so now that people are discussing Obsession and its themes, there's this question of "was real Nikki romantically interested in Bear? did she like him back?"
and i do find it very interesting that most men view real Nikki's attitude towards Bear as her being into him and wanting him to confess, while most women are like "hell no, she was dreading the moment she had to turn him down". like almost all women know what it's like to have a guy friend who suddenly starts showing interest in you and ends up making everything super uncomfortable.
of course, the movie makes this intentionally ambiguous since we're seeing things from Bear's perspective, and he never gets to know if Nikki liked him back or not.
but yeah, even the men who aren't Bear apologists, the men who condemn Bear for his actions, even those men see a woman's platonic affection towards a man as romantic.
i also see a lot of people saying "it's more tragic if she liked him because they could have been together" but i beg to differ. it's tragic either way because it's a huge violation of trust, but i can only imagine how incredibly torturous it must be to be forced to sleep with someone you have no romantic or sexual interest in.
