Matthew Scene by Scene - A Discovery of Witches Season 2 - Episode 6 Â # 11 - The first dance.
Spoilers if you havenât seen ADOW season 2 episode 6 with minor book spoilers.
Matthew watches while Diana dances with Philippe. Â
Question - WHY does the first dance belong to Philippe?  Is it another of these ancient traditions coz he is the âLordâ?  Â
But anyway Diana asks another more important question that we are all struggling to answer - how the heck do they keep all this a secret from everyone and not affect the timeline?  Particularly how do they keep this from Ysabeau?  Oh and from âPast Matthewâ?  Yes but this is Philippe so itâs sorted.   Itâs a risky strategy coz frankly all it will take is one of those servants to casually ask âPast Matthewâ âHow is your wife?â and the whole game is lost!Â
Matthew is mesmerised by Diana as he circles the scene and he canât wait to cut in. Â
Ysabeau would scarcely believe it. Â Married with Philippeâs blessing.Â
and his insistence - Diana adds.Â
Donât tell him, but youâre a much better dancer.Â
Matthew takes the compliment and rewards Diana with his killer dance moves.  He swirls and dips her so low that I am concerned for Matthew Goodeâs dodgy back.  Luckily Diana is light as a feather so he lifts her upright with one hand with no visible effort at all.  Try it at home - itâs not easy! Â
And the scene ends with a sweet kiss. Â Sigh.Â
The wedding celebration is quite different in the book - thereâs two feasts and a lot of people attended.  Although we missed seeing the boisterous celebrations that were in the book, Iâm more than happy with the TV version.  Itâs intimate and much more believable because there are fewer people for Philippe to intimidate into keeping it a secret. Â
Now - whatâs next?  Oh - thatâŚ.
