The person I reblogged this from is awesome as fuck.
WHAT LOW ACTIVITY & SLOW REPLY MEANS:
it means i want to be here, i really do
it means that i have, whether i like it or not, more important things to do than roleplay at the moment
it means that replies are going to sit for a moment
WHAT IT DOESN’T MEAN:
that i care any less
that i don’t want to talk / plot with you
that you aren’t allowed to IM me or ask for my disco
Sometimes Tumblr has to take a back burner, and that’s fine! Roleplay will still be here when we get back. So take that day to yourself. Don’t worry about drafts. Don’t worry about how “slow” you are being. Everything is okay!
Mamie: "I don't want to be like you; I want to be a monster." (she's my sentient zombie oc :3)
A dark brow arched, the young woman leaning a little more heavily against the counter as she sized up the woman before her. "That's a hell of a thing to say." she mused. A polite way of saying 'that's awfully ballsy to say to someone like her', really. "Usually monsters don't announce that they want to be monsters. Helps keep them anonymous, lets them do all of those dastardly deeds..." she continued, fingers drumming against the old, worn wood. "So why, I wonder, you'd choose to be overt rather than covert. Death wish, perhaps? Second death wish?"

This is an oc x canon safe zone.
psa on posting speed;
i am a slow roleplayer. not only do i get distracted easily, i get overwhelmed easily. sometimes i can’t talk and do drafts at the same time so i am sorry if i ignore your message. i am deliberate and methodical with every word choice. i like to spend my time on my writing and getting to that emotional level within myself to evoke a proper response with each reply. i’m not good at whipping out thread after thread. i never have been. i’m sorry if that’s the way you roleplay and i don’t match up, but i like to think the quality of the writing makes up for my lack of speed. thank you so much!
winter prompts. ❄️
'It's snowing!' 'I can't believe how much snow there is!' 'Did we get a blizzard?' 'Look at all this snow!' 'How do you not enjoy winter? The snow is beautiful.' 'I want to get cozy by the fire.' 'Some hot coca and a fire would be great right about now.' 'I'll get some wood for the fire.' 'Come on, we'll cuddle by the fire.' 'Let's build a snowman!' 'What happened to him? You ruined a perfectly good snowman!' 'Snowmen are over. It's time for snow dinosaurs.' 'He's so cute! Just look at the snowmen!' 'Wanna go sledding?' 'Don't you dare crash my sled.' 'Have you ever gone sledding before?' 'Oh, come on, that hill is perfect for sledding!' 'I can see it already. Death by sled.' 'Is this your first time skiing?' 'Nothing like zipping down a mountain on some skis.' 'Winter sports are the best part about winter.' 'Yeah, that's a no. I'll just hang out at the lodge.' 'Skiing is overrated. Snowboarding is better.' 'Wanna go snowboarding?' 'I want to do some jumps, come on.' 'You're definitely a snowboarder. You have that vibe.' 'Make sure to bundle up, it's cold outside.' 'Don't forget your winter coat!' 'Mittens! I love them!' 'You should get your hat, it's pretty chilly out there.' 'I can't believe how cold it is.' 'Better break out the winter coats.' 'I am not wearing five layers of clothes.' 'Are you declaring snowball war?' 'Duck for cover!' 'Snowball fight!' 'Hey, watch my head! You almost got me in the face!' 'Don't you dare shove snow down my back!' 'That is not a snowball, that's an iceball!' 'I got some gingerbread kits, wanna try one?' 'You ate half of my gingerbread house!' 'The kits are for cowards. I don't need instructions to build a structurally sound gingerbread house.' 'Yeah, so, all those candies were decorations. Not just a snack for the builder.' 'You bit my gingerbread man's head off!' 'Well, I've seen worse gingerbread creations.' 'What a time of year.'
@lxvingdeadgxrl asked:
you're the only one who knows how to do this. (For Tuun)
"Hmm..." Tuunbaq looked at the witch sitting in front of him in one of his chairs and smiled. "You finally came to collect the debt. I started to think that you're too afraid of me to do this." It's been quite a long time since she'd done an impossible thing for him, brought the voices of his guardians back from the past, so he could listen to their songs one more time. It had nearly killed her although she'd been using his mind and his energy. During the process, she'd seen a lot about him, and he's been sure that it had scared her away for good.
