Okay finally finished binging Dragon Striker and I normally take notes on all my thoughts on it so I'll put some of my main ones on here.
Spoilers ahead for the first 11 episodes
Watching it reminded me a lot of the Owl House towards the beginning, but as I continued to watch it I can definitely respect as it own thing. I remember thinking specifically was the concept of the banners and spacific tamas but I do respect the uniqueness of the story.
I didn't really like that every single team goes to the same school I feel like it's cool in theory until you realize how small that makes the world building feel In general. Like the most popular sport in this world only has 4 teams and one school to play professionally? It feels very forced.
The soundtrack is absolutely incredible I think I said this before but I do love the song choice i hope they release the series album. The last time I felt this compelled to listen to more was probably either Win or Lose or Spiderverse.
i love the explicity of the queer relationships of the story especially with Odward and Casper THEIR SCENE IN EP 11 ACTUALLY MADE ME SO EMOTIONAL I'M NOT GONNA LIE (and ssyelle and the roses captain was a fun duo to play with)
Sugoi and Edina!?? I literally want to write an essay on them but like I'll give y'all the cliff notes. Firstly you can't convince me Sugoi wasn't in love with her because that's just not going to happen but more importantly... Sugoi has internalized this perfect idealized version of Edina that she feels the need to project on to Key which just hurts so much to watch. Especially the "why can't you be more like her" she's not trying to replace Edina with Key, but she just wants her back so much. I hope we get to spend more than one episode with the focus on her frustration especially in tandem with Key's dad maybe another Mr. Greg situation. But I actually more so compared Key and Sugoi's relationship to that of Rumi and Celine and I really want to see more of it.
Oh also Edina definitely blew up the moon I mean I'm assuming that was what the flashback was about. I noted another one of my critiques as like the important plot beats were too predictable. Like there were a bunch of times I'd be like "oh I know exactly where this is going" which can be so annoying while watching two 20 minute episodes of the characters realizing the exact same thing I did an hour before.
Oh also random thought the twins on the bards reminded me a lot of like an evil Ed and Em which i just thought was cool so...
and yeah those were my main things I might make another post later though. The show seem actually really fun and different and I'm terrified that as soon as I post this we're getting another cancellation, and I hate to wish the worst on shows but like there's been a pattern with Disney. These lasts few years and I said the same thing about moon go and the owl house and most of the interesting stories, so I've kind of stopped getting my hopes up. Either way though, I'm excited to see where this show goes!
