THE GASHES ON HER HEART    aged  &  covered  in  tar  -  turned  blood,  frozen  most  would  say,  starts  beating  again  now,  even  as  his  tears  jab  into  her  chest  like  a  thousand  knives.  her  stubbornness  shatters  like  a  clavicle  ‘neath  the  weight  of  his  pain  she  feels  just  as  raw,  and  all  the  guards  of  iron  she  has  put  up  so  even  she  couldn’t  touch  them,  dust  off  with  the  breeze  as  if  it  were  nothing.    ❛   you  have  been  my  partner  above  all  else.  not  my  servant.  —  though  i  feared —   ❜    the  sobs,  though  they  bubble  muted,  scratch  at  her  throat  &  rattle  her  voice  before  she  cuts  off,  her  knees  parrot,  shaking  to  nearly  buckling  yet  she  launches  forth  all  the  same.  she  moves  thunderous  like  the  tales  of  nightmares  she  adorns,  but  nothing  but  velvet  -  soft  gentleness  comes  off  it.  her  terror  yet  lay  unmatched,  the  fear  of letting  go  &  landing  with  a  scream  on  the  cold,  hard  ground,  but  so  she  does,  —— she  lets  go.     ❛   i  love  you.  i’m  in  love  with  you.   ❜      her  fingers  caress  his  skin  as  if  she  could  soothe  his  heart  with  her  touch,  her  thumbs  brush  away  his  tears  even  when  her  own  flood  rivers  still.   ❛   i  am  yours.   ❜  stern  but  fragile  still  somehow,  doe  -  like,  she  stares  up  into  the  voids  of  his  black  gaze  filled  with  universes  known  only  to  her,  his  dashing  eyes  she  has  spent  staring  into  &  finding  relief  when  she  thought  there  was  none.  her  kiss  is  skittish,  her  lips  trembling   &  wet  with  salt  as  they  press  desperately  onto  his.  it’s  different  than  the  one  she  boldly  offered  before,  this  time  laced  with  girlish  innocence,  with  numbing  worry  that  he’ll  slide  away  like  a  dream  too  sweet  to  be  true.   ❛   i’ll  be  your  wife.  i’ll  be  yours,  only  yours.  ❜    cat  -  like,  her  nose  drags  up  the  side  of  his  lip  &  nuzzles  his,  begging  for  forgiveness,  begging  to  have  him  freely  at  last.    ❛   i  love  you.    :    i  love  you.  i’m  sorry  —— ❜

THE HEALING KISS OF THE SHIMMERING     water  they  are  safely  engulfed  in  soothes  the  vicious  marks  of  scorch  on  her  skin  threaded  with  the  same  pearly  gleam.  the  moors  is  silent,  the  sorrowful  peace  that  follows  a  war  won,  but  her  heart  seems  to  not  care  as  it  drums  at  her  very  throat.  one  arm  presses  barely  against  her  breast,  the  ends  of  her  silky  hair  flows  about  it,  let  down  at  last.  she  is  taken  aback  by  the  realisation  of  blood  rushing  to  her  cheeks,  of  her  eyes  widening  and  pupils  dilating,  her  hot  breath  stuttering  &  rolling  a  mewl  down  her  tongue.  lush  lashes  remain  heavy,  but  her  grasp  around  her  dainty  figure  loosens  as  her  gaze  swallows  the  sight  of  him  unchastely.  her  hand  breaks  free  of  her  arm  it  birched  onto,  uncaring  of  what  now  lay  bare,  and  gentle  as  the  wind,  she  cups  the  side  of  his  face,  one  wing  widens  proudly,  almost  fully  enwrapping  him  in  dewed  feathers.    ❛    don’t  dare  die,  diaval.  stay  alive  for  me   —  stay  with  me.  —   ❜

THE BLINDING RUSH OF LONG-DENIED BLISS     boils  in  her  veins,  naive  almost,  as  pure  as  she  had  been  when  closing  her  eyes  to  a  sleep  that’d  taken  her  wings.  her  fingers  that  had  clutched  his  hand  to  the  paling  as  he  dragged  her  to  solitary,  now  grow  frigid  when  he  slips  away  &  fear  brutally  strikes  the  beat  of  her  pulse.    ❛    what  ?   ❜     it’s  naught  but  a  whisper,  barely  audible,  a  hiccup  of  a  cry  trapped  in  her  throat.  horrors  flow  over  her  as  timid  looking  rivers  that  swallow  deers  &  trees  whole,  salt  brims  the  gleam  of  her  greens  fallen  martyr  to  mist.     ❛    you  don’t  know  what  you  are  saying.   ❜    a  hiss.  wounded  animal.  ---  a  tremor  that  mirrors  his  entraps  her  as  a  songbird  nestless  in  winter  gust,  swollen  tears  she  has  hardly  kept  at  bay  with  helpless  heavy  blinks  stream  down  the  ivory  of  her  flesh.    ❛   i  wouldn’t  have  you  lie  to  me  ! -----   i  couldn’t  take  it.   ❜    fury  her  armour,  though  the  pleading  whistle  in  her  breath  through  its  cracking  :  a  whole  new  face,  fresh  as  a  snake.  she  storms  closer,  a  push  he  &  she  alike  know  all  too  well  could  have  been  easily  deadly,  land  but  a  soft  thud  on  his  chest  that  she  had  rested  a  relieving  touch  minutes  past.   ❛   i  kissed  you  because  i’m  a  fool.  not  because  it  was  convenient.  ----   i  kissed  you  because  i’d  missed  you  too  much   to  wait.  i’m  a  bloody  weak  fool  that  gave  in  to  what  i  knew  could  never  be  mine.   ❜    she  stumbles  away,  the  sobs  that’d  dressed  the  poison  she  spat  grow  thicker,  wrap  a  choking  hand  around  her  throat.    ❛   you  don’t  love  me.  how  could  you  love  me  ?   ❜   a  plea,  a  begging  to  be  held,  to  hear  what  she  swore  would  never  believe.   ❛   —- how  could  you  love  me  back  ?   ❜

THE CARESS OF GAZE SO FAMILIAR    inches  across  her  skin  &  warmth  rises  from  below  her  breast,  flushes  up  pink  branches  that  snake  daringly  about  her  swan  neck.  a  habitual  twitch  takes  to  her  left  eye  as  she  breaks  loose  from  the  painting  he’s  trapped  her  in  &  she  turns,  raging  thunder   —  moors  shakes  beneath  them  for  the  breaking  of  a  second.    ❛   oh,  is  it  so  amusing  ?   i  hardly  think  you’d  enjoy  it  as  much  as  a  bird.   ❜   fire  dresses  the  cadence  of  her  hiss,  though  nothing  can,  it  seems,  fill  the  cracks  that  came  to  be  moons  past.  in  a  daze,  his  lips  catch  her  gaze  ;  his  grin  he  doesn’t  care  to  veil.  and  for  a  moment,  the  world  softens,  her  breath  picks  up,  the  shadows  that’s  taken  her  comeliness  fade.  to  the  sound  of  her  heart  breaking,  her  senses  return  like  stabs  &  she  drags  up  her  now  dewy  greens  to  find  his  gem  -  blacks.      ❛   it  might  be  a  jest  to  you,  but  i  made  a  promise.   ----  just  tell  me  what  to  do.   ❜  

❛   SO YOU’RE TO APPROVE   their  match   ?   .   .   .   despite  the  queen  mother’s  predisposition  towards  the  fae,   might  i  add—   you  know,   i’d  dare  to  wonder  if  her  most  kindly  highness  has  made  somewhat  of  a  romantic  out  of  you,   mistress.   ❜
