Steps 1:
Before you begin the Sing Alone, click on the links below to understand the context of the word or phrase.
When you understand the word or phrase, try to visual it. Then begin the song. Unconsciously you will recognize that even though you are hearing Japanese your brain still understands the song. The words will be hard to follow, but you still be able to follow along the song .As you repeat the song over time you will begin to hear the words more clearly, instead of a lot of BLAH BLAH BLAH. In no time you will be humming the songs in your head.
Always associate Japanese words/Romaji with real situations, for example:
When you think if a cat, your brain sees this
Later when you go to school, we are taught that
When you hear the word : ネコ (neko) in our sing along, try to visualize an actual cat and not the WORD cat in your native language. The song will reinforce the word by showing and sounding the word cat = (neko) (visual & auditory reinforcement) .Over time you will remap your mind to associate neko with a actual cat.
Focus on LISTENING!
Stop focusing on Kanji and sentence construction. Children speak fluently without any knowledge of sentence rules and they achieve all of that before they even enter kindergarten. They LISTEN and made connections of various sounds they hear to make sentences. Our Picture Dictionary and Phrase Dictionary follow the same principle.
Step 2:
if you want to learn the word Throw/pitch, say “ Bōru o nagemasu” as you preform the action.
The the Dictionary verb flashcards depicts various actions:
ボールを投げます: Bōru o nagemasu
Ever time you wash your hands say “Te o arau” as your preform the tasks.
手を洗う: Te o arau
I can assure you, after 5-10 times you try the suggestions above. You will notices the brain remapping taking effect.
This method is much better than memorizing words.
Step 3:
The Picture Dictionary is the building block for the Phrase dictionary.
窓 : Mado
見て : mite
ください : kudasai

窓の外を見てください。 : Mado no soto o mite kudasai.
