TOO HIGH.

“This time I've got nothing to waste. Let's go a little harder.”  

The lights took turns flickering, then shattering, as the cambion made his approach. His expression was a twisted horror -- eyes hollow and completely black -- but there was no mistaking the fact that they bored into the witch’s. His hand rose, forcing her against the far wall; centering the pressure around her neck and tightening the hold.

“It’s not all bad. My step-dad’s one of the good guys... He’s saved the world more times than I can keep track. What about yours?  Were they heroes?”

He weakly nodded. “I-I’ll do my best. But can we keep it between us for right now?”

“It probably depends but, how do you know?”

“I don’t.. I don’t know if I can handle it.”

“You coming?”

“My family... It isn’t exactly made up of heroes. Maybe I had the wrong kind of role models.”

“Yeah, well, here’s to hoping it’s a good one.”

“Oh, I didn’t realize it was you. I’m sorry.”

“Fixing implies there’s a point. Someone’s dead, Aunt Bon. And it’s my fault.”

“That’s not exactly what I had in mind, but I’m down. Put some shoes on.”

“It’s not stupid, is it?  I can’t help but feel like there might be a good reason...”

“You thinking what I’m thinking?”

“What’s the difference?”

Landyn appeared to be on the verge of tears. “I really screwed up, Bonnie.”

“I’m starting to think I’m always going to need someone.”
