I LOVE that they made Lestat The Keeper™ for a while. Book or show, Marius was planning on doing that anyways at some point.

*On that note, that was such an Armand-ism. See Lestat, you and the Gremlin do have some things in common! Maybe you can talk about the wonders of blenders and Wal-Mart together.
It adds so much to his relationship with Akasha—now I really get why he would even entertain not killing her and why he fell so hard for her. (A reason aside from his egotistical curiosity and enjoying having a death wish.)
It made sense that a 35 year old Lestat wouldn't be as sheltered or fragile as 20 year old baby book!Lestat who had hardly lived at all. Therefore book!Marius's concern that Lestat needed to go "be normal" for a few more centuries before becoming Keeper was moot.
AND OH MY GOD AKASHA
I genuinely think this portrayal is amazing. I was both speechless and cheering. Number one, she looks fucking amazing. Number two, seeing her so broken and lost (like Lestat) and then watching the pieces of her mind shift into place until—BAM — "I am the god" was so eerily fantastic.
This episode is the level that I've been wanting and probably the best in the entire season.
If Valko never comes back, Im going to need the fan ficition warriors to do him justice.

UGH. The way Lestat was hanging onto Nicki's every word at the tavern. He was mesmerized. They 100% had some encounters in the village when they were younger.
"Show me how to be a man." I SCREAMED. Then brief flashes of them doing just that.
Watching Nicki go crazy and Lestat just having to watch. My god it reminded me so much of baby-trap night and hoarding-era Louis. It makes me think Louis might've been even closer to madness than he (if Louis himself even knew) or the trial depicted, but I digress.
I'm just glad we got so sit with some angst. I was thriving. I knew the Nickistat episode would not let me down.

I don't know how to feel yet about TVL 01...
Honestly Louis and Armand missing body parts was the least of my concern. Louis already walks around like a human and Armand maybe got to meet Memnoch. Have at it boys. I'm more concerned with Labubu Lululemon Lestat.
I go back and skim over the introduction and modern day bits of TVL, QoTD and TotBT and mentally I'm like "yes this first episode is just like any Lestat prelude—this isn't mischaracterized at all."
I knew there would be some cheesy ridiculousness and references. It's Lestat after all. "I'm the James Bond of vampires." STOP.
But goddamn... It is jarring to see it from page to screen.
Maybe that's it.
I both love it and find myself wincing. Sometimes I'm left wondering how much cringe* is intentional or is just me.
*And don't get me wrong. I can handle corny singing vampires and campy plots: I LOVE True Blood and Buffy's "Once More, With Feeling."
I'm curious if the recounting of events settles into something slightly more familiar once we get to (presumably) "The Early Education and Adventures of the Vampire Lestat." Becuase while Lestat is chaotic, he can write and speak just as purplish as Louis when he feels like it—it isn't all "sex manuals lay[ing] on the same tables with the Egyptian Book of the Dead."
