On November 12, 1833, there was a meteor shower so intense that it was possible to see up to 100,000 meteors crossing the sky every hour. At the time, many thought it was the end of the world, so much so that it inspired this woodcut by Adolf Vollmy.

Alpine Ibexes climb nearly 90 degree angles to lick salt deposits of of mountainsides. They crave that mineral.

Rock Pigeon enjoying some seaweed at Pier 4 beach in Brooklyn Bridge Park. I believe it is succulent or red string Seaweed (Sarcodiotheca gaudichaudii). Many pigeons were eating it like crazy!