"You're desperate, otherwise you would never come to my place." He took a sip from his glass, then walked to the round glass table where several other tumblers and a few bottles were standing. "Vodka? Scotch? I have wine in the kitchen if you want. So what is this you want from me that no one else can do? Tear someone to shreds?"
The young woman shifted a bit, trying to maintain any air of confidence that she might have had left. "Me? Afraid? Hardly..." she murmured, her voice surprisingly steady despite her nerves. "More like I was waiting for something that was worth asking for help with. Why would I blow such a valuable favor on something small?" she asked.
Had she been unsettled by what she had witnessed? Sure, anyone would have been. If she'd been smart, she probably should have run for the hills and forgotten all about the favor that he had promised her. But there she was, a glutton for punishment.
She hated that he could read her so easily. Hated that, despite her efforts to remain stoic, that he could tell just how uneasy and nervous she was.
"Scotch'd be nice..." she confessed, glancing down at the hands she had folded in her lap. "Thank you." Right... Business. "Nothing as grisly as that." she offered. Wynter paused, debating for a moment or so, before finally speaking once more. "I--I want you to find someone for me." "I've exhausted all of my own means to locate this person, but you--you have resources, connections...If you do this for me, if you find this person, we'll be square."

Helpful things for action writers to remember
Sticking a landing will royally fuck up your joints and possibly shatter your ankles, depending on how high you’re jumping/falling from. There’s a very good reason free-runners dive and roll.
Hand-to-hand fights usually only last a matter of seconds, sometimes a few minutes. It’s exhausting work and unless you have a lot of training and history with hand-to-hand combat, you’re going to tire out really fast.
Arrows are very effective and you can’t just yank them out without doing a lot of damage. Most of the time the head of the arrow will break off inside the body if you try pulling it out, and arrows are built to pierce deep. An arrow wound demands medical attention.
Throwing your opponent across the room is really not all that smart. You’re giving them the chance to get up and run away. Unless you’re trying to put distance between you so you can shoot them or something, don’t throw them.
Everyone has something called a “flinch response” when they fight. This is pretty much the brain’s way of telling you “get the fuck out of here or we’re gonna die.” Experienced fighters have trained to suppress this. Think about how long your character has been fighting. A character in a fist fight for the first time is going to take a few hits before their survival instinct kicks in and they start hitting back. A character in a fist fight for the eighth time that week is going to respond a little differently.
ADRENALINE WORKS AGAINST YOU WHEN YOU FIGHT. THIS IS IMPORTANT. A lot of times people think that adrenaline will kick in and give you some badass fighting skills, but it’s actually the opposite. Adrenaline is what tires you out in a battle and it also affects the fighter’s efficacy - meaning it makes them shaky and inaccurate, and overall they lose about 60% of their fighting skill because their brain is focusing on not dying. Adrenaline keeps you alive, it doesn’t give you the skill to pull off a perfect roundhouse kick to the opponent’s face.
Swords WILL bend or break if you hit something hard enough. They also dull easily and take a lot of maintenance. In reality, someone who fights with a sword would have to have to repair or replace it constantly.
Fights get messy. There’s blood and sweat everywhere, and that will make it hard to hold your weapon or get a good grip on someone.
A serious battle also smells horrible. There’s lots of sweat, but also the smell of urine and feces. After someone dies, their bowels and bladder empty. There might also be some questionable things on the ground which can be very psychologically traumatizing. Remember to think about all of the character’s senses when they’re in a fight. Everything WILL affect them in some way.
If your sword is sharpened down to a fine edge, the rest of the blade can’t go through the cut you make. You’ll just end up putting a tiny, shallow scratch in the surface of whatever you strike, and you could probably break your sword.
