I just want to ask what happened? What made Tumblr decide to implement a rule about flagging the adult content? I know, the purpose of the rules is to keep us safe, rules are there to protect us and that there are no biases in the rules, it is all for the good intention for the community. I understand that there are some things about adult content that are understandable to why we should remove it but there are some arts that are appreciated through that kind of content. I mean take sculptures in the Louvre, Paris, France as an example. They are naked statues but an art that is appreciated because of the emotions and idea that are given through that art. There are even some stories that are inspiring because of the violent content in the story. I mean, how does a character show character development and become a strong, brave, wise and have a mind and heart filled with knowledge and justice? What is the drive of a character that lets them decide to protect the things they love or to sacrifice for the things they love. Art is a freedom which helps people to convey ideas and emotions and not only it can convey, it is also therapeutic to the artist and the spectators/viewers/readers and I thought Tumblr is a place where we can express our ideas freely. If the problem is about the negative comments or feedback, isn’t that normal thing for artists? Artists will receive criticism from people because it is how they know that what they are making is art. It is normal that not all people will appreciate the artist’s arts because not everyone has the same interest. I believe it is not the artist’s fault for creating such wonderful art from sublime experiences (especially with some artists who put a disclaimer or warning about the content of their art, I mean if you don’t the art then don’t visit there. They have been warned). I believe it is how people react to a subject or item is the problem. There are just some people who are ignorant to some things which makes them do ridiculous and unthinkable (I wish to state stupid but it might be violent for Tumblr) things. There are other ways we can react to an art in a negative way and still be responsible and mature. Ignorant people are just people who won’t accept the reality (people can accept the reality but there are some people who don’t want to). The content in the adult content are situations that happen in reality. If people can’t grasp the idea of it, how can we expect them to survive in the world where there is violence? Knowing about adult content is an education to our naive minds which will help us become alert and be safe by avoiding it due to our knowledge of it if ever a situation similar to it arises. I hope when you read this, you understand that I am not wholly against the policy because I know that there are other arts which expresses an ill-intent purpose to other people. There must be some leeway for some artist to create arts with adult content so that they will not feel discouraged with their ideas which will minimize their self-esteem or self-confidence and so that we will not limit the capabilities of an artist. I would like to propose a suggestion to the Tumblr users who create arts with adult content and to other Tumblr users who are only visiting so that we can settle whatever existing problem there is that decides the Tumblr creator/members/community to implement the new rule. If the Tumblr creator/members/community are interested in my proposal. If so, please contact me here in my account. If there are some things that I did not understand due to my lack of knowledge of why the Tumblr community/members/creator implemented the rule, please, instead of leaving exaggerated negative comments/feedback, explain to me what happened in a calm manner and help me understand. I hope we all can settle this peacefully and still be able to enjoy the beauty of art. I hope we all are open-minded.
