“Well, my uncle Thor’s a Norse god. He’s got, like, this magic hammer that you can only pick up if you’rw worthy and he controls, like, lightning or something. Moja teta has, like, telekinesis and telepathy. Seen a lot of weird stuff in my day. And that’s just in the family.”

“Betcha didn’t think a giant key could do that, huh?” Mia grinned to herself as the ‘sword’ in her hand dispersed in a shroud of light.

“I mean, it’s. It’s pretty cool. I dunno, I’m kinda difficult to surprise at this point.”

“ ‘it’s called ‘the ocarina of time.’ first magical artifact of this course ” navi translated as link signed, holding the blue mystical instrument in his hand. “ ‘and it was given to me by a very good friend… so i always keep it with me. would you like to try playing it? or hear something off of it?’ ”

Skye looked up, eyes going wide at the Ocarina. Give me? He signed, his expression supplying the questioning aspect rather than bothering to sign it. He honestly had no idea what an Ocarino or whatever was, but he’d learned from growing up around actual gods and robots that when someone offered you something mystical looking, you definitely tried it at least once.

“listen, i’m sure you have a good point, but there is a shiny raltz battling with me and i have to make sure i use a premier ball or else it’s getting away. i’m not letting it get away.”

“You can actually find those? Dude. But why premier ball? Tells you right off the bat it’s only as good as a pokeball.”

“good question! NOTHING. it seems that a mr. roy harper has gone a bit too deep in teaching you information that simply going back and teaching everything the correct way wouldn’t even benefit. so, we’re learning about USEFUL SKILLS instead of just… what came before we, as humans, were even alive! don’t you want to use your brain the way it’s supposed to be once you graduate?”

Skye raised an eyebrow, fiddling with his watch until he found one of the buttons he was looking for, seeing if he would notice. “No, not really.” he said, the noise not registering on the left side. “I kinda just wanna memorize the information I need to pass the test, promptly forget it to memorize something else, and then try to cram it all for the final. That’s all I’m here for.”

“well, according to the previous records and memorabilia i have from your previous united states history teacher, it seems that everything you’ve been taught is, to state blatantly, useless. who teaches children their country’s history with musicals and silly art projects? too late to really change now; so, here on out, i’ll choose to not waste any valuable time and teach you proper, useful skills: deduction, evaluation, confusion. possibly skills that could be used to fool a severely intellectually inferior detective that so happens to run around in a bat costume.”

“Uh…what…does that have to do with this class?” Skye asked, eyeing the door. “We’ve already got a class for that. That you guys also ruined. Look, I just wanna graduate.” This entire fiasco was disorienting to say the least. In all honesty he had considered not even going to class. But with his luck he'd skip a class with a new teacher who didn't care one bit about anything but being listened to. So he'd dragged himself out of bed and even put on actual clothes…for this?

“i mean, it’s not bad… i just think you’d be a really good subject to p a i n t. that’s all i’m saying.”

“...that sounds fake, but okay. Look, I’ve only got two looks: sleep deprived child and fucking disaster. I don’t really think either of those would be a good subject.”
