"I know I have to go to Eywa now..." Spider closes his eyes, thinking of Home—
floating mountains. glowing spirit trees. lush green brush. canopies full of life... but also four, now three, smiling faces he called his own. his siblings. Lo'ak, Kiri, Tuk. Awa'atlu. the band on his arms. bright beaches and warm sand. glowing anemone
—a sob hiccups past his lips with a breath. He wants to go home. he just wants to go home. to be given to Eywa, not buried out here to slowly rot into her roots. he doesn't need a grand funeral. doesn't need one at all. he just wants to go home.
"you'll take me home right? please—" he all but whispers it, voice cracking as his mind flashes with memories of Neteyam. he asked to go home too. he meant the forest. Spider just means his siblings. his family. all the comfort he has ever known. "I'm sorry, please, I know, I know he said— but please... don't leave me out here. I'm sorry... I just want to go home. you'll take me home?"
he's panicking. he doesn't want to be left here. he can't imagine making Jake and Neytiri carry his body all the way back to Awa'atlu, but... but he doesn't want to be alone out here. and he knows he's probably reminding Jake of Neteyam, of his actual son. but he needs to ask.
"please I just want to go home, I don't want to be alone"
Jake's hand tightens around the blade. the boy isn't even begging for his life anymore. he just wants to go home. doesn't want to be abandoned again.
"of course, boy, we'll... we're going home." He'd said those words before. a white lie then. Jake didn't know if it was the same now. didn't know if he could hold the boy he murdered in his arms for that long flight home. present him to his children. admit to what he had done. he didn't know if he could ask Neytiri to allow Spider to be buried in her forest by their own hands. but he would say it.
"I love you," the boy murmured, leaning closer to the blade now, still afraid by putting on a brave face. Eywa, Jake didn't deserve to hear those words. but he knows the boy needs to feel like he has someone to love and be loved by, "I'm really sorry," what did he have to feel sorry for?
"you're alright boy. you're alright."
