      This wasn’t working. Or it was, but he didn’t know how or why and he really didn’t want to mess it up by running into it blind. Which was why Jeremy found himself seeking Trey out; it had been his first thought, really. Sure, he could have asked Doc or Waverly; but the cowboy wasn’t exactly known for stable, healthy relationships, and while Waverly probably had some tips, it felt odd asking her for relationship advice - sure, they were both in the same broad community of ‘gay’, but like… different kinds.

      He wasn’t exactly rationalising it all very well, obviously. The bottom line at any rate was that he felt if anybody could tell him what he should be doing, it would be Trey. 

      “Hey, man - sorry to bother you but can we talk when you have a chance? I just wanna get some advice. I’ll buy you coffee if that sweetens the deal any.” A sheepish grin. 

The other man looks up from his phone at Jeremy as he approaches him, already completely in the Know and on board before he can finish his request. A warm smile catches at his lips, lightly smug but keeping his voice down so as not to out his friend. “’s ‘bout Robin, ain’ i’?” He gives him a light, encouraging bump of his elbow. His smile spreads a little as he throws his arm around his shoulder, leading him to a more private space always wanting to give people the room to keep their business just that, theirs.

He pulls a chair out for Jeremy and gestures down to it before finding a seat of his own. “So wha’ seems t’ be th’ trouble? ‘cause from where ‘m si’in’ tha’ boy got i’ bad for you…”

He clears his throat and leans forward. “And for th’ record– there ain’ no need to ‘pologize…–you ain’ botherin’ no one…”

Anyone who knows Xavier and Laila Smith would wonder why it is that they only have one child. Being extremely loving, warm, and family oriented– you’d think that Trey would have a few siblings. However, the reason he doesn’t is actually quite sad. When his parents first began trying to have children, it became quickly evident that it wasn’t working. When seen by a specialist, it was discovered that Laila was indeed infertile. They tried several treatments, going to doctor after doctor with hope. Still, it was remarked by one of the less professional of such that it would take a miracle for her to conceive, let alone carry a baby to full term.

When they’d all but lost that hope, Laila began having symptoms and missed a period before she really thought anything was up. She sought out testing at a clinic before she dared say a word to Xavier, not wanting to crush him when it turned out to be a false alarm. When it was determined that she was indeed pregnant she still waited a few more weeks, in case of miscarriage. It wasn’t until Xavier picked up on the morning sickness and other symptoms that he confronted her.

Months later, Trey would come screaming into the world with such powerful lungs that both parents immediately broke down. Here he was, their beautiful, healthy boy.

So you see, Trey William Smith was a miracle baby. And he’s never ceased to live up to that title for either of his parents. He is the light of their lives and no one loves him more than his parents.
