a divot forms between his brows. he's not fucking doing this . he loves jack too much; is too easy to manipulate, & jack takes full advantage . kent knows how to play hockey, but in relationships, he's always playing the losing side, giving too little too late, enabling jack's addictions & cataloguing all the warning signs as love. whether he knows it or not, jack takes full advantage - it's ridiculous.

there's just something wrong with jack's head; kent's stopped trying to examine. that's only a step better than drowning himself in jack & all of his maladaptive coping - kent's aware, he's not an addict yet, but he knows his vices. he could be one.

winchesters never play by the rules. in fact, he finds himself more at ease in the midst of risk & chaos. ever since the shape-shifter debacle in st. louis, dean's been on the fbi database for murder. he could afford to be a little more cautious, yet it's been years; their affable approach with authorities & the wide array of fake cards keeps him flying under the radar. however, graham's a little too perceptive for his own good. dean knows that look. it's subtle, but dean's intuition has been honed sharp enough to cut. ironically, the years of hypervigilance are coming in handy.

his gloved palms are deep in a cavity, inspecting the damaged tissue & searching for a missing liver with a ginger touch. the body hasn't been out for long - not more than one or two days, according to dispatch - yet the body is ravaged in a way that animal attacks & the elements can't quite explain. the more time he spends on the investigation, the more sure dean is that the case can't be anything but supernatural.

fuck him for talking such a big game. virgin. don't see you putting in the work, kent wants to snap, but he'd rather take the reins for this one. holds onto landry's shoulders in a death grip, knuckles white as he shifts his hips uneasily, testing the blunt pressure against his opening. mouth parts around a soft pant as the desire for it mounts; a stagnant dewdrop, finally heavy enough to roll.

shoots a glare from up under his sweaty fringe. " i'm not shy. " he grits out, trying to focus. " you're bigger than i expected, & ... " he thinks back to fervid nights, the rush of inexperience & heat of being with someone he thought he loved. closes his eyes. with all the bluster of an eighteen year old, he excuses, " it's just been a while. "

there's enough lube to darken the sheets, so that the slow sink feels just shy of pain, heavy all up in his throat. cries out, when the angle & pressure starts to whelm. " ja- " swallows. rolls his hips, syrup slow to feel the full weight of him, scraping his insides. nails dig into landry's back, a ring of teeth, not breaking skin to muffle the sounds, " fuck. 's good. "

he looks up at the hockey legend, larger than life even now, skulked away & reduced under the dim bar lighting. it hits troy all at once: the sheer weight of scrutiny resting on those world - weary shoulders. hunter had weathered a path for himself despite the rigorous, unyielding expectations of the sport, so that other closeted players could follow the trail - blaze .

" i guess it's a matter of weighing the pros & cons. " the words come after some deliberation, pieced together after the liquor settles in a burn at the back of his throat. hunter's brave for taking matters in his own hands, but there's always going to be people like troy; those that don't want to make a big fuss. he doesn't want to be an icon or some grand example. he just wants to play some damn hockey.

scott hunter is a legacy. he has the contacts & sway to do as he likes. rozanov & hollander , too. but troy ?? he doesn't want to be some minor - league sellout, career cut short, quietly taken care of for being too different -- too loud. maybe when he's retired, he'll post his truth in brief. not as some grand statement, but just for his peace of mind. maybe it'd help him feel more settled in his skin. still, he doubts he'll ever stop pretending. it's pathetic, but he'll probably be pushing forty & still be jumping at all the shadows .

"No," Rafayel mutters under his breath the first time. He doesn't want to talk to Zayne. It doesn't really matter whether the doctor knew that his research was behind Ever's new breakthrough — Rafayel knows, with a single look, that he clearly doesn't. Even his question was genuine, trying to be rational, trying to calm him down, and it's maddening. "No. Unhand me." He tries to tear his wrist away, voice clearly panicked. "Don't talk to me. Don't you dare to tell me to calm down. Don't you touch me." Shadows creep and clouds the corners of his eyes. The sound of chains rattling pierces deep into his mind, and the grip on his wrist fades from warmth to something glacial and ice-cold. Zayne's voice blurs into something indistinct in the background, as if he's a thousand feet too deep in the ocean to hear his words distinctly. Tendrils of darkness curl wispily around him, drifting freely about the currents. Long nails anchor him down to the seabed, and something tells him that it's his would-be prison for centuries.  Rafayel's breath hitches. Their surroundings had been warped into something that blurs at the edges, folding itself until Zayne's muffled chokes penetrate through the haze. Rafayel pinned him against the driver’s car seat, an iron grip over his throat. He's not seeing Zayne anymore. Instead, he saw the thing that ruined him, taunted him in his nightmares and vanished before he could chase after it. It's in his hands now. And what should he do? Save it? Or put it out of its misery?

rafayel is more trouble than he's worth. he understands the shock of the revelation, but that doesn't temper his pettiness. not only did rafayel botch the surveillance mission, but zayne's had to stick his neck out for him & then get strangled on top of all else. tongue clicks in annoyance as his thoat starts to burn. a glance at rafayel slack expression & the faint illumination of his rosy eyes makes clear that he's not entirely present. zayne's not privy to the reasons behind the episodes, but he doesn't need a heart to heart. their association is strictly on a need to know basis & he prefers it that way.
