Kill Em With Kindness (in its original form) is featured on Selena Gomez’s second solo studio album, Revival. She sings about how, even though “the world can be a nasty place,” we shouldn’t start a war over it over a dance track that complements the message.

When 13 Reasons Why came out, a new version of the song was released. It had a stripped back production, and Selena’s vocals and the emotion in it drives it. And in my opinion, it’s so much better than the original one.

It’s such a relatable song. 

I’ve been bullied before, and I’ve held grudges before, and I’ve wanted to retaliate, but over time, I’ve learnt that that’s not the best thing to do, that it’s better to act without the intention of swinging back at someone (and this can mean verbally), to just let it go. 

There are moments in your life - moments in the past, moments in the present, moments in the future - that life gets heavy. Delta Goodrem sings about this topic on her song Heavy, which is on her Wings of the Wild album. 

I love this song because it’s so honest and raw and it’s one of the songs I most relate with. I have such a deep connection with it, and it has the ability to make me feel the weight of emotion. 

The second part of the chorus when she sings about people calling her lucky because she has the world in her hands recalls the Britney Spears’ classic, Lucky. 

I can’t believe it’s been over a year since my ears have been blessed with listening to Glory for the first time. It’s such a shame that only two singles were released - Make Me... and Slumber Party - because so many other tracks on the album could’ve been awesome picks for a third. And one of them is the soft Just Luv Me.

I love Just Luv Me because it sounds so authentically like Britney. It shows off her sweet, breathy vocals, which complements the vulnerability of the song. And it’s really relatable: she doesn’t need to depend on anyone to stand on her own two feet; she just wants something simple, and that is to be loved. 

Demi Lovato’s sixth album, Tell Me You Love Me (which was released on the September 29th, 2017), has so many more songs that I relate with, and one of them is the promotional single You Don’t Do It For Me Anymore.

I love it so much. It’s such a raw, emotional song, and Demi’s vocal performance is just amazing. I think this soulful vibe really suits her voice, and she has approached this album in the right way.  

The meaning of the song isn’t what you’d expect. While it can be interpreted as a typical “break up with a guy/girl” power ballad, Demi has admitted that it’s about how her old self isn’t working out for her*. And that’s how I see it as well. Who I was then isn’t who I am now.
