Obedience: You must begin an obedience to Shivaska at exactly the start of an hour. You must spend this hour bound with chains, manacles, rope, a straitjacket, or some similar restraint. While bound, you must recite prayers to the Chained Maiden and strain against your bindings enough to leave marks on your flesh for the remainder of the day. Benefit: Gain a +4 profane bonus to your CMD.

Shivaska is a demon with curiously lawful aspects to her, having a major love of very specific kinds of order. First and foremost: she’s absolutely obsessed with time, and if you wish to serve her, you’ll have to be, too. She rejects any Obedience that doesn’t start at exactly XX:00:00, requiring a bit of foresight and setup if you wish to perform it correctly. You actually have to be in your bondage getup before the hour starts, and begin your strained praises at exactly the start. Not only is this annoying to do in itself, but consider that in most fantasy settings accurate clocks are a luxury. Your character will either have to have a supernatural sense of time, or they will not only have to get ahold of a proper, working clock or a fancy pocket watch, but protect it and maintain it even during their dangerous dungeon dives to make sure it’s never off, even by a second. A kinder DM may give a 5-or-so minute ‘grace period’ as to when the beginning of an hour is, but Shivaska prefers her worshipers to be punctual.

And this is all without discussing the dangers that inherently come with being restrained for a full hour. What if the party is attacked in the wee hours of dawn? Not only will your Obedience be ruined, but you’ll be at a severe disadvantage unless you have some kind of emergency release latch in your straightjacket (and you honestly shouldn’t, because why risk accidentally bursting your prison during your Obedience and ruining it?). This is also one of the harder Obediences to keep on the down-low if you’re trying to hide from the Good-aligned folk, because the ritual is difficult to keep a secret for multiple reasons. Even wearing concealing clothes to hide the marks, anyone noting the worrying amount of restraints and the obsession with time and clocks is one DC 25 Knowledge (The Planes) check away from realizing what you’re devoting yourself to.

At least the benefit is good. Extra defense against being grappled, tripped, bull rushed, robbed, or whathaveyou is always a good thing, for any member of the party.