ARCHERS ARE STRONG TOO. Have you ever drawn a bow? It takes a lot of strength, especially when you’re shooting a bow with a higher draw weight. Draw weight basically means “the amount of force you have to use to pull this sucker back enough to fire it.” To give you an idea of how that works, here’s a helpful link to tell you about finding bow sizes and draw weights for your characters. (CLICK ME)
If an archer has to use a bow they’re not used to, it will probably throw them off a little until they’ve done a few practice shots with it and figured out its draw weight and stability.
People bleed. If they get punched in the face, they’ll probably get a bloody nose. If they get stabbed or cut somehow, they’ll bleed accordingly. And if they’ve been fighting for a while, they’ve got a LOT of blood rushing around to provide them with oxygen. They’re going to bleed a lot.
Here’s a link to a chart to show you how much blood a person can lose without dying. (CLICK ME)
If you want a more in-depth medical chart, try this one. (CLICK ME)
Hopefully this helps someone out there. If you reblog, feel free to add more tips for writers or correct anything I’ve gotten wrong here.
How to Apply Writing Techniques for Action Scenes:
- Short sentences. Choppy. One action, then another. When there’s a lull in the fight, take a moment, using longer phrases to analyze the situation–then dive back in. Snap, snap, snap. - Same thing with words - short, simple, and strong in the thick of battle. Save the longer syllables for elsewhere. - Characters do not dwell on things when they are in the heat of the moment. They will get punched in the face. Focus on actions, not thoughts. - Go back and cut out as many adverbs as possible. - No seriously, if there’s ever a time to use the strongest verbs in your vocabulary - Bellow, thrash, heave, shriek, snarl, splinter, bolt, hurtle, crumble, shatter, charge, raze - it’s now. - Don’t forget your other senses. People might not even be sure what they saw during a fight, but they always know how they felt. - Taste: Dry mouth, salt from sweat, copper tang from blood, etc - Smell: OP nailed it - Touch: Headache, sore muscles, tense muscles, exhaustion, blood pounding. Bruised knuckles/bowstring fingers. Injuries that ache and pulse, sting and flare white hot with pain. - Pain will stay with a character. Even if it’s minor. - Sound and sight might blur or sharpen depending on the character and their experience/exhaustion. Colors and quick movements will catch the eye. Loud sounds or noises from behind may serve as a fighter’s only alert before an attack. - If something unexpected happens, shifting the character’s whole attention to that thing will shift the Audience’s attention, too. - Aftermath. This is where the details resurface, the characters pick up things they cast aside during the fight, both literally and metaphorically. Fights are chaotic, fast paced, and self-centered. Characters know only their self, their goals, what’s in their way, and the quickest way around those threats. The aftermath is when people can regain their emotions, their relationships, their rationality/introspection, and anything else they couldn’t afford to think or feel while their lives were on the line.
Do everything you can to keep the fight here and now. Maximize the physical, minimize the theoretical. Keep things immediate - no theories or what ifs.
If writing a strategist, who needs to think ahead, try this: keep strategy to before-and-after fights. Lay out plans in calm periods, try to guess what enemies are thinking or what they will do. During combat, however, the character should think about his options, enemies, and terrain in immediate terms; that is, in shapes and direction. (Large enemy rushing me; dive left, circle around / Scaffolding on fire, pool below me / two foes helping each other, separate them.)
Lastly, after writing, read it aloud. Anyplace your tongue catches up on a fast moving scene, edit. Smooth action scenes rarely come on the first try.
You guys want to play a game? REBLOG and put in the tags why you follow this person
Just because someone slows down doesn't mean they are not interested anymore!
I have seen anxiety-inducing posts about partners drifting apart and having lost interest when not interacting, but real life happens fam. Yes, when we are low on brain juice, we choose to reply to threads that appeal the most to us at that time to not get swamped in threads too much.
But we REALLY need to stop assuming the worst about our partner right away when our thread is not among the few chosen ones and takes longer to get replied to.
Maybe your partner wants to tend to your reply when they feel less tired, to give you the best they can do? Work and private stress can also take a while to subdue, so please be patient with your partner and don't just softblock because your brain assumes only bad things.
Sometimes we are in a bad place ourselves and need to step back a bit instead of projecting our own insecurities onto our partners in these moments. And taking time for yourself is perfectly okay. Being chronically online is not healthy in the long run.
