"Comet Donati", colour lithograph by Philippe Benoist, from Amédée Guillemin's Le Ciel (1877).
Notre Dame church in Montreal.
Paris wasn't all cafés and postcard moments.
We spent the day getting lost inside the Musée d'Orsay, from 10 in the morning until 4:30 in the afternoon, wandering through room after room of incredible art. Afterwards, we walked through the rain to catch a glimpse of Notre-Dame, still surrounded by restoration work after the fire.
Then came what was supposed to be a comforting bowl of ramen at Ippudo... and turned out to be one of the most disappointing meals of the trip.
To end the day, we found ourselves trapped under heavy rain in a small Parisian alley, waiting for the storm to pass.
Not the perfect Paris you see in movies, but maybe a more memorable one.
If you’ve ever watched a Notre Dame home game, you’ve seen Him. Rising 134 feet above the ground. Arms stretched wide. Overlooking the stadium.
The mural the whole world calls “Touchdown Jesus.” ✝️🏈
The official name is “The Word of Life,” a stunning mosaic mural on the south face of the Hesburgh Library at the University of Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana.
It was designed by artist Millard Sheets and completed in 1964, made up of thousands of pieces of granite stone sourced from all over the world. 🌍
It stands 132 feet tall and 68 feet wide, one of the largest collegiate murals in existence.
So how did it get the nickname? 🤔
The Hesburgh Library sits directly behind the north end zone of Notre Dame Stadium.
From inside the stadium, Christ’s raised arms appear perfectly framed above the goalposts, as if He’s signaling … TOUCHDOWN. 🙌🏈
The nickname was born from the stands and never left. 😂
Faith and football. The eternal and the earthly. All wrapped into one iconic South Bend skyline. 🏟️✝️
Whether you’re a Notre Dame fan or not—you have to admit—that’s pretty legendary. 💛💙
