And then here, he takes his hat off ;;w;;;; and grabs her wrist. Gahhh just bury me with this ship plz. And the look of shame on his face because, like you said, he realized he hurt Nene!! 

And the shame is so deep, he can’t even meet her eyes~

AND PULLING HER AGAINST HIS CHEST AND TELLING HER TO STAY HERE UNTIL SHE’S DONE CRYING HDFGJDFGJDF I love this arc so much

Below are a few more little vulnerable HanaNene moments

^^^ This scene Hanako is literally so vulnerable!! Admitting that was the first time a girl has ever said that to him ;w;; 

AND BEING FLUSTERED AFTER NENE KISSES HIM AHHHHH, SO VULNERABLE!! AND A SIDE TO HANAKO THAT NO ONE WILL EVER BECAUSE HE’S ALL YOURS NENE >:D

gAHHHH AND THEN HANAKO IS SO GENTLE WITH HER AFTER SHE STARTS CRYING FROM THE AWKWARD SILENCE—BECAUSE NENE MISTOOK HIS FLUSTERNESS AS A BAD THING—When really Hanako was just internally dying sgdfshfdsh just like me

AND HERE WE HAVE HANAKO LITERALLY CRYING BECAUSE HE WANTS NENE TO LIVE, BUT WHEN HE WAS WITH KOU HE WAS ALL LIKE “IDC IF NENE DIES BECAUSE IM DED” 

And then the softest smile ever ahhhhhhh 

Okay, so I think Hanako doesn’t know how Nene feels for him in that scene you refer to because:

Nene is quick to say “As a friend” and “You’re not my type” and we get to see Hanako “slump,” disappointed. 

So, actually, I think that perhaps, this scene was the moment Hanako realized he feels something more than friendship towards Nene, because we see him blush and have stars in his eyes as he stares up at Nene. And, also, because then it’s brought up again a little later: 

Meaning that it really was a significant moment for him that she said that. And then we move onto the next few arcs, where Hanako’s feelings become more and more obvious imo.

^^^ Such as here, Hanako is flat out flirting with Nene; visiting her in class because he missed her and couldn’t wait for her to come to the bathroom later, and trying to get her to admit she was lonely without him, and then admitting that he was worried over her, while Nene said she was only worried over Kou. 

So to me, Hanako doesn’t know what Nene feels for him. And even the chapter where Nene kisses Hanako, she was bragging about a love letter and being happy that someone has confessed to her (even though we learn it wasn’t for her). So she sort of gives off very mixed emotions.

Now moving onto Picture Perfect arc!

^^^ So here’s when Hanako tricks Nene into admitting she likes him. But the thing is, with this scene, I don’t think it’s something Hanako can take as meaning she likes him romantically because he did trick her, after all. And he asks her on the date right after, but Nene never did get a chance to say yes or no to the date because Hanako runs off. 

^^^ Then here, Amane asks if he’s really that similar to Hanako, and Nene lists off all the annoying things Hanako does. But her facial expression and the slight blush looks almost wistful, and we can tell she finds all of Hanako’s traits to be rather endearing, and she finally admits that she likes him. 

And Hanako’s face after she admits it, we see he’s blushing as well and his mouth is slightly open...(I wonder if he feels guilty that he’s pretending to not be Hanako?)

But again, we have Nene preface the “I like him” statement with “I don’t hate him” So it’s sort of like her earlier confession, isn’t it? Where she just says she likes him because she doesn’t hate him XD

But then we have this scene ^^^, where Amane asks Nene if she really doesn’t like it here in this fake world (unbeknownst to her, Hanako created to keep her alive).

Nene, with a blush on her face, says the reason why she doesn’t like it here is because “The person I like isn’t here.”

To me, finally we have a clearcut confession from Nene because if it were a platonic, wouldn’t she say “My friend isn’t here?” instead of “the person I like isn’t here?” 

And then Amane pushes her further by asking if the person she likes looks like him, and we see Nene’s face turn bright red and look a bit flustered, and says “you want to hear me say it again” XD

So I think Hanako finally got his confirmation that Nene does like-like him. 

And now this brings me to the recent chapter, where Aoi calls Hanako Nene’s crush! 

When Nene denies saying it, Hanako is shocked XD And I think it’s because after all the confessions in Picture Perfect arc, for Nene to deny that she ever said he’s her crush, it gives Hanako mixed signals yet again XD
