I just love psychology and analysing people. I also love introspection and human connection. I love learning in general so know a little bit about a lot.

All a character needs to say is "I'm tired. I'm very tired." and I'm all over the floor sobbing and curling into a ball
Some abusers do follow through and commit suicide after their victim escapes and I hate the way that victims are treated after that happens. The abuser did not kill themselves because they âloved their [victim] so much they couldnât live without themâ, they killed themselves because they lost control and dying a martyr was better than sticking around and putting up with the fallout and reputational damage. They killed themselves because it was one final way to hurt their victim and leave them with a massive mess to clean up. In a hypothetical world where they actually killer themselves because they âloved their [victim] so much they couldnât live without themâ, the victim should still be under absolutely no obligation to stay and that is an unhealthy dynamic for both of them.
This happens between couples, in parent-child relationships, in friendships and other dynamics but I have to specifically highlight it within the context of domestic violence committed by a male partner against a female partner. The reaction is particularly rancid because there is a societal expectation that women should âtake care ofâ men and be responsible for them. A woman can spend 15 years trying to help a violent man get better when he has no desire to do so and when she finally leaves for the safety of herself and her children and he ends his life, she is blamed for it. As though he wasnât the perpetrator, as though he wouldnât have killed her and the kids if he had continued access. I wish I could say this is uncommon but a not insignificant number of men commit suicide after their wife files for divorce/after their divorce is finalized and reactionary misogynists continuously point to this as a reason divorce is bad or women are evil instead of acknowledging that that guy was holding his family hostage and ended his life when his hostages escaped.
reading a book about secondary/vicarious trauma (in the book itâs called trauma exposure response) and they list 16 signs of it, if anyone is interested in tormenting their Caretakers:
Feeling helpless and hopeless
A sense that one can never do enough
Hypervigilance, always feeling âonâ or scanning for danger
Diminished creativity
Inability to embrace complexity
Minimization, of your own feelings but also of incidents that you deal with
Chronic exhaustion/physical ailments such as chronic fatigue, muscle pain, headaches, high blood pressure, etc
Inability to listen/deliberate avoidance of tough situations or feelings
Dissociative moments
Sense of persecution, especially if caretaking is your career; a sense that the system/world is working against you
Guilt, particularly for your own privilege
Fear; of intense feelings, of personality vulnerability, of potential victimization, etc
Anger and cynicism
Inability to emphasize/numbing as self-protection
Addictions of any kind
Grandiosity, an inflated sense of importance related to oneâs work, the feeling that only you are capable or responsible for getting it done
The book is Trauma Stewardship by Laura van Dernoot Lipsky and Connie Burk!
for your consideration: character who had really shitty parents getting sick or injured, and the team mom/dad deals with it in a normal, sympathetic way, and whumpee has NO idea what to do with that. some potential reactions:
preemptively getting defensive, expecting caretaker to be angry at them, only to get stunlocked by insistence that they go back to bed and rest
trying to brush care off with awkward jokes, insisting that it's not that bad, because they're not used to all the attention and they have no idea how to react
just freezing in quiet confusion while caretaker changes their cold compress, checks their temperature, goes through the usual routine that is completely foreign for whumpee
BONUS: fever! fever induced nightmares about their childhood that have them waking up scared and confused. fevered delirium making them call caretaker mom/dad. fevered delirium making them weepy and they apologize to caretaker for getting sick/hurt and being a burden.

The subtle signs of hidden trauma. Trembling hands. Hitched, stuttered breaths. A blink-and-you'll-miss-it flinch. Quick, fleeting signs, so easy to miss, but if they're noticed....
characters that get sick and hide it, the way wild animals hide all signs of weakness to avoid becoming a target. they take efforts to look normal and healthy until something finally snaps, a fever spikes, the sleepless nights of coughing and feeling like death catch up to them.
characters that get sick and make a huge fuss about it, wallowing in heaps of blankets and being pathetic while their friends humour this behavior and dote on them.
characters that go from the first to the second. they used to have to hide any sign of weakness to survive, but now they're in a safer environment and they realized that their new friends would shower them in attention and comfort if they were sick. now they make up for lost time, and their friends, aware of how they used to be, are all happy to indulge them.
panic attacks while injured really hit different. no matter how they try to think logically, they can't calm down, and every sharp inhale leads to more agony--just overwhelmed and exhausted and afraid, all that emotion cutting in like glass and broken ribs, hyperventilating with a hand pressed against the injury and a broken, gasping cry of pain...
care and tenderness as violating and coercive acts. being forced into vulnerability for your own good by someone who does not actually see you as a person but as a symbol or a figure too valuable to let die. you have power over so much but not your own body. you have lost the right to risk. everybody cheered
alexithymic whumpee who struggles to recognise when theyâre abused. they have some weird feelings about whumper, but they canât quite put their fingers on why. maybe they just arenât good with new people. maybe itâs all in their head.
alexithymic whumpee who struggles to express their concerns with a new member of the team (who is whumper). they feel that something is wrong but they canât explain why and canât even express how theyâre feeling. their âi get bad vibes from themâ is waved off and dismissed.
alexithymic whumpee who is constantly told that they need to âfeel their feelingsâ and âprocess their traumaâ but they canât put a name on their feelings and they donât even know where to start.
alexithymic whumpee who hears, âitâs okay to be scaredâ and thinks, âam i scared?â
alexithymic whumpee who describes events in facts and never references how it made them feel. does their team think theyâre dissociating and try to push them to express their feelings more? does their team think that theyâre basically unaffected and barely, if ever, traumatised?
alexithymic whumpee who uses heavily metaphorical language to express how they feel because itâs the only way they can try to conceptualise their emotions.

