SAMBUCKY APPRECIATION WEEK | BUCKY BARNES APPRECIATION

bonus:
potentially hot take: itâs not âbeing fakeâ to be polite or even friendly to people you hate and bitch about them behind their back because itâs not worth it to have a public feud with them. thatâs just, like, basic social intelligence
Please look up the definition of gaslighting.
Gaslighting is an ongoing pattern of intentionally lying to somebody to make them question the reliability of their own perception. It is telling someone over and over that they canât trust their eyes, their ears, their memories, to destabilize and control them.
I never even said anything about lying. I said being polite and friendly(which you should be to literally everyone unless they are actively a dick to you first? When an asshole coworker greets you do you say âfuck you Troyâ because saying âgood morningâ would be gaslighting? I sure hope not).
You make it sound like âavoiding dramaâ is somehow sinister or conniving, when in fact itâs just being a mature person. Making it known every time you dislike somebody is a great way to guarantee that you will be surrounded by conflict 24/7 and make everyone around you significantly more miserable.
Also this is a part of social etiquette! You have to be polite to people even of you dislike them because it prevents unnecessary tensions and drama and doesn't rope other people into the feelings you have. Just because you and your coworker don't have a good relationship doesn't mean you get to treat them like an asshole, and especially in front of your co-workers who might have a good relationship with them. If they're openly treating you like an asshole then you can confront them about it but that's honestly better off left to HR in a lot of cases.
It's not lying, it's creating a more comfortable work space. The same goes for other scenarios. You might be in a friend group and a friend of yours brings someone you actively dislike to a group hangout, but your friend is friends with them. Telling them what a bad person you think they are or telling them exactly how much you hate them only makes the tensions between you two worse and makes your shared friend uncomfortable (IE pressuring to choose sides) and the rest of the group upset.
Say you're invited to your friend's birthday party and your friend invites someone you hate. You can complain about all you want later in the privacy of your home or with other friends or family but confronting the person at the party just means drama and anger and it ruins the birthday party for the other person.
Now if it was your party and your friend brings the person you dislike over you have every right to be upset and ask the person politely to leave. After all this is your party, and you likely sent out a specific guest list. But when you're in a space that's like a work environment or at someone else's party or at an outing where you have no control over who brings who, you can't just start drama because that would make everyone uncomfortable.
This, of course, is specific to when people are assholes. If someone's presence makes you angry you can always excuse yourself from the event. But if someone is harassing you, (touching inappropriately or without permission, stands too close, says inappropriate or lewd things etc.) you have the right to speak up about it and get angry. Those kinds of things can and should be vocalized, but if it's just that Sally so and so is annoying and a jerk, and you really don't like the way she eats cornflakes, that's something you don't need to voice aloud and can complain about at home.
replacing curses in sentences with harmless words like heck and then sometimes even censoring heck to âh*ckâ is a good meme but an even better one would be, like, censoring the wrong word in a sentence entirely. example:
go fuck yours*lf
example A
i learned that Steve Martinâs wedding came as a surprise to his guests. The roughly 75 star-studded attendees (including the likes of Tom Hanks, Diane Keaton, Eugene Levy, and Carl Reiner) said that he had invited them to his house just for a âparty.â To their shock, upon their arrival his wedding began (x)

Fun, someone said the words âprior authorizationsâ around me and now Iâm pissed off at 730am on my day off. I go off on this rant all the time. ALL THE TIME.
Oof. This man gets it.
Sometimes I hyperfocus so hard on something, I forget Iâm a person until someone interacts with me. I feel like some wild animal seeing a human being for the first time. Iâm like âoh yeah Iâm supposed to speak and stuffâ
Me: *doing something for hours on end without stopping*
Someone: Hey, are you there? I was just wondering if youâd like to-
Me:
Tom Hardy and Riz Ahmed are reading IGN comments and Riz read the comment that said â Venom vs. Predator vs. Alien â and Tomâs immediate reactions was to say âGANG BANGâ and then make a face of REGRETâ˘
he sure as hell is one of us
I think heâs years ahead of us.

[Video: a construction worker shoveling dirt as children on the other side of the fence yell âYAY!â every time dirt is moved.]
Often I am struck with the child like desire to just dig a hole. Kids love to dig holes.
Kids have a pure admiration for blue collar workers. Garbage truck drivers, construction workers, fire fighters, etc. They appreciate and respect these people more than grown ass adults do.
Cause kids see big trucks and machines and the awesome people that know how to use it. Their mentality is âParents donât let me play in dirt and this guys gets PAID to play in dirtâ
And thatâs a good thing. We need to hold on to that and foster it in kids. That all labor is valuable and that there is no shame in doing it.
This is taught OUT of kids. And thata the problem. Dont destroy or undermine the admiration for the diggers and garbage guys. Cuz they keep us goin! Iâm always grateful to the guys in the garbage truck and the people working behind the orange barrels on the highway.
