Illumi is able to justify having gay sadomasochist smackdowns with the clown freak because that’s Training. Yes he could train with anyone else but no matter how much he wants to be a Good Boy fundamentally he, too, is not truly a killing machine at heart but rather a human being.

And within the parameters ingrained in his psyche, he will always run free with the action that aligns best with his innermost desires. Just. Sex without intent to manipulate or reproduce is not included within the parameters, since his family bloodline has always been touted to him as being of Utmost Importance, and that line is maintained by heterosexual intermarriage with powerful individuals.
