angelo carter has coached the red cheetahs for as long as anyone can remember (at least that’s how it feels to rowan) and carrying his last name means carrying expectation. but he is more than a coach to rowan, he has always been a father first. he taught her how to skate before she could walk properly, how to throw a perfect pass, how to hit the ice without hesitation. he pushes her hard, but never cruelly, and he looks out for her in ways no one else can, always knowing when to let her fight for herself and when to step in. their bond is quiet but unbreakable, built on shared mornings on the ice, laughter echoing through empty arenas, and the kind of trust that only comes from growing up together in the rink’s hum.

rowan is a tomboy through and through, carrying the easy confidence of someone who has spent more time on the ice than anywhere else. she’s outgoing, loud when the situation calls for it, quick with jokes, and first to throw her shoulder into a friend or teammate. she thrives in chaos, whether it’s a fast-paced game or a locker room full of laughter, but beneath the bravado is someone fiercely loyal, protective, and intensely aware of her own vulnerabilities. softness exists in her, she just keeps it close.

hockey became both refuge and language. where words failed, the ice didn’t. she learned how to take a hit and keep moving, how to bleed without complaint, how to show love through effort and loyalty instead of confession. she fights hard for the blue hounds, always team-first, always disciplined, but she does it with an energy that lights up the rink and makes her impossible to ignore.

montrouge still feels like home, equal parts comfort and pressure. rowan loves the town even as it keeps her tethered, loves her father even when his shadow stretches long, and cherishes the lessons he’s taught her, on and off the ice. she is learning, slowly, that strength doesn’t always have to mean silence, that laughter and connection can exist alongside grit and determination, and that being herself- tomboy, outgoing, loyal, is enough.
