Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 | Part 4
Here he is again, staring at the pile of crumpled parchments on his floor. It has been days since he saw you at the hallway and saw how you couldn't even look him in the eye.
He thought about writting another letter in third person saying how stupid was the comment he said.
But he knows that plan won't work forever. So he finally writes.
["I've hidden behind ink long enough, meet me by the greenhouses after dinner. Please."]
He knows that if she doesn't show up... It's over.
He'll never get another chance.
He'll lose her before he ever had her.
All those letters will have meant nothing.
You are sitting on your bed after reading the letter about ten times now, you finally look up at Pansy who is staring at you from your desk.
"You're going, right?" Pansy asks you before standing and sitting beside you. "I suppose," You respond. "But what if I don't like who it is...?"
Pansy smiles softly. "But what if you do?" She remarks before asking again, "What about Lorenzo thought?"
"I don't care about him anymore," You replied. "I know it may sound silly but I think that I like whoever is writting this letters, No- Not like, I think I'm in love. I know... It's so stupid I don't even know who he is-"
"Don't say that." Pansy responds as she cuts you off. "Love is never stupid, nor silly..."
"That's the fifth time you've fixed your tie." Theo stated while watching his friend in front of the mirror.
"I haven't." Lorenzo mutters while looking at him through the mirror's reflection. "You literally have." The Italian replied before adding. "Merlin, I thought I'd graduate before you apologized to her."
"Yeah, Yeah. Whatever. I have to go now." Lorenzo answered before turning and walking to the door, when he's about to leave. Theo spoke once more.
"Whatever you're planning to say… don't rehearse it. Because the second you see her, you'll forget every word anyway. Just tell her the truth."
It's already night, you arrived to the greenhouse like he said. Everything's calm, peaceful. You can hear the wind ruffling the leafs on the trees. The only source of light are some lanters hanging on the trees, and, in the distance you see a tiny light coming from Hagrid's hut.
You start to think you have been stood up. So you go to leave, just as you exit the greenhouse, you see Lorenzo approaching.
You don't want him to see you, so you quickly enter again and hide begging Merlin that he didn't notice you, What is he even doing here in the first place?
You move from your hiding spot to peek a little, see if he is still close. When you look out, you can't find him anywhere. You relaxed, but not for long, because it's weird. How did he leave so quickly?
When you turn back around, you notice something on one of the tables... A letter.
Confused, you grab it and open it cautiously.
["You always read my letters so carefully. I was hoping you'd read this last one. Now... Would you do me one favor? Turn around."]
You turn around, finally facing the person behind that pretty handwritting. And your breath hitches when you see him, Lorenzo Berkshire, hands in his pockets and nervous as hell. He looks even more nervous than you.
"You came." He says, as he takes a step closer to you. But not too close.
Your thumb caresses the parchment. "It was you..?"
"Always" he responds before taking another step closer. "Why...? Well..." he takes a pause to calm his nerves before continuing.
"Everyone thinks i'm so confident and charming and proud... And I am, o- or I was, until I saw you..."
"Writing to you was easy."
"At first, I just wanted to give you something to smile about... Then I couldn't stop."
"I never planned on telling you. I was happy just knowing your mornings started with a smile because of me, but when I saw you looking at me... I panicked. And I said the stupidest thing I could've said."
You stared at him, you were still a bit hurt about what he said, but you could understand why he said it.
You suddenly let out a tiny smile. "You know... You could've just asked me out."
He laughs softly and responds to that,
"But then I wouldn't have twenty-three letters proving I liked you."
You laugh too and look down at the letter you're holding before looking up again. "Twenty-four... This one counts too."
You can't help and smile more if that's even possible. He smiles back and lifts his hand to tuck a strand of hair behind your ear. A silent question.
Instead, you look up at him... And that's all the permission he needs.
He leans in slowly, almost hesitantly, giving you one last chance to change your mind.
The kiss is soft at first, almost careful. Like both of you are still trying to believe that this is actually happening.
Then you smile against his lips... And Lorenzo does too.
His thumb brushes over your knuckles as he pulls you a little closer, the kiss lasting just a few seconds longer before you finally pull away.
Your foreheads remain pressed together.
And for the first time, there are no letters between you.
Maybe some love stories don't begin with grand gestures.
Maybe they begin with a folded piece of parchment slipped beneath a bedroom door.
