As I travel through this world of kink, my eyes have been opened to all different types of people. At first I thought it was merely a community of dominant personalities, coupled with submissive personalities, and that was it. As I meet more and more people, I realize that some of the subs are more submissive than others, that sometimes Doms submit, that none of it has anything to do with physical strength, but in strength of personality. I’m learning that the old guard of our local community will give respect to the younger up and comers, as long as they return it. This is something that’s rare in almost any other walk of life, most times the younger folks are talked down to, made to feel lesser, merely out of lack of experience. I believe the reason its different in the kink world is that a dominant personality, in this world, knows what it feels like to actually HAVE power. They’ve felt pure and total submission, and don’t feel the need to compensate for a lack of power, the way a dominant personality outside of the kink world might do, by “picking” on a newbie. Instead of treating young Dom’s like they are less, they offer guidance, tips, tricks, and a friendly handshake.

I grew up in a family full of “A” type, dominant personalities. My mother, her three older sisters, most of their children…all dominant personalities of varying degrees, myself included. As you might guess, there was constant bickering. As I aged, I grew weary of bickering over trivial things, and I learned how to be a politician. It didn’t hurt that I was smart enough to sit back and keep my mouth shut, until my input was needed on an issue, then I’d take over and the other parties would then follow MY path. But I digress…

I’ve come to realize that the couples in this lifestyle seem truly happy together. I believe that’s because they are wired for each other.
