“i thought drunks were supposed to be honest. see it’s the opposite for you.” narcissus let the criticism roll right over him, knowing full well only his thoughts really mattered. “do you not read what you send out? it stated late comers would be denied entry. if there was an opportunity, then i would’ve. there’s no doubt about that. your entrance was enough, and you kept everyone on their toes.”

“No rules, huh? That’s bound to be a disaster, but only in the best way possible.” She winked at the other, letting her fingers trail around the rim of the glass. “Tonight has already gone off without a hitch, so I’d say you all threw a successful evening so far.”

“i think you would get along with zeus and poseidon rather swimmingly,” he chuckled, taking one of his shots easily. “so far. we have barely gotten into the far party.”

It seemed like all of this was going over her head as she only thought of it as nothing more than a joke. But, she liked playing along too. “It’s a nice thought, to think and be that way. It can’t be the worst thing, right? And another drink…please. Are those the rules for this evening? Did you make them Mister Host?”

hermes worked on pouring them a few shots, sliding two over to her first before getting his own. “definitely could be worse things. and no, poseidon was in charge of the fun and zeus is in charge of vibes. meaning there are no rules here.”

“Goddess of pleasure, that seems so surreal. Me? It is exactly who I’d be if that were the case I suppose.” She chuckled sheepishly admitting that her affinity for pleasure usually got the best of her.

the god sighed as the other almost denied her nature. but the gods weren’t too far off of who they used to be. “well i’m glad to see that you’re not completely denying it. shall i get you a drink? one must always have a drink in hand tonight i’m afraid.”

she tilted her head with confusion, but a small smile tugged at her lips anyways. there was something fond & familiar about it, & she found she really didn’t mind that. “hello there. it’s … good to be there. i don’t party often.”

❝ well, i can’t exactly complain about being called the queen, can i ? ❞ the theme was a little odd, but she had decided to embrace it. she imagined she could have some real fun as the queen of the gods, after all. ❝ no, everything seems lovely so far. you all must have quite the party planning skills. ❞ a serious compliment, coming from the master planner herself.

atlas raised their eyebrows slightly when they accidentally overheard the young man — but their expression leaned closer to interested than the mildly concerned for their safety they thought that they should probably be. this whole party was … strange. “what do you mean by that ? “

his head cocked to the side, “no need to tear down my outfit because i look better than you.” narcissus knew he looked good, no matter what anyone else wanted to say about it. “and fight my way in? no no. i couldn’t run the risk of not getting in, or worse looking like trash when i did finally make my way in.”

A brief flash of confusion crossed Charlotte’s face. However, the ever present voice of her mother in the back of her head made her quickly council her expression to the same serene smile. Hermes again referred to her as a god. Charlotte glanced around the party, still wearing the serene smile. It did not appear to be a costume party or one of those murder mystery parties. She decided against asking for more details. It might just be a quirk of his. He did seem eccentric, perhaps this was simply an eccentricity of their host. “Thank you,” she said, taking his arm, “Although I’m afraid you’ll have to point out just about everyone. I’ve only just arrived in Athens.” 

hermes could see the moment of confusion before it went away from her face. “don’t worry, just follow the name on your place card. you got the name aphrodite, correct? i should be remembering correctly as i sent out the invitations personally.” leading her around the room, he slowly pointed out the other guests. “tonight must be very special then. getting to meet the most important people in town.”

“kind of interesting to see how many of them remember you or not.” narcissus hated it for too long though, growing annoyed when he’d went from person to person without them knowing who he was. “that jacket looks better in person than when you picked it out.”

Grabbing herself a glass, she couldn’t help but spot the other down the line at the table, a grin pulling across her lips. “Isn’t this wild! I can’t believe this was all done for us! I feel so special!” Heather, while still not entirely sure what was going on, was at least happy to be there.

hermes head turned to look at hedone. or heather, he scoffed in his head. “oh i’m sure you love it, goddess of pleasure. i am hoping you take full advantage of your evening with us.”

honey offers the young man a warm smile. ❝ you’re one of the hosts, right ? i’m honey. i don’t think i’ve met any of you before. ❞ truthfully, this party feels like a bit of a mystery, and she is looking for more information. but … it looks classy so far, and she’s not opposed to having some fun tonight.

“Of course,” Charlotte replied, grateful that he had introduced himself, “I’ll be sure to see Poseidon and Zeus later.” She wasn’t quite sure if those were there real names or just monikers for the night. Perhaps the names of Greek gods were popular in Greece like saints’ names were back home. “But when I saw y’all, I knew I just had to come over and make sure to say thanks,” she replied. Shaking her head, she added, “I haven’t had a drink yet, can you point me in the direction of the refreshments?” 

“oh i’m sure you’ll see them sooner than later, miss aphrodite.” part of the fun tonight was that he actually got to call the gods what they were. he was tired of playing games and calling them fake names. “you have no reason to thank us, we wanted all the gods to enjoy themselves while we have the time,” hermes chuckled, holding out his arm. “why don’t i escort you? you can point out anyone you don’t recognize and i can tell you who they are.”

Charlotte passed through the front doors of the castle with a kind of childlike wonder that she thought she’d grown out of. Her husband had always promised to take her to Europe, but never followed through. She wondered how she had gone so long letting herself be denied this. She pulled her attention from the castle though and spotted who could only be one of the hosts. Wearing a serene smile that she remembered perfecting during her adolescence, she approached. “Hello, thank you so much for having me. Everything is so beautiful,” she said to him. She wasn’t sure which of the hosts he was, but she knew a host when she saw one. Hopefully, he would introduce himself shortly. If not, she had a few ways of covering up her ignorance. 

hermes sighed as he looked around the room. all the gods gathered in one place... this could either be a great thing or something awful. why he decided to join poseidon and zeus, he didn’t know but at least this might do something. plus he could rub it in nemesis face later that a plan he was part of came to be faster than hers. his eyes caught on to the vision in pink, his smile softening as he recognized the goddess. “hello, hello, yes. it’s a pleasure that you came. i’m hermes, one of the three hosting tonight. feel free to seek the other’s out if you’d like. they’d love to hello too. have you gotten something to drink yet?”
