oooh, this one is a huge mishmash of ideas but it's a lot of fun to write!

So its a mutant AU, but mutants aren't just shunned, they're basically illegal, and if its discovered that they're a mutant, they get sent to a work camp, and once a year there's a lottery. If your name comes out, you're put with other mutants in a televised fight to the death.

There are always different rules each year, and this year they are essentially 'tethered' to one of the other mutants - but they don't know who. They have to wear collars that can be turned on to to suppress their powers. If their tether dies, the collar they're wearing activates. So they have to figure out who they're tethered to while still fighting to survive :)

I've got the first two chapters up here!

It's the zombie apocalypse! I've messed with the timelines a bit, because its set in the Walking Dead universe, so the year is 2010, right at the very start of the ZA. Other than that, everything in Squid Game starts the same - Gi-hun joins the games along with Sang-woo etc, and after the first game they vote to leave.

And that's when the apocalypse starts! Everything follows Walking Dead rules, so headshots only, bites kill/turn, and everyone is infected (although they don't know that at the start)

I was thinking about ways we could whump Gi-hun, and I wasn't sure if I'd ever read a fic about him being waterboarded. So I started researching it, reading up on exactly how its done, what it feels like (see FBI? I'm not planning to actually do it - I just wanted a fictional man to suffer!) and while looking up various methods of torture/interrogation, I came across this word - 'Lingchi.'

And hooo boy. It is nasty.

It has been sensationalised in the west, renamed as 'death by a thousand cuts' but basically the condemned would be sliced into, pieces of them removed a bit at a time, until death occured. It was designed to be a slow process (although executioners could be bribed to get the process over with much quicker) and was reserved for specific crimes. Patricide/matricide. Treason.

Rebellion.

Right - that being said, I'm not actually writing a fic where Gi-hun has been condemned to Lingchi. But he has been taken prisoner after the rebellion by a delulu/pathetic In-ho who treats him as if they are lovers while still holding him prisoner. And the fact that his affections aren't being returned is affecting his work. And when his work is affected, all the workers/guards/officers are affected, and the MO has had ENOUGH.

The Officer explains that In-ho's obsession with Gi-hun has become operationally problematic, disrupting the island's functioning and the games themselves. He offers Gi-hun a choice: yield willingly to In-ho's desires, or suffer the conssequences. Gi-hun refuses and the Officer starts talking about Lingchi, giving him an almost academic lecture on it.

As he's talking, he begins an escalation of torture. It starts with cigarette burns and over the course of many days builds up to waterboarding, with each session being punctuated by another lesson on the meaning of lingchi, why it was performed, and how it was designed to restore order.

By the last session - the waterboarding - Gi-hun is broken, and finally turns to In-ho for comfort. In-ho gets his prize, and the MO gets to return to work without having to deal with In-ho being useless.

The man with the calm face lingers in the silence, letting Gi-hun’s plea bleed out into the empty air and die there. He steps closer, shoes clicking menacingly against the tile. When he speaks, his voice is low and steady. “You have more than that.”

Dirt - Dead Light, Green Light

He opened it slowly, as if it might bite. His own name stared back at him in official type—Hwang In-ho. Former police officer, the file read. Bribery. Employment terminated. Debts. Desperation. It hadn’t been a bribe. But it had been close enough for the suits pulling the strings. Close enough to strip away his badge and toss him into the dirt.

The Officer’s words follow him like a shadow. “Even the most resilient men lose count, eventually. The anticipation always collapses into the main event. You will discover, Player 456, that the body outlasts the mind. The only question is how much of the former I’ll have to remove before you are ready to comply.”

He placed his fingers down and started to play. Chopin. Something simple. Something familiar. Something soft enough to ease into the quiet. The notes were hesitant at first, feather-light and unsure. Then his left hand seized. A hot, stabbing cramp lanced through his wrist, locking his fingers into an awkward claw. He hissed through his teeth and pulled back, cradling the joint, breath shallow.

In A Case of You, In-ho was a concert pianist, and after he donated his kidney to Jun-ho the surgery site got infected, causing damage to his lower back, which sends spasms into his extremities.

That whole fic makes me cry 🤣😭

His mind snagged on the memory of In-ho’s words, the ones that had seemed so cutting only minutes ago, and the surge of anger behind them. Now, looking at In-ho in nothing but a pair of socks and his usual impassive expression, Gi-hun couldn’t decide whether to laugh or groan. Instead, he felt the corners of his mouth twitch. He ducked his head, let out a brittle, embarrassing snort, and ended up with his forehead in his own hands, grinning like a fool at the grain of the dinner table.

