Harveylooks up with a start, the pen pinchedbetween his whitefingertips leaving a viciousblack line where it skitters across the arrest record infront of him. Framed in hisoffice doorway, Donna stands with her fists clenched at her sides,her brow furrowed worriedly and her lips pursed tight asshe stares at him as though he ought to know what she’s thinkingwithout needing to be told.

Goddammit, he’s not a fucking magician.

“What?”

Shebreathes out a pitiable sigh, dropping her shoulders and tilting herhead just so, and he grips the pen so tight it’s a wonder itdoesn’t snap in two, or shoot straight out of his hand onto thefloor.

“Harvey,”she repeats softly. Gently. Empathetically.

Themuscles tense in his chest and it’s getting hard to breathe.

“Gohome,” he commands, but she only shakes her head.

“You’renot going to be any good to him like this.”
