Hannah Montana is fucked up because its entire POINT as a show is that children should be protected from fame and exploitation, but it stars a REAL little girl that's being exploited. Nearly every episode carries the looming threat of Miley being outed as Hannah and losing her peaceful teenage life to the ravages of fame. Her father in the show (played by her own father in real life) wisely protected her from the trauma of fame by making her wear a disguise and live a rather quiet, interview-free life. Meanwhile the REAL Billy Ray Cyrus sold his daughter to Disney Channel when she was 11 and forced her to read dialogue about how terrible it would be to face the public eye. Like... Jesus, dude. The fictional Robby Ray is 10x the father, and it's not even close. (It's also IMMENSELY funny that her dad doesn't use his real name in the show, while she does. Almost like he wanted a bit of a disconnect between his identity and his character. Something Miley didn't get.)
Hyperrealistic simulacrum of a good father
I love Cordelia Cupp. She leans into her directness, her assertiveness, and her intelligence in a way that often rubs men the wrong way. It is only vicious when someone doubts her abilities. She actively cares about and has a deep respect for Dokes, even offering to call off further investigation so that he doesn't lose his job.

the top 10 things i loved about the residence
10 - random bird facts that are actually completely correct and really cool.
9 - gay presidents that aren't overexaggerated stereotypes. they're just queer and i love that and honestly that's needed in this goddamn political climate.
8 - references to famous detectives that aren't just sherlock. like the reference to benoit blanc and agatha christie's novels.
7 - the fact that they couldn't get hugh jackman to play hugh jackman so they just shot any scene with "hugh jackman" in increasingly ridiculous ways.
6 - not playing into stereotypes. (except for australians but as an australian i can accept that). but with every other character they are fully fleshed out and have their own personalities that aren't stereotypical.
5 - similar to that, the fact that they put so much work into characterising each character in a way that was realistic and believable. cause i think that's something that is so difficult with murder mysteries, is how do you shape each character so that they're not so obviously the killer, but you make it clear that they could kill, and so that the final killer makes sense and aligns with their character. and they did that so well, cause every action that's revealed in the final episode makes sense; tripp's fuck ups, lilly's reveal, elsyie and bruce's relationship, everything that the audience finds out makes sense based on the information we already have.
4 - how they treated the victim, a.b. wynter. in so many murder mysteries it feels like they just disregard the victim as soon as they get a few leads. i loved the detail of his journals being found, and him actually having a continued voice throughout the whole series, even though he is dead.
3 - the very escapist nature of the show, that i feel like is going to continue for the rest of the orange bastards term. rather than focusing on the policy or the work being done by the government, it makes you remember that the people who seem to be making all these life changing decisions are actually people, no matter how isolated and untouchable they seem.
2 - the relationship between cordelia and agent park. peak friendship.
1 - cordelia as a person. i love her so much.

Rewatched The Residence. Really like the part where Detective Cupp says "this person who has redecorated the White House so it's garish and unwelcoming, who hates all the traditions, who's asked about getting rid of the Rose Garden, who may very well want to tear down the entire building--this person HATES the White House, all it stands for, and everyone who cares about it and what it represents."
"I love your mom. I didn't like to see her cry and I told her I was going to find her strawberry sock and I did find it. That's what I could do for your mom.
This is not the only way to be but it is the way that I am"
-Cordelia Cupp to her nephew
she is asexual and autistic but I canβt prove it
THE RESIDENCE | The Last of Sheila
i don't see a lot of people talking about the residence on netflix but it was such a refreshing watch. i love when shows stick to the proposed theme (in this case, murder mystery) and do not add sub-genres for mainstream attention. the comedic elements were perfectly timed and not loosely thrown in for a few laughs. it's witty (!!!) and really dove into each suspect's (should i say the "interesting people") story.
i think didier gotthard's particularly stood out to me, because of how explicitly close he seemed to wynter. besides jasmine, who was his assistant, wynter's relationship with the staff was either implied or a fleeting scene. out of all the people who didn't work in such close proximity with him, gotthard was the only one who acknowledged his dedication and years of service, and for someone as overworked and neglected as wynter, you can really see him break character there. he was dedicated a corner of gotthard's gingerbread house, the same one which was going to be displayed to america's most important guests.
up until lily ruined that plan and quite literally broke didier.
wynter was probably going to be appreciated for his work by people beyond the white house, a treatment he seldom received. that argument between him and gotthard really gave me a headache because how sad must it be for him to swallow his emotions and let things go under the guise of professionalism?
honestly, the scene that went from didier displaying his gingerbread houses over the years with pride and glee written all over his face to that of dejection as his house sat ignored downstairs made me tear up. he believed wynter would protect him but nobody seemed to empathize with him.
his bitterness really gave depth to him as a character + a potential criminal.