Hundred (Had to go with hundreds) - Dead Light Green Light

Gi-hun leaned back against the wall, his thoughts churning. Part of him wanted to believe Sang-woo—that this horror was just random, some awful thing they’d stumbled into by accident. That they weren’t cursed. That they weren’t part of something bigger and darker than they’d already survived. But another part of him, the part that had watched hundreds die playing a simple childhood game whispered something different.

Caress (had to go with caresses) - Lingchi (I know you're not so into smut, but this is the only document I have that in at the moment, so feel free to skip this one if you need to <3 )

In-ho holds the plug in place with one hand, his thumb stroking the base in a slow circle. With the the other, he caresses Gi-hun’s thigh, the touch featherlight and reverent. Gi-hun wants to spit on him, wants to thrash or to curse, but he can’t muster anything but a slow, sullen groan.

I have been trying to write this little bitch for a year. Over a year ago I was listening to Joni Mitchell's Blue album (which is one of the best albums ever made, please everyone listen to it, it's one of only maybe three or four albums where every single track is nothing short of perfect) and the track A Case of You made me want to write some really angsty inhun about a break up.

That fic is here, and it's still one of my favourite things I've written even though its one of the least popular (not by current standards, god I'd love to get those kind of numbers now, but when I posted this the fandom was in absolute full force!) and I kept thinking I wanted to do a fic from In-ho's point of view detailing his misery over the Christmas period after the break up, and I knew I wanted to name it River after another track on that album, which is the main inspiration for it. There's a lyric in it - "I'm so hard to handle, and I'm selfish, and I'm sad, now I've gone and lost the best baby that I ever had," and damn, if that isn't a pathetic In-ho pining right there.

I've written maybe half of it, but I'm so stuck on where to take it - I mean, I kinda know because it'll need to match up with the end of A Case of You, but getting there - that's an issue!

Uniform

This one I'll be honest is veeeeeery sketchy at the moment, and is not much more than vibes so this won't take long.

The basic idea of it is that after the divorce, Gi-hun's mum won't take him back in - she says that living at home with his mother won't look good at any custody hearings, so she makes him be a bit more responsible. But he can't afford to live alone so answers an ad for a lodger.

In-ho is a cop who mostly keeps to himself, and... umm...

God here I am trying to fit some semblance of plot into this. Who am I kidding? Gi-hun tries on his uniform, In-ho catches him, and they bang each other about it 😅

Argument 2

So this one I'm actually writing for the visirep event!

Its a follow up to this fic which i wrote after seeing this

Part 1 was from In-ho's point of view, and getting naked was Gi-hun's way of winning an argument.

This one is from Gi-hun's point of view, and In-ho Uno reverses his tactic. How is it fitting into visirep? I 100% believe Gi-hun has adhd. And the part of it I hate the most is suffering from RSD. So I wrote an argument that comes about because of Gi-hun's RSD. Really hope I can get this one finished on time for the event!

oooh, this one I've been really enjoying writing but I have hit a bit of a block. But basically, the premise is that In-ho and Gi-hun are together, but struggling financially, then Gi-hun wins big on the horses. Like - impossibly big. He goes on his birthday with Jung-bae (not telling In-ho, who would be so disappointed in him gambling) and places a super accummulator on a series of horses. If the first one wins, all his winnings go on the second race, and if that wins, all those winnings go on the third race etc. If any of the horses lose, he goes home with nothing. He places a 7 horse accumulator bet, thinking nothing will come of it, it'll just be a bit of fun, but every single one wins. His 20,000 won bet has netted him (you guessed it!) 45.6 billion won.

And of course its a legally binding contract, so the betting shop has to pay up. But that doesn't mean they are happy, and they have connections to the shady underworld. They send a gang round to rob Gi-hun, and force him to transfer the money to an offshore account, but it all goes wrong. Gi-hun is brutalized by the gang, and In-ho, who came home while all this is happening, is shot and left for dead.

But In-ho survives. And he isn't going to let them get away with what he saw them to do to Gi-hun....

I don't have any ideas for a title for this yet, and I'm not sure if it'll be chaptered or a super long oneshot, but we'll see!