Whumpee and Caretaker have been friends for years, both secretly in love with and pining for the other. Whumpee gets taken by Whumper, then rescued and while in the hospital, loopy on painkillers and half-asleep. they tell Caretaker that they love them. Caretaker is surprised, but doesn't believe it because Whumpee
- is on *all* the Painkillers. - has been through massive trauma - Is half-asleep when they say it.
So when Whumpee wakes up properly and doesn't seem to remember the confession, Caretaker doesn't bring it up. Until like six months later, Whumpee says it again, wide awake, completely lucid and having been to a few therapy sessions. And Caretaker finally says it back
Stoic whumpee who never thinks about themselves to the point that when they regain consciousness after being wounded and see caretaker next to them the first thing they say is âWhy are you still here?â / âItâs too dangerousâ / âYou shouldnât be hereâ. The only thing that theyâre afraid of is caretaker being under threat.
Especially good when whumpee and caretaker are lovers. And when whumpee is wounded so badly that even the thought of parting with them now is ridiculous to caretaker, no matter how dangerous it is for them to stay.
Supercorp identity reveal au where Lena figures it out when she is at a gala or a party or something with Kara. Kara is on the far side of the room where no human would be able to hear Lena without her screaming at the top of her lungs between the distance and the music and general noise in the room. Lena is talking with Sam, who notices the loving gaze Lena has locked on Kara, and Sam âcasuallyâ asks Lena how her love life is going. Lena who is completely distracted by the sight of Kara throwing her head back in laughter mumbles, mostly to herself, âI canât believe I am going to fuck someone who says corny shit like âgollyâ.â At which point the glass Kara is holding explodes and Karaâs head snaps to find Lenaâs eyes already on her and she starts blushing furiously.
Whumpees who are viewed as "cruel" and "toxic" by others because they retaliated against Whumper's continuous abuse instead of just taking it

giving all my favorite characters enormous trust issues and then forcing them into being vulnerable in front of whoever in their life is the closest to being considered a "friend". make them fearfully reveal something about themself and tremble while waiting for how the other person responds (and fully expect to be ridiculed or dismissed)

This list will be continuously updated as I read more, there are SO many things on my To Read list, I'm just slow!! But, here are my recommendations, in no particular order
Espada by @cepheusgalaxy. Follows Espa, a young person raised only as a living weapon. Genuinely, one of my favourite series, it's so well-written and I adore Espa and Ciça, and I'm so excited to see where they go. If you like living weapons and are okay with minor whumpees, you will LOVE this series, I promise
Codename K by @chiswhumpcorner. Follows a living weapon named Kev. Raised all his life to be a living weapon, Kev is determined to survive and escape, no matter how what it takes. Stoic and secretly defiant whumpees my beloved <3 Featuring Leska the meanest bitch on earth đ€
Daffodil Academy series/Walenty Writings by @floral-comet-whump. Walenty, my poor tortured manipulative child. Daffodil Academy is a boarding school training less fortunate children to be servants of the kingdom, torturing their students while manipulating them into thinking this is love and that they should be grateful. Walenty sees through the lies, but has to comply and play along in fear of the consequences.
Destroyer by @paingoes. Another living weapon! Are you sensing a theme? :P Follows Delta, a weapon of mass destruction inherited by Paris, a whumper I can't help but feel bad for. Amazing complex characters, all of them are enjoyable and I highly recommend.
Chimeras by @melpomenelamusa. During adolescence, some people randomly develop animal traits. These people are known as Chimera children. They are discriminated against and often hunted down, killed, kidnapped and enslaved. Chimeras follows several of these people, and I love them all of them so much. From sweet caretaking to different kinds of captivity, it's a series I love deer-ly ;D
A Curse in Two Bodies by @thewhumpcaretaker. I rarely read royal whump, but this AMAZING. I love Adelais and Ninlen so much, and it's such an intriguing concept! Prince Adelais is cursed by a God of Justice, and it's a huge coverup. To help him, Ninlen is hired to share in the curse and bear it with him. Incredible, unique, and intriguing. I still need to read Haunted Artifact but I am intrigued with the characters and concept so I'm recommending that too!
Curse of Withering by @sirnef-fenris. Another living weapon story, my beloved. There is so much worldbuilding to this, I adore seeing all the bonus content and Cyrus, despite his circumstances, is such a cutie, albeit a very scary one because. His power. Insane. Anyway it's really awesome, there's so much love but into it and I'm excited to see where it goes!
Unmade by @whumpologyy. 18+ blog and story, nsfwhump heavy. Unmade follows Vienna, a young woman kidnapped and held captive by a serial predator. It's SO well written, Vienna is such a lovable character, and you know one of my favourite things is a whumpee who has a life before the whump + seeing the perspective of the family and friends of a missing whumpee, and Unmade delivers!! Watching Vienna fight to cling on to who she is with the memories of her loved ones, seeing her loved ones back home grieve and keep fighting to find her, I love it all so much and it's so good
Fruit of the Wicked by @whumpyourdamnpears. Also 18+ and nsfwhump. When I tell you this one makes me feral. I love it so much. Following Dani, kidnapped by a serial killer, and it somehow gets EVEN WORSE THAN THAT. I adorrreee religious contexts in whump, Dani is so fun and god she really makes me worry for her, and Sarah my beloved, such a fascinating character, just a really fun and interesting cast and premise, and I'm eager to follow along to the end
