fandom: daiya
pairing: furuharu
summary: furuya doesn't lack talent, it's more of interest he's missing. or the one where furuya's art teacher despairs until he finds a solution
note: inspired by s1 ep71 end card. this one is a super quick drabble done in between episode marathoning so it's un-beta'd any mistakes pointed out would be appreciated!!
also on ao3
Furuya doesn't necessarily lack talent. There's an intense single-mindedness to him that lends excellence to the things he wants to do.
It's the case for basic perspective drawings, or still life sketches, or anything and everything the teacher for this class has ever tasked the students to put on paper. Furuya isn't interested in buildings or plant life. He isn't quite interested in the people around him. So during art classes, his exercises are mostly struggling towards mediocrity.
And in a fit of desperation where the teacher just wants some sort of improvement, he tells his class that they can draw anything they wanted. Anything at all.
The most realistic sketch of a polar bear that greets him as he grades the art papers stuns him enough that for a moment he cannot read the name sketched out on the top corner. He cannot believe the name written there at all.
And it's not just a fluke. Any and all exercises that he puts forth, as long as he allows polar bears to be the subject comes out impressive, a huge leap from the squiggly lines and subpar sketches from before.
He doesn't understand this gap in skill and whenever he does deviate from polar bears it just goes back to the same old six year old artwork that he's familiar with.
But as much as he would love to let Furuya draw polar bears until the end of the school year, he can't. There has to be some sort of variety.
So he tries one of the old sketch a partner exercises he's done before but this time doesn't assign partners at all. He lets the class draw anyone they know. Some opt for friends outside of class and others partner up naturally. He gives them a two-day deadline and hopes for the best.
When he grades the submitted artwork again, he's surprised to see Kominato in casual clothes, batting a ball. It looks so lifelike that he feels like he can hear as the ball collides with the bat, the frozen moment of movement of Kominato's arms swinging, his body twisting along, feet braced apart for balance. Kominato's face is partly in view, the play of shadow and light on it subtle even in pencil.
He remembers the first time Furuya had to draw someone else and it turning out like nothing resembling a person. Then he looks at the rendered sketch of Kominato and wonders what sets this boy and polar bears apart.
It comes to him the next day when he notices that Furuya comes to class with Kominato. It's not unusual since they're from the same club and he knows they have morning practice but now he's actually looking, observing in a way he hasn't before. There's a closeness to them that requires a second look to notice— the camaraderie of playing sports and becoming friends is his first guess but then he notices an odd sort of singular focus Furuya has on Kominato as his friend speaks and the split second reluctance that it takes before he moves away when they have to take their seats.
And then he gets it.
Furuya doesn't lack for talent at all. Interest, though, is another problem entirely.
Now he's just found out what interest Furuya most: polar bears and one Kominato Haruichi.
He probably could find a way to work that into his exercises, he supposes.
I know I may be preaching to the choir with a lot of you, but I feel like it bears saying again. Please support Iffy and buy Amnesia - the steam version is 40% off right now, that’s a crazy cheap price for the amount of content that the game has and the work that Iffy put into trying to port the game to so many different places where it will be accessible to so many fans. There is absolutely no reason for people to be pirating the game.
Now that otome games are gaining recognition and popularity and the amount of releases in 2015 has increased exponentially as opposed to years past, I feel like it’s more important than ever that fans show support for the official releases. If we want to see more games like Amnesia brought over, we need to show Iffy that there’s a market for them.
To the people who have supported the game, thank you so much! I hope you will continue to support otome releases in English. I know I will be buying both Code: Realize and Norn9 when they release as well!
Sorry, this is just really important! Otome games, especially the VN types, are still a pretty niche genre and while pirating games might not be unusual for you (I’m not judging you for that, we do it all at some point) it’s really, really important that you don’t for this game. Amnesia is Iffy’s way of testing the waters for this market and even though we can end up thinking that, “hey, I’m just one person, someone else will buy this, it won’t make a difference if I just pirate it” then please stop. It will make a difference. You’re a part of that difference. You’re part of the target market and if you don’t help by buying it, then it’s the same as being silent when Iffy asks “does anyone want this game?”. And silence for that particular question usually means no.
It won’t matter if you make petitions, if you blog desperately about wanting this otoge localized or if you make communities and groups saying you want an otoge localized, if you don’t back up your words with money, it won’t count. I know that it sounds mercenary, or even a bit tasteless but we have to understand that Iffy is still a business and money is an all important voice to them. So put your money where your mouth is. Tell Iffy with your money that you’ll be there to support them for games like Amnesia. Don’t let them think this gaming genre is just a blackhole.
