Summary:

His eyes had always been fixed on the twine, on the two jerseys hanging from the rafters. Sometimes the numbers blurred, Marleau’s 12 becoming a 2. Instead of Thornton with the C, it was Celebrini. Even his passing lanes weren’t his own anymore. They all led to his north star, to the white 71 on the other side of the ice. Will didn't know where he ended and Mack started. He hadn’t known for a long time. He didn’t know what else he could give.

Summary:

Mack didn’t know what to do. He couldn’t pluck it out of the sky, couldn't cover Will’s eyes and whisper sweet nothings until it was just them under an endless blue; just them, and a thousand tomorrows. He couldn’t, because then he would fail and everything would become real. or: Mack, Will, stupid media questions, and an end-of-the-world road trip (kinda).

since people are asking for microstats, here they are.

Being this high at a young age while matched against the opposing team’s top players is incredible. No surprises for Celebrini, he's great at everything. The graphs prove Smith isn't getting carried by Celebrini offensively – he would appear in the bottom left quadrants or top left/bottom right a lot if that were true since the graphs measure individual traits.

Smith is likely going to be a superstar soon and is currently one of the most dangerous passers in the NHL (more dangerous than Celebrini) and top 3 with MacKinnon and Kucherov for generating both high danger passes and shots. Smith needs to increase his frequency of controlled zone entries (puck transporting), but when he does carry the puck into the o-zone, he’s decent at creating a scoring chance from the entry (play driving)."

Do not get ragebaited by the fools that cannot use their eyes. the data backs it up, and we will see when the time comes that Will Smith is awesome with or without Mack.
