I can’t quite put into words the magnitude of what today’s events that occurred in Paris means for our universal church. The cathedral was not just an architectural wonder, but also a place of worship, and a home to priceless works of art and relics. As I reflect on this now, I can’t help but ponder the words of @bishopbarron who would argue that the beauty of the cathedral, as with the beauty of many other forms of art in our church, can be a powerful evangelical tool, and it can grab us in such a way where words can sometimes fail to communicate. As was the case with Cardinal Jean-Marie Lustiger who converted from Judaism, and Paul Claudel who wandered into the cathedral during evening vespers, stared at the north Rose Window, and experienced a conversion from non-belief.
