Kissing the Sun is not quite what you would expect. You don’t perish instantly, but rather you find yourself filled to the brim with light, a warmth that spreads to the tips of your fingers to the shadows that are your collarbones. Underneath the glow of the Sun, you find your problems ceasing to exist and you find yourself aching for more time to touch her, to look at her, to say something witty to bring out even just half the light she brings out in you with her smile alone. You’ve come to realize that the curves of your hips could hold all your secrets, and the acceptance of them, too.
To be clear, you were not expecting the arrival of the Sun to affect you so. You found her to be beautiful, breathtaking in any situation or time of day. You begin to notice every little detail about her, the way she leans into you when talking and you wonder quietly if she can hear your heart sounding like a thunderstorm. The way she absentmindedly drums her fingers on the steering wheel while you’re both off onto what feels like the Next Big Adventure. The way she laughs after doing or seeing something particularly funny, the corners of her eyes crease and there is an unexpected glow on her skin. When she changes the music and reaches to carefully lace your fingers with hers. When it’s time for her to leave you at your door, the Sun never kisses you just once, but many times as if giving enough to last you through the night without her. You wonder silently if her bed is as cold as yours, but you do not ask.
When the Sun is kissing you, you forget your past, all the violence and anger fading to something more serene and promising. She looks at you like you have centuries of the world’s stories in your eyes and she isn’t afraid to sit and listen, drinking in your voice and expressions to save for later. She looks at you like you’re defined by more than the sorrows of your childhood and the ache it continues to fill you with.
The Sun has the ability to simply look at you and make you feel like you’re Home. She makes you think about 3 a.m. nightmares and how they won’t be as hollowing because she’s there, glowing peacefully right next to you. Whizzing down the road, windows rolled down off to no particular destination.
The Sun, in short has seen your insides, to the curves and slopes of your body to the way your voice explodes like birds taking flight to the sky out of frustration, and has stayed. Absolutely resolute in her actions. You are so in love with her, you could give her every single one of your words and it still might not even come close to fully explaining your thoughts, but that’s okay. She knows. She knows, and she loves you, words or not. She is more than enough, the Sun.
