sole survivor of an Indigenous tribe that was genocided by Brazilian settlers in the 1970s, the other survivors of his tribe were killed by illegal miners in 1996 leaving him the last of his people. From that point on he lived in complete isolation for over two decades. He survived by hunting and gathering and moving around frequently, he left a deep hole in each of his homes for unknown purposes, hence the title that was given to him. It remains completely unknown who his people were, what language they spoke or what his name was.
His story is similar to that of Ishi an Indigenous man whose people were entirely exterminated during the california genocide, he lived in isolation for decades and no one knew his real name. And with him dying so did his people.
The story of the Man of the Hole brings to the forefront the ongoing genocide of the Indigenous peoples of Brazil. And the many perils they face.
For those who don't know, Rafah Crossing is closed. Meaning Palestinians in the Gaza Strip are technically not allowed to go into Egypt through Rafah Crossing (with exceptions, like holding a foreign passport) so in order to evacuate, Palestinians need to bribe Egyptian border security officials. The standard price used to be about $5000 - 7000 per person but some Palestinians have been told to pay $10,000 per person just to cross the border, forget other expenses like food and boarding.
For a group of people who are enduring genocide and the complete destruction of their homes that money is impossible to raise without the help of fundraising. That and the collapse of the UNRWA is the reason you're seeing so many Gofundmes nowadays. The entire aid system is gone with the exception of local aid organisations that have limited reach.
So if you see a credible fundraiser, please at the very least share it so it can reach more people. This list by @el-shab-hussein is a good place to start.

it is so incredibly sad to constantly see kids on instagram and tiktok who are younger than my brother have to literally beg for shelter, food, water, medicine, and their right to exist as human beings
i mean, this young girl is only ten years old, yet she is essentially responsible for convincing random people scrolling through instagram that her and her family’s life are worth fighting for
on top of that, their gofundme is not even 10% funded and time is running out, please if you can’t donate, just share
please don’t let this little girl die begging

because people are saying "germany has banned irish" or even "germany says the irish arent white" (literally please learn how to read): this is about the occupy against occupation camp for palestine in front of the bundestag and only affects the camp and surrounding areas. doesnt make it any better but the state or city have not just banned a language period and yes you can travel to berlin and speak your mother tongue
but why are they doing this? there are now so many protests and gathering for palestine around the city that the cops simply do not have enough translators to check if anything illegal or anticonstitutional is being said in arabic (and now in any other language because the protests are getting bigger and berlin is a very multinational country), but its not like they did only accurate translations before, they kept accusing people of saying things they did not say to denounce the protestors of course so its not like they are so interested in accurately following and representing the speeches and music on the camp site but its a requirement they got from the interior ministry for constitution protection nonetheless. they allowed arabic after 6pm that day because thats probably when they got to book a translator/get an arabic speaking cop on site.

the stuff going on at columbia campus rn is genuinely incredible
despite mass arrests by NYPD and several students (including rep ilhan omar’s daughter, isra hirsi) being suspended for their participation and having their university identification deactivated, the gaza solidarity encampment is still going strong well into its second day. def recommend following independent reporter talia jane who is taking part and providing live updates. (talia was the first reporter to break aaron bushnell’s self immolation in february; she was one of the reporters he contacted personally prior to the protest.)
thank you so much alexa @shivsblunt for mentioning it…..anyone who wants to contribute to their jail support fund can do so @ bcabolitioncollective on v*nmo. also, if anyone is in the area and available to join (via cssw4palestine on ig):

Nothing is more devastating than this. The UN World Food Program has officially suspended aid delivery to northern Gaza, citing violence and lack of safety as major reasons the aid trucks aren’t getting through. Israeli officers are liberally shooting at Palestinians who try to approach the trucks in hopes of getting even the smallest morsels of food, despite the fact that Israel has allowed only one crossing for the already woefully low numbers of aid they’re permitting entry. Reportedly this number has fallen from 140 a day in January to just 60 a day this month, and now 16% of all Gazan children under 2 are “acutely malnourished.” Meanwhile, the US vetoes a call for a ceasefire for the third fucking time. It’s so inhumane in its cruelty it’s actually shocking to see it being allowed to go on and on, and on an international level no less.
It also just broke a day ago that Israeli officers are arbitrarily detaining Palestinian girls and women, denying them medicine and menstruation products, keeping them in cages during the rain and cold, beating them, and raping them. And not only are Israeli officers doing this, but they’re literally uploading it online. It was also reported that Israel is purposefully separating children from their parents. And just in case zionists argue this is biased or sensationalized journalism, this was literally disclosed through a UN report.
You’re soulless scum if you see all this happening and still cry Hamas. You are the last person on this earth who deserves to live while all these innocents die in such brutal, horrific ways. You do not deserve to live.
Special shoutout to the Israeli protestors who’ve been blocking aid to southern Gaza in the meanwhile. It really needs to be highlighted that it’s not only the Israeli government that breeds genocidal maniacs. A lot of Israelis simply don’t see Palestinians as people—and the US vetoing a ceasefire has all but validated that belief.
