Stuck In The Moment

my brain in times of crisis:

“Even after hurting me a million times, he would still ask me why I couldn’t ever trust him.” she said bitterly. “But see, that’s the thing with toxic people. They’ll stab you in the lungs and then ask why you’re having trouble breathing.”

“What changed? I learned to put myself first.”

“I had to realize that maybe it had nothing to do with me. And maybe it had nothing to do with him either. I mean sure- maybe he could have loved me a little harder, or maybe I could have not overreacted as often as I did. But just because we didn’t work out didn’t mean he wasn’t a good person. He was an incredible person, and our time was beautiful while it lasted.”

““I guess this is it, huh?” He held me tighter into him and I suddenly knew the answer. We were over, and there wasn’t anything he or I could do about it. All I could do was memorize the touch of his body and warmth of his breath before it was all gone. That was always the thing you started to miss first, the comfort of being around the other person. So we laid there as long as we could, both knowing that we’d always miss the other.”

“Sometimes things come out of your mouth that you regret later on. Or no, not regret. You say something so razor-sharp that the person you say it to carries it around with them for the rest of their life.”

“No one brings flowers when your brain gets sick.”

“My point is, there are a lot of people in the world. No one ever sees everything the same way you do; it just doesn’t happen. So when you find one person who gets a couple of things, especially if they’re important ones… you might as well hold on to them.”