Don’t pirate the game!! Buy it on Steam or on PSN for the Vita. The Steam copy is on sale until September 1, so if you don’t have much money that’s the better option.

Hey! I managed to translate two adorable comics featuring Tsukki, Yamaguchi, a cultural festival, and one of them in a skirt. Since the strips are long I had to split them into pieces. You can find the full images here and here. Enjoy!
BELOW IS THE HARVEST MOON GAME YOU SHOULD WAIT FOR AND BUY:
In Japan, Story of Seasons is Bokujou Monogatari, which is where our Harvest Moon games have always come from. See that XSEED logo down there on the box though? Natsume is no longer localizing Bokujou Monogatari titles here, and has thrown a giant hissy fit about it.
THIS IS NOT HARVEST MOON AS YOU KNOW AND LOVE IT. IT’S SOME KIND OF SOUL-LESS MINECRAFT RIP OFF WITH SHITTY MARRIAGE CHOICES AND DLC
This game is set to release before Story of Seasons, probably in a blatant attempt to take advantage of consumers who have no idea that Harvest Moon is truly not Harvest Moon anymore.
OP is not exaggerating. Marvelous! is the Japanese company that officially owns the Harvest Moon series. Natsume handled the English localization from 1998 until Harvest Moon: A New Beginning. XSeed is a subsidiary of Marvelous! in the US. The official Harvest Moon series is now called the Story of Seasons. Natsume still owns the Harvest Moon trademark, and will continue to develop the series independently of Marvelous!.
ANY FUTURE HARVEST MOON GAMES LOCALIZED BY NATSUME ARE NOT OFFICIAL HARVEST MOON GAMES.
Here are some screenshots from The Lost Valley
And here are screenshots from Story of Seaons
As most Harvest Moon fans can tell, Story of Seasons looks more like the natural progression the series has taken in terms of graphics and characterization. The Lost Valley looks like a cheap spin-off.
I won’t tell you how to spend your money, but the advice is to invest in XSeed’s Story of Seasons.
And even if you’re not in the Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons games, please reblog this so that those who are can know what’s up.

nani was NINETEEN and such a fucking badass who was so protective of lilo and just ROLLED with aliens being a thing towards the end of the movie. #1 Disney relative of all time.
I have honestly been waiting AGES for the right gifset to express the wonderful perfection that is Nani. She is not only protective of Lilo, she respects the way Lilo’s imagination and quirkiness works.
Pudge the fish got a peanut butter sandwich every Thursday. Nani does not argue the logic of feeding him, only suggests an alternative sandwich when they are out of peanut butter. Lilo was allowed to take as many photos of whatever mundane or odd subjects as she wanted and Nani would get them developed. Nani recognized what were important habits for Lilo.
When Lilo asks for a pet lobster, Nani does not tell her that lobsters are not pets. She tells her, “We don’t have a lobster door, we have a dog door.” She makes sure the woman at the pound does not tell Lilo that “Stitch is not a real name”.
NANI SPENDS THE ENTIRE MOVIE MAKING SURE THAT LILO NEVER FEELS LIKE HER IDEAS ARE WRONG.
The only time we truly see Nani get angry with Lilo is when she is scared of Lilo being taken away. Nani spends the entire movie stressed out over taking care of her sister, trying to find a job, trying to make sure her sister has a friend, and yet she is always willing to put that extra effort, over and over again, to make sure that Lilo always believes that anything is possible.
This is a great moment because she probably *remembered* that Lilo said this once. And you know what? Shes not ending this day by letting her little sister think this is her fault. She’s not having an easy time trying to be a parent, but she knows none of this is her sisters fault, and shes not going to let her think it is.
And half of her terror of losing Lilo isnt even just losing her family; its knowing that wherever Lilo goes, they won’t know how to do these things. They won’t understand her.
Casual reminder that the reason Lilo obsessively feeds the fish is because her parents died in a rainstorm and she firmly believes Pudge controls the weather. If you pay attention to the feeding sequence you will notice that storm clouds recede and dissipate, a visual narrative that confirms this.
It’s not just a habit. It’s a very real part of Lilo’s healing process and Nani understands that.
Also if you pay attention to Nani’s room you’ll notice she had surfing posters and trophies. She was very much on her way to being a pro surfer but had to give it up to become the adult Lilo needed her to be.
And not ONCE does Nani show her sister any resentment. It’s worth it to keep her family together. This is a young woman who is willing to sacrifice all of her dreams and make incredibly grown up decisions.
What I am saying is Nani is the best disney princess of all time. Disney Queen even.
