I can't even believe how long it's been. I'm probably not going to keep writing too many fics, if any at all. But this one's mandatory. And short.

Summary: headcannons on the sleeping habits of (some of) the grishaverse characters.

Alina Starkov

Hear me out

The girl's out like a light

Exactly the type of person to roll around the bed, end up in peculiar positions, and mainly, accidentally slap you or kick you in her sleep

Isn't picky, but if she COULD choose- only the softest mattress, duvet and pillows

She's petty like that

Has absolutely no night routine. Like. NONE.

Owns no pajamas. Just normal clothes passing as sleep clothes.

Gonna use her sun summoner powers when getting up in the middle of the night to fetch water etc., only to curse profusely because ✨light sensitivity✨

Midnight snacks. No elaboration is needed.

Definitely owns a stag plushie. Cause poor thing.

Mal Oretsev

Sleeps like he's in a coffin

No honestly. Like, on his back, straight as a plank. Psychopath.

The nightmares tho.

The biggest duvet stealer

Never actually uses the duvet tho. Kicks it away every time

Can barely be bothered to change

Absolutely cannot be bothered to make the bed

Hasn't got a single idea how to put on a bedsheet

Red flag: eats in bed too often

Occasionally has a dream about Nikolai throwing him overboard Volkvolny and grinning down at him, saints know why.

Would fall asleep under any circumstance. Light, loud sounds, anything. Bang two pans repeatedly next to his head, and the guy will still fall asleep if he's sure he can afford to.

Has a phoenix plushie. Pun intended.

A side sleeper

Surprisingly heavy sleeper

Rarely sleeps in bed when unsupervised tho. Not uncommon for him to fall asleep in a chair.

Black silk sheets only.

Talks in his sleep

Seriously.

If someone walked in on him sleeping, he'd be long since executed for treason.

Absolutely unaffected by caffeine

Produces a whole lotta shadows before going to sleep, roused by the slightest amount of light.

The extensive night routine is canon.

Doesn't have a plushie. The only one in this hc series btw.

Nikolai Lantsov

A stomach sleeper. We stan.

A pillow hugger. We stan.

Mostly blue bedding, especially in the palace or the spinning wheel, since we all know he misses the sea.

Another one with a whole-ass night routine.

Reduced amount of clothes when sleeping- usually just pants

Has some trouble falling asleep on land, he's used to the rocking of the ship

Kaz: He says it’s Sweeney Todd, but it’s actually Heathers. His childhood favorite was the Newsies movie musical (which he prefers over the stage musical). He cried at Hadestown and his friends were nice enough not to point it out (much).

Inej: Hadestown. (She brought Kaz.) She also enjoys Natasha, Pierre & the Great Comet of 1812 (minus the outdated language about Romani).

Jesper: His childhood favorite was The Wiz but now it’s Hamilton. He and Nina know all the words to La Vie Boheme from Rent, and he knows the lyrics to most of the rest of the show too. He prefers Lippa’s Wild Party.

Wylan: His favorite alternates between Next to Normal, The Light in the Piazza, and Sunday in the Park with George. He prefers La Chiusa’s Wild Party (what he calls “the good one”).

Nina: She genuinely loves Wicked. Matthias bought her and Zoya tickets to go see the movie in theatres together. She also enjoys Lucky Stiff, Six, Legally Blonde, and Chicago.

Matthias: He claims to not have a favorite and to not know many musicals. His favorites are actually The Sound of Music and Mama Mia.

The Darkling: The Phantom of the Opera (in the most red-flag way possible).

Alina: It alternates between Disney’s The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Disney’s Beauty and the Beast.

Mal: West Side Story, but Sweeney Todd is second. He also loves Les Mis. The Sound of Music was his childhood favorite.

Genya: The German-language musical Elisabeth, but she also loves Beauty and the Beast and Into The Woods.

David: A tie between Sunday in the Park with George and Evita. He also adores The Drowsy Chaperone and Candide.

Zoya: Six, but she also enjoys The Scarlet Pimpernel and Sweeney Todd.

Nikolai: Hedwig and the Angry Inch is his all-time favorite, but other favorites include The Pirates of Penzance, The Scarlet Pimpernel, Footloose, and Back to the Future. (He loves musicals, though, so he knows and enjoys a lot of them. He and Zoya attend many Broadway shows and were at the opening of Death Becomes Her.)

i wanna see inej be tiny (4’11 AT MOST). i wanna see her with actually brown skin, not just slightly darker white. i wanna see her with the broad shoulders and thick thighs and all the musculature of a trained gymnast. i wanna see her with hair slicked back with tons of gel and hairspray like a dancer. i wanna see her with a flat chest and little to no curves (as was described in the books). i wanna see her with calluses on her hands and feet.

i wanna see nina be tall (around 5’11). i wanna see her with fat rolls. i wanna see her with wide hips and a chest that gives her back pain. i wanna see her with flabby underarms and stretch marks on her legs and torso. i wanna see her with central heterochromatic eyes. i wanna see her with the body language of someone who was trained to be a soldier since childhood. i wanna see her with wavy but not curly hair. i wanna see her with beauty marks scattered all over her body.

i wanna see matthias be reasonably tall (6’0-6’3). i wanna see him with big muscles, especially on his upper half. i wanna see him with light skin and even lighter hair. i wanna see him with battle scars and wolf bite scars. i wanna see him with burn scars from the fire that destroyed his village. i wanna see him with a triangular shoulder-to-waist ratio. i wanna see him with the faintest of faint freckles across the bridge of his nose.
