Grammar Notebook - How To Say “What if…?” In Spanish

In Spanish if you want to say “what if” to suggest possibilities or hypotheticals, then you are going to use “y si…?”

Let’s look at some examples:

• What if Christopher Columbus never discovered America?

• Y si Cristóbal Colón nunca hubiera descubierto América?

• What if the Titanic never sunk?

• Y si el Titanic nunca se hubiera hundido?

• What if it rains today?

• Y si llueve hoy?

Note: Since we are talking about hypothetical situations then it will trigger the SUBJUNCTIVE tense. *One day I will try to make a post on the subjunctive because it is quite difficult for Spanish learners.

"A quest. I seek a book."

"No, one I read as a child."

"And this dragon didn't have it?"

"Alas."
